PM survives air incident

The NZ Herald reports the Prime Minister’s plane made an emergency landing this morning after a mid-air scare.

A door on her chartered aircraft came open during turbulence above the Kapiti coast and the Piper Aztec reportedly lost altitude rapidly after the door flung open and diverted toi Paraparaumu Airport.

Such an incident will he hellishly scary for anyone, and I am glad no-one was harmed.

The diplomatic protection squad officers once again showed their total dedication to duty, by grabbing hold of the open door and trying to close it. They could not manage to shut it, so they held on to it until the emergency landing. This is not something one does without significant risk.
