CTU calls for all political donations to be disclosed

In a fit of hypocrisy the CTU has called for every single donation to a political party to be disclosed. This would mean that every single member of a political party (even those who give $5) would be a matter of public record.

Considering how much effort we put in to having a secret ballot, the thought of outing tens of thousands of people’s party membership and voting preference is a huge privacy breach.

But here’s the hypocrisy. Many unions are formally affiliated to Labour, and donate to Labour. I’ll take the CTU suggestion seriously if they include a requirement for any union affiliated to a political party to also disclose its full membership list and every single source of income for that union.

We see some idea of Wilson’s true agenda when he promotes the idea of banning private donations all together, and to have public funding as the only source for parties. This would allow political parties to ditch all those troublesome members who demand votes on things, and just be captured by, oh goodness, the unions for parties on the left.
