Ban sedition

The Law Commission has formally asked Parliament to repeal the sedition laws.

This is more than timely. Not only was Tim Selwyn charged with it, but get this the Police tried to charge a Dunedin bar owner with sedition over his offer of a petrol soaked couch to students. It seems the Police are now using sedition regularly.

There are many other crimes which cover actually incitement to violence etc. We do not need a general speech crime law.

The Government should act on the Law Commission’s recommendation. If they do not, it would be great to have an Opposition MP do a private members bill.
