I thought Winston had actually driven a tough bargain by getting Labour to agree to increase the rate of superannuation form 65% to 66%. But alas the increase is only for three years!
Superannuitants would actually have got more from National’s tax reduction package, and it would have been permanent.
When Tamihere talks about how smart Cullen was in being able to con his coalition partners, this is what he means. Cullen knows a permanent increase in the rate is unsustainable, so he appears to agree to it, but in the fine print it is only for one term.
