Hustle for Russell

Everyone here will know Russell Brown. Not as many people will know that Russell and his partner Fiona have a son with Asperger’s syndrome.

Conor Roberts blogs over at Public Address how Russell and Fiona have found the perfect person to teach Leo at home, but that costs a five figure sum.

Hence Conor, other friends and Conor’s employer Pead PR have banded together to organise a Hustle for Russell as a way people can help out, but also have a great night’s entertainment.

They’ve got bands, vodka, and an auction on the night. I expect Sonic to bid at least $500 for the morning tea with Helen Clark 🙂

If you would like to attend the Hustle for Russell benefit bash, please email gina@peadpr.co.nz and order your tickets for $75 per person. The event will be held at Blowfish Sushi in Parnell on Monday 19 March from 7.30pm.

It will be great for as many online denizens as possible to attend and help support. Any excess funds, if any, will go towards helping other kids with similar conditions. I went online in July 1996 and Russell’s Hard News post to Usenet were happening even then. And I can’t recall a time he wasn’t in the Listener!

Anyway I can’t be in Auckland to attend myself, but here’s a deal. If two of you are planning to attend anyway and would like to bring along a third, then e-mail me and the first one in will have me pay for the third ticket for them, so my ticket isn’t wasted.

No bidding for the morning tea with Helen Clark on my behalf also. I might forgive you, but she probably wouldn’t 🙂
