everyone is still emoting like crazy…

(and i know of what i speak…(incurring the wrath of the ‘cultists’..)

i wrote/broadcast an anti-royal 1500 word piece the morning after dianas’ death..
hung around the theme of “bugger”..now the bastards have got a mayrter..and grieving princes..
this will set back the cause of republicanism for at least a generation…

and talk about taking umbrage..!

and heaps of that umbrage came from the supposedly hip/cool/young/rebellious(?) things at bfm..

they are possibly a bit embarrased about it now..but they were definitely caught up in the moment…(hello gemma..!..)

much as what we are seeing now…

with the irwinites..

Ignoring what’s said above.

Regardless of whether Steve would’ve approved or not, I think it’s a bit soon to be cracking jokes & it wasn’t even funny.

Whether I’m being precious or not is up to you, but for some reason I’m still deeply saddened by the passing of the silly bugger.

His enthusiast for life & his positive out look was inspiring & rare.

I’m not having a go David, because above all else I respect your right to post what you want.

I’m very saddened by his death also. There have been a ot of jokes flowing about, and the two I have stuck up I think are more tributes to him, than making light of his death as some of the others are.

I’m from the NT, and the picture of the Adelaide River jumping croc with its caption made me grin, saddened though I am by Steve’s death.

Now that’s astonishing, I actually agree with what philipjohn said ( & I also agree with Jacko).

To elaborate on philipjohns point, one of the reasons why I’m sadden by Steves passing is not only because he was a decent bloke, but because there are so few people to carry on his conservation work.

Sure there are plenty of conservationists, but none in the same vein as Steve.

So yeah.. the picture doesn’t really make sense in that regard. But since when was humour meant to make sense.

Irwin was a great ozzie icon and a hero to kids all over the world, no matter what us adults may have thought of him. He was at the very least, a great conservationist and a genuine bloke. Now, Oz has lost another great icon, Peter Brock. I havent seen it reported in any press yet, but has our government passed on our condolences to Oz, for a (our) fallen cobber(s)?

Phil, you seem to find it contemptible that we are sad over Steve Irwin’s death. You justify this idea when you say (elsewhere):

What you fail to acknowledge (in my opinion) is the very real effect of what happens as humans when we feel a “connection” to another person.

A death of a family member or a friend would undoubtedly affect a person deeper than a death of a child in Africa. Do you hold such a person in contempt? I would suspect not. Why is this understandable? Because of the deep and spiritual connection formed with loved ones, friends, family etc.

So in the case of Steve, we may not have meet him, but we connected. Now the connection is severed, we feel sadness. To hold this effect in contempt, as your posts suggest and to say his death is equal TO, or less significant than some-one else’s death really misses the point.

As a father, my heart goes out to his two children and his wife. I never met Steve, but I too felt a connection with a person that came across as sincere, honest, passionate and so full of life that he was an inspiration to me, albeit in a small way. I think he did a great job, lived well, added to the positive karma in the world.

If we could all manage a bit of that, wouldn’t that be a good thing? Phil, your points are irrelevant and small minded. You have a sharp mind and a good heart. Why waste them?

You don’t debate, you berate. This gets interpreted as a complete lack of respect for another opinion. It closes down a willingness to communicate. If your purpose is to present another view worth considering, then it is wasted effort.

When I do answer, you ignore the point or fail to acknowledge it. Case in point, read my previous comment again and then tell me how you could ask this:

In my opinion, you don’t always deserve the shit you get from people, and many people over-react to some of your comments (myself included) but you’ve always asked for it.

Your skill seems to be in berating. It has consequences. That’s also why there is less demurring over you Phil than would be fair. But we don’t promise to be fair. And we tend to get bigger on demurring when it’s us personally, and less so over the commenters.
