I am delighted to see in the NZ Herald that Radio New Zealand have gone for a quality journalist over a “big name” and have chosen RNZ Political Editor Kathryn Ryan as the new host of Nine to Noon.
Kathryn has had a fairly meteoric rise becoming RNZ Political Editor after just three years in the gallery. I have always rated her very highly amongst the gallery, for a number of reasons:
1) I couldn’t guess who she supports or votes for, and I could for 80% or so of them.
2) She develops good professional relationships with MPs, but doesn’t get too close to them.
3) She understand both politics and policies, and the role they both play in Parliament.
So I’m looking forward to listening to Radio NZ more often. Oh and of course I am looking forward to Kathryn bring back the politics segment on Mondays with a rep from the right and a rep from the left. Like Linda Clark, Kathryn is more than capable of handling and referring the participants.
