On a 0 to 5 scale, I scored 1.00 on hostile sexism and 1.18 on benevolent sexism. This is below the average for both men and women!

A lot of my answers were very sensitive to the exact understanding of the question. Every question with an “every” in it was likely to get a strongly disagree. and often men or women could be exchanged and get the same answer (for example Q20 in a relationship both sides should somewhat be willing to sacrifice in order to provide financially for the other)

The joke it that the test is sexist itself as only looks at sexism against woman and ignores sexism against me like longer prison sentences for the same crime.

Just goes to show how sexist we women are. I read the article in the Listner yesterday and I just kept feeling like they are trying too hard to separate me from what I was taught by my mother ( a true feminist) about how I was expected to treat and be treated by my husband.

I took the test yesterday while browsing the website. I forget the exact numbers but as I recall is was about 1.2 and 1.1 for hostile and benevolent sexism, respectively. And yes, PG and Scott1, I didn’t like some of the questions either, but that’s why there was a gradational scale. sadly there was not score for ‘neither’ – I was forced one way or the other. Still, I could put in scores close to the middle when I wanted to do so.

“Men are complete without women.” Easy question for gay guys to answer there.

PS Agree with Ryan Sproull – when answering “men are not complete without a woman” the first thought that came into my mind was my gay men friends – obviously strongly disagree. But then perhaps, as Kiwis; we’re unusually non-sexist compared to other countries. I’d put this down to a general laid-back attitude as well as the #8 wire attitude that we teach to both our sons AND our daughters (i.e. “the you can fix/do/be anything” mantra that we have in NZ which seems to be independent of sex)

I also had a *huge* problem with the survey’s use of the term “feminist”.
I think early feminists (suffragettes as well as the flappers and even 50s and 60s) were certainly onto something and “fought the good fight” as it were … but I think the latter day ones (esp. the 80s, 90s and 00s nutters) are really out there [in a crazy way] and I *certainly* wouldn’t use the word “feminist” for myself, despite believing strongly in equality etc.

My Hostile Sexism score was well under 1 and the benevolent sexism score was just at 1. I couldn’t get the score precisely as hovering doesn’t seem to work on my IPAD. I am quite surprised at some of the high scores that some readers here got. I expect mine are low because I didn’t agree much with the generalised questions.
