Visiting the Left

Some amusing things worth commenting on:

Jordan Carter repeats spin from Michael Cullen about incomes in NZ vs Australia. Dr Brash has said since 1999 the average after tax income in Australia has gone from 20% ahead of NZ to 33%. Jordan and Dr Cullen has responded with GDP growth per capita has gone up faster in NZ as some sort of rebuttal.

Now let’s think about this. In fact Dr Jordan Cullen has not rebutted Dr Brash at all. They have just produced a different statistic. They are saying the income of the country is going up faster than Australia while Dr Brash is saying the after-tax income of families is losing ground to Australia. Now do you see the key difference? Dr Jordan Cullen talks about pre-tax incomes and Dr Brash about after tax incomes, or how much you actually end up with.

So what do you conclude from this? That even when our economy grows faster than Australia’s, the average family ends up with even less money because the stinking greedy Government merely steals even more of it!!!

Now we turn to Tony Milne. Tony quotes his hero Winston Peters. So what does the Rt Hon Winston Milne have to say?

Oh he calls Dr Brash a lame duck leader. Oh the pain. Now let’s compare the records of the two leaders since Dr Brash became an MP.

The Rt Hon Winston Milne took his party from 10% of the vote to 5.7%, losing half his caucus. He also managed to lose a 10,000 majority in his seat and oh yeah also lost an electoral petition.

Dr Brash of course was far less successful than the Rt Hon Winston Milne. He merely became Leader after 18 months as an MP, increased National’s vote by 17% to a 15 year high and double the size of the National Caucus.

In 2002 National has only twice as many MPs as NZ First. Today it has seven times as many. Wow Tony Winston is definitely the person to quote about being a successful leader.
