The mid-winter funk

Fran O’Sullivan labels Labour as having a mid-winter funk.  All their 1 July policy achievements have been over shadowed with other news:

  •  parliamentary defeat over plans for a trans-Tasman therapeutics regulatory agency
  • severe criticism of suggestions by Finance Minister Michael Cullen he could suspend monetary policy
  • inquiry into HB District Health Board
  • the action of David Benson-Pope and his office which reuslted in a civil servant losing her job

Later in the article Richard Prebble is quoted as saying “The Greens must know they have a better chance of making a National Cabinet than Labour” while Barry Gustafson says “It’s by no means certain that the Greens would go with National.”

I can’t even see a National/Green coalition.   If Labour is in a position to form a Government, the Greens I am sure will choose them 99 times out of 100.

However it is not impossible that National could negotiate an agreement for the Greens to abstain on supply and confidence, if a Labour led Government is not viable.
