Unfit

Stuff reports:

The children have been placed in Child Youth and Family care and their parents are under investigation.

The children, whose ages ranged from five months to eight years old, were found in the van around 11am on Sunday morning.

SkyCity said their surveillance recordings indicated the children had been locked in the vehicle for about 45 minutes.

A couple returning to their car heard the children crying and notified SkyCity security staff.

Staff found the parents upstairs gambling in the casino.

The family was taken to Auckland central police station.

I’m sorry, but there is just no excuse for that. How can you leave a five month old alone without adults, let alone five kids?

Further to the Beveridge comment it is amazing how many socialists and left wingers from the early 20th century were smart enough to see the need for birth control to prevent a kind of Idiocracy of chavs (eg. John Maynard Keynes, Bertrand Russell, George Bernard Shaw). And feminists like Margaret Sanger :)

But on the other hand why should they be responsible for the wellbeing of children ever again? Its a bloody tough one. Not sure how you can deal with incredibly bad parents like them. Makes me so angry to think ppl do this to their children.

Most socialist intellectuals from that era seemed to appreciate that for their system to work they needed to avoid being overwhelmed with chavs (to put it colloquially). In a former life I had some dealings with Sky Casino. The place is a hotbed of criminal activity and criminal-conspiracy. Things like pick-pocketting on the Casino floor and muggings in the underground car park are not uncommon (especially young asian women alone), but the Casino executives have a policy of “hushing-up” these offences because they don’t want adverse publicity that might suggest the casino is not a fun place to be. Casino security staff are there to protect the Casino’s image, not the customer’s security.

On a related matter, the BNZ bank at the Casino is the only bank in NZ that is open 24 hours a day and is used by criminals for money laundering. The scam artists that prey on elderly confused residents of Epsom and Remuera, offering to trim trees or paint roofs for $5,000 without actually doing any work, usually get a cash cheque from the victim and hot-foot it down to the Sky BNZ so they can cash it immediately.

Addicts, be it to gambling, alcohol or drugs, or sex, are largely incapable of exercising the individual responsibility you so vehemently espouse.

You won’t like hearing this, but society has to intervene to support people in that situation at an early stage. Otherwise society will end up intervening to “support” them in a way much more expensive to taxpayers – JAIL!

I doubt they would be on a benefit as they were there for 45 mins at least. A benefit doesn’t last 5 mins at the casino.

Money laundering is rampant at the casino. Drug Dealers just get friends to buy x dollars in chips then gamble a little bit and cash the rest back in for clean tax free money. If you have a casino receipt you have a nice simple explanation for having alot of money coming in with no job or demonstrable legit income source.

But really, why would National support Sky City in having more pokies and encouraging more gambling just to get a convention centre built. They should have just told Sky City to build the convention centre or lose their casino license…hehehe

But this post is dead serious…

have a look at the quote in the Herald this am (near the front page “news” about damage caused to Keisha Castle-hughes’ rented house) from some dickhead in CYFS…apparently (now there’s a surprise) the family was already under scrutiny from CYFS because of – among other things – violence between the parents..but the good news is:

“We had an agreed plan in place to assist with their parenting skills…we are very dissappointed blah blah blah…”

Earth to CYFS wallah: People like this are not interested in sticking to “parenting plans” you might “put in place” (always consistent with the principles of the treaty and with due regard to the cultural norms of the “clients”)…they will just tell you what you want to hear in order to get out of there as quickly as possible, perferably with some money, but a voucher for something will do….and then they laugh at you all the way across the carpark…

Isnt it interesting how the lefties are quite happy for the state to excercise the most draconian powers in regulating how good people live their lives, but are totally agin any firm action with “parents” like this? The whole “culture” of CYFS has got to change…If there are still any alive, perhaps they could bring back some “Social Welfare” bureaucrats from the 70′s to advise how they handled shit like this when kids were left in booze barn carparks, there being no casinos then…

Why? It is an eminently sensible suggestion to sort out a problem which is not going away. Although you where ambushed & enjoy the honour of being the first person to be nailed to a cross in a TV studio the idea was sound. The only mistake you & a few others with a sensible approach make is baiting the prey with peanuts instead of gold.

If we were to offer say $20K, free of conditions, to any prolific breeders who wish to undergo sterilisation the queue would be seven kilometres long before lunchtime. That same $20K wouldn’t last two years if used to support & monitor a child born in a disfunctional family unit.

No shit David… If isn’t booze, it’s drugs, if isn’t drugs, it’s gambling, if isn’t… and the list continues.

Sadly, sometime in the70′s common sense became even less common, and the ultimate goal for Social Welfare at the time, was to “return the children to their family”. For all we know it could have been a cost cutting exercise.

Maybe we could appeal to the gambling *addiction* and set up a mobile casino? “Roll on up folks, place your ovaries and nut sacks on the table…”

Nasska: I cannot argue with the second last para of your post…that was in essence what got me compared with Hitler, and had shots of the Nuremberg rally leading TV One news as a backdrop to the ACT logo…I dont have reliable figures (Lindsay Mitchell will though) as to what “supporting” a totally dysfunctional “family” like this would cost until the youngest child is out of CYFS jurisdiction (which would probably be 16 years after the menopause of the “mother”) but it will be massive. $20,000 – or $40,000 to have both of them “fixed” – would be a trifling percentage of what will be spent.

But I really almost cry about the human misery of the kids…I can barely imagine the horror of being locked in a hot van with black plastic over the windows while “mum and dad” went God knows where for God knows how long…and the chances are 1000 to 1 that this was the first time it happened….but of course this is all the fault of anyone and everyone BUT the “parents”…

While being a big fan of individual responsibility,we must acknowledge that gambling is a vice. It grips people and they become hopelessly addicted to it. Casinos are the worst in their powers of addiction.

That is why i can’t stand liberalism. It says “look at the poor children” while approving the establishment of casinos which are the most addictive purveyors of the vice of gambling. And so the children get neglected because we allow these casinos to be built which attract many people who can least afford to go into them.
