The NZPA reports that National has established a gay branch. This is well timed with the Civil Unions Bill due to be considered by Parliament soon.
Technically it is not a branch, but a policy advisory group which any group of members and supporters can apply to establish. Unlike Labour, this does not gain special representation rights – it is about participation and policy advocacy.
I just hope they can come up with a shorter name than the very PC equivalent in Labour which is something along the lines of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender etc etc etc.
Incidentially I am also trying to establish a policy advisory group, within National. A prize to the person who can guess what it is. Those who know the answer, can not compete. That means you Megan.
