WTF is up with these people? It was a one day story (and to be honest, not one that really resonated ‘outside the Beltway’ as Helen likes to say). In Clark’s position I’d be putting my second-best pair of pumps firmly in the arse of the “former Labour MP and office holder” who just gave it legs for another news cycle. If there’s one sense in which the ‘Muldoonist’ tag is entirely accurate, it must be the absurd over-reaction to every slight, no matter how trivial or even illusory. And reminding people of the toxic sectarian divisions within Labour for most of the 80’s and 90’s can’t be smart either.

[DPF: Of course I am not neutral. Having said that I have in August criticised John Key publicly which got reported by the Herald, praised Winston Peters (also reported by Herald), called the comments of one National MP “stupid and offensive” and this week attacked National’s response to the paid parental leave issue. I am in no way “neutral” but I do follow my own views and my own conscience with my criticisms.]

” We are denying all rumours that Labour minions are thinking of rolling Helen . . . in any way. No, it’s definitely not a possibility. We are concentrating too hard on digging up some dirt of John Key to even entertain the slightest notion of doing anything about Helen taking us down the gurgler like Muldoon did.

Labour is dropping in the polls but her rating is still up there, so without her where the hell would the party actually fall to?

And I mean how deceitful, disloyal, lacking in integrity would such an action as rolling Helen display? No . . . not a possibility. Won’t happen until she is out of the country at least . . . oops . . . No, there is no way Mike is right, and even although Helen has gone livid white and is “appalled” and “disgusted” . . . again. So we are sticking with her . . . I mean would Goff keep Winston as Foreign Bauble? Could we really sort our shit out before the next Election? Can we pass the Steal The Election No.2 Bill to cover up the mess before it happens? Could we handle all these headaches?? No it’s just not happening! . . .

The Government is vowing to continue attacks on National Party leader John Key, saying its own public polling shows the strategy is working.

The decision comes despite the results of polls commissioned by the media that show National has extended its lead in the preferred party stakes, indicating Labour’s attacks have backfired.

Labour polling conducted by UMR Insight, excerpts of which were leaked to The Press, show that while National was ahead by a healthy margin, voters were increasingly critical of Key.

IMHO its time we instituted physometric testing for all those who stand for any public office And no Im not taking the piss Im serious Afterall organisations test even relatively junior potential employees to see what they getting So why dont the citizens have the right to see an independent test as part of the candidates CV.

Leaving aside the grammer debates (which I would lose)

Any political organisation or pressure group worth it’s salt sends out action alerts to members about stories in the news, inviting them to write letters or phone talkback. The National party certainly do, as does greenpeace, the salvation army or Oxfam.

For Mr Farrar to highlight this as some sort of “smear” campiagn shos this is a very slow news day for the “Labour is falling apart” brigade.

PS. I think a guerrilla PR campaign is more than valid from anyone (just to stay on topic) as long as it doesn’t run to astroturfing. ‘cuse me sorry to butt in like this but could I just ever so briefly discuss Labour v Moore.

I think Moore has a great sense of humour, something that HC and the seat warmers haven’t. His pithy column has summed up the current regime in a way that we could all relate to. Like Tamihere’s interview with Wishart it has given the man in the street a fleeting glimpse what the 9th floor is really up to.
Could we now nominate him for the order of NZ, I think there is a vacancy.

I think the campaign is irrelevant. Who cares what Mike Moore says (not me anyway).
I think it is a shame that a lot of people on this blog seem more interested in being nasty to each other or about what politicians look like.
Thank you though to the people who post thoughful, insightful comments – I have enjoyed reading the different viewpoints.
I myself am a bit bewildered by what’s happening in politics at the moment. I honestly do not know who I would vote for if there was an election tomorrow – I am not particularly impressed with any party at the moment.

most of the folks here who would qualify for troll status, or be bagged as labour party staffers seldom if ever respond with poster’s correct names.

you’ve called me Krazy_k, Krazy_Kiwi, krazy, KrazyKiwi and krazyk to name a few. same applies for several others of your leaning. i guess this is fair enough if others mis-represent your name but is looks a bit like a deliberate strategy otherwise.

DPF: Why did you answer sonic but not me? I’ve gotta say though, I thought mocking pomposity with a seriously pompous tone was very funny (super pomo selfreferential etc). I only wanna know if it’s true about National’s $2.1m war chest. Though I’ve since heard it may be even more than that.

[DPF: Sigh – some comments are nor worth answering. Those who make wild allegations go into that category. I have no idea the size of National’s bank account and even if I did I would of course never reveal that. It’s called professional discretion. I would not be surprised if National has a lot of money though as they have are estimated to have five times as many members as Labour, are 14% to 20% ahead in the polls and Labour is offending so many people, it is no surprise if people are willing to donate – that is the whole point of politics – allowing people to campaign to change the Govt they don’t like]

It has been a long time since I have seen such hostility amongst strangers, even on this blog. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Must say : Robinson, continual attacks regardings one’s mother? very poor taste, very unfunny. I pretty much disagree with most of what you write but happy for you to say it….but dissing a posters MUM for fun and a deceased one at that. Kind of sick.

As for the topic…..go for it Labour. The longer Labour keeps it in the news the better. Stupid stupid strategy.

Heck, I’ve passed several with flying colours, which goes to prove what absolute BS they are if the subject knows what answers the tester is looking for. And politicians, being a wily lot, could lie their way through anything.

A Rorschach test might have weeded out Peter Dunne and Winston though. Show them the outline of an LTD or first class jet and when they lept across the table screaming “My precioussss!!” you’d get a fair idea they weren’t cut out for the job.

Judging by the way this thread deteriorated into a squabble, perhaps psychometric testing ought to be instituted by DPF as part of the registration process. Those who fail (Bevan, Robinson, I’m looking at you) could instead be sent to register here where their debate skills would be put to better use 😀
