Who was it?

July 10th, 2013 at 1:12 pm by David Farrar

has tweeted:

I won’t out my original source Hooton. They’re still leaking despite ‘all being behind’ Shearer.

and also:

I’m not going to get into this, except to say my source is within the caucus.

So if it was MP. The question is, which one. We can’t know for sure, but logically one would expect it to be an MP who:

  1. Was not a supporter of Shearer in the ballot vs Cunliffe
  2. Has been demoted by Shearer since then
  3. Was a supporter of the “man ban”
  4. Has little to lose by leaking as they are likely to retire at the next election, or prior to that

One can’t blame Chris Carter for this one.

If Gower won’t reveal his source, then it is probably MP (media player) Patrick Gower.

Garner made some comment about it being the same as the leaker about the 60 day horizon. When that came out initially I recall it was claimed that the leaker was not one of Camp Cunliffe.

So quite possibly a Shearer supporter deciding enough is enough. (which might help to explain why Shane Jones’ name came up.)

@patrickgowernz you gotta work harder PG…. Your 60 day source has the answer… go see that person ASAP.

PG refers to Patrick Gower, not me!

That implies Garner knows who leaked to Gower and it’s the same source as his.

As journalists cannot reveal sources this source must be advising Garner and Gower that he is their common source.

I don’t accept the word of any of the NZ media on anything. Or anyone in the Labour Party. (both cast from the same progressive cloth)

My guess would be that the said letter of lack of confidence never existed. It was a bluff.

Doesn’t matter. The fact it is still being talked about means the damage to brand Labour rolls on and on and on and on and ……..

Why is it not Shearer himself …
just may be he is as inept at selling himself out, as he is apparently at everything else
but better to appear to be shot down in flames, making you worth something,
than to go on compounding ineptness until the fatal shot is to put everyone out of your misery.

I think the letter probably did exist, another interesting tweet from Garner:

    Duncan Garner ‏@Garner_Live

@grantrobertson1 @patrickgowernz It’s with the GCSB tape you and Shearer had. Destroyed after being outed.

There’s been a few digs back and forth on Twitter on this.

That hints of a letter being circulated, and destroyed when some ratted to Garner?

There needs to be an investigation of this, including access to all Labour MP e-mails and investigation of their contacts with journalists. The country can’t take any risk that a known leaker might be in government after 2014, in case they become another Peter Dunne. Shearer was all in favour of transparency and intrusive investigation in the Dunne case, so I’m guessing he’d support an investigation in this case as well.

Peter – I’m often referred to here as PG, it stands out to me anyway as referring to me on KB, so I was making it clear it wasn’t. Nothing to do with ego.

You’ve misread this DPF. I’d say it’s more likely to be someone who is secure, instead of someone who is retiring. Maybe who has the backing of higher powers, or the assurances of someone who does…
