The Venezuela Enabling Act

No Right Turn highlights that the Venezuela National Assembly is about to pass a law allowing President Hugo Chavez to legislate by decree. This is called an Enabling Act, and the most imfamous one was in Germany in 1933.

I think things will get very bad in Venezuela. Chavez is popular because he is so anti Bush. But he uses that popularity to intimidate opponents etc and remove humn rights. The day will come when he does not have Bush bashing to hide between, his citizens will grow disillusioned of him and want a change.

The question is, would he surrender power? I suspect he won’t and he plans to do a Castro and be there forever. So once the public get restless, he will crack down even further on human rights.
