Rachel Cunliffe is the creative genius behind two very popular TV fan sites. On her blog she has an interesting post on the difference between old and new media, and what fans want.
There is the transcript of a conversation between a TV show producer and a fan-site owner. I suspect it is not an imaginary conversation and should point out Rachel’s two fan-sites are for NZ Idol and Shortland Street.
The arrogance of the TV person is quite simply just awful. I should also point out that while I have not met Rachel, I am reliably informed she is one of those genuinely nice people who just about everyone likes. A smart TV person would be working on strategy to use the fan-sites (which is now quite common in the US) as their most natural allies.
