It doesn’t matter. They could have Cheetah the chimp defending it. The chimp is just window-dressing. So are those other chimps on the Select Committee. It’s done deal. We’ve been sold.

Last nights report was nothing short of a missed opportunity. I was expecting so much more…but I have to say I am not surprised that it was toned down for people with the attention span of a bean sprout.

Excuse my ignorance but can someone please explain to me how DBP can still be on the select committee…don’t they rely on honesty? I really would like an answer to this one.

DPB is on the SC because they could put Coco the Coown on it and it would still have as much validity as a serious consultation. They could put those three ‘See no evil, speak no evil hear no evil’ chimps on it and it would be much the same… (come to think of it…)

The Select Committee is a piece of political eye-candy to promote the illusion that this very serious electoral issue has had the full public consultation it merits.

DPB is a political cock-up meister. AT least the Labour Party know he is out of harm’s way while he’s doing this little task for Helen.

Lasley last night’s report was cutting edge investigative journalism by NZ MSM standards. Don’t be too hard on them!

Some people think they ran it while Helen was out the country because they were frightened to run it while she was in NZ? I think they ran it when she was out of the country so she would have been spared having to look bad in interviews should the media have done their jobs and exposed this rort for what it is. As it is, she needn’t have worried. This was like flailing an elephant with a blade of grass.

It’s a wrap! Well done everybody!

Maori Party MP Hone Harawira, who went walk about in Australia (AWOL originally at the taxpayer’s expense, but later made some restitution) was co-opted onto the select committee along with others. DPB could have been another? They didn’t all go on the jaunt to Australia

Honesty as a benchmark for the privilege of having a seat on the Select Committee doesn’t come into the equation.

My submission pointed out to the members that those that voted for the passage of the Bill through the House, should excuse themselves on the grounds of a conflict of interest, as the intent of the bill was to disadvantage some political parties and stifle the opinions of voters. A criminal intent?

Agreed. So in my submission on the EFB I threw what I considered a pearl before swine viz:

“When the course of justice is perverted once, it means that the course of justice must by its nature, lead to further and further perversion. It is a slippery downhill path that always winds up in complete disorder and political and economic instability. How many examples have we seen of this behaviour in other parts of the world in our life times and historically?

The pattern is always the same. New Zealand has already taken the first big step down the path of chaos and now is undertaking it’s second with the proposed EFB…….”.

Unless he has a medical condition that predisposes himeto crying at the drop of a hat. Then he has my deepest sympathy having a Mental illness is not a great place to be
However if not
Does he cry when he reads monks have been found shot in the head in Burma?
Does he cry when he reads about Dafur?
Does he cry when reads of all the maimed Iraqi women and children?
or is it just in front of a Tv camera when all is at stake is a bill which by all account wil be watered down anyway and in the scheme of things doesn’t matter a toss

robert owen – that sucks. how dare you assume to know the personal circumstances of this man and publicly judge him. perhaps it’s possible that (a) he feels strongly about the need for freedom of speech and (b) his family have endured a regime that denied then that freedom along with other inalienable human rights. would you laugh in the face of a crying holocaust surviver? no. so don’t do it here.

The guy is on the telly crying at the public submissions process of a bill which in the scheme of things means fuck all

and whilst he could have been a holocaust surviver what are the chances ?

However Burt I would like to know whether he was crying because of his
joy at attending a select committee public hearing after his freedoms have been denied from some regime or other

Or whether as I suspect he has got too worked up over something that in the scheme of things, isn’t that important. Iif it is the former I apologise.
If is is the latter tell him to get a life.

Typical leftist tactic – confuse the argument by making an ad hominem attack. The EFB may mean “fuck all” to you (your words, not mine, hence the quotation marks), but it means a lot of things to a lot of people. And when a liberal, quasi-government organisation such as the Human Rights Commission says things like “dramatic assault on fundamental human rights” and “There is a substantial risk that requiring people to apply to the Chief Electoral Officer before publishing their ideas, and file statutory declaration and auditors reports after the election, will have a chilling effect on their willingness to contribute to the political debate.”, it’s not surprising that emotions are running high.

Burt, enjoy your lunch, and thank your friend for being honest! Some of the Select Committee would do well to observe that quality.

I can say with some degree of confidence that the majority of people couldn’t give a monkey’s about the EFB

I personally don’t care whether it is passed or withdrawn
It will not affect my freedoms in anyway at all

And further more If the Electorate get really pissed over the EFB and their non ability to spend over $5grand in an election. Then the Nats will get in ,
repeal it and democracy is the winner

However I can say also with some degree of confidence that most people don’t want their Doctor to cost more
their schools to be sold
and SOE’s to be hocked off

And whilst I don’t think that working a flanker with the EFB is is going to affect the public voting intentions.( and therefore a waste of time)
If it does help with the cheap doctors visits et al by keeping the Thatcherites at bay

gd: Your surmise is correct and you have nailed their reactions. As long as they enjoy their feeling of immunity from prosecution, afforded them by this Police State they are vulnerable.

You have to consider the present live issues that are in the Public Interest -Taito Philip Field – Clint Rickard, Assistant Police Commissioner (Previously Officer in Charge, Commissioner’s Support Group. Has he allegedly prevented and defeated the course of justice as well as breached a few Police Regulations) – and the EFB?
