The Dominion Post reports that a member of National’s Board of Directors (and northern regional chair) is considering standing for the Tamaki nomination.
Scott Simpson has been involved with National since being a Young National in the 1980s (could be 1970s but we will give benefit of the doubt!) and is very popular and respected in the Region.
The race for Tamaki (one of only two National held seats with an incumbent not seeking renomination) is looking to be a great one with so many candidates. I might even pop up for the selection night, once I find out when it is.
Interestingly the NZ Herald has nothing about this development – one has to read the Wellington newspaper to find out what is happeneing in Auckland!
