On TV3

Just had a phone call from TV3 and I am on their sunrise show tomorrow (Thursday) at around 7.10 am to discuss the Electoral Finance Bill.

Why modern first world nations all cherish free speech: We are facing increasing competition from all countries and are in great danger of slipping off the bottom of the OECD. The government has committed weasle words to developing a “knowledge economy” on top of our already leading primary sector to ensure future wealth for the country but has failed to follow this through. In order to develop a modern economy we need policies that attract the best people to all our industries and that ensure that their ideas will be listened to. We need to ensure that we are not just listening to the government yes men. In a modern first world technological economy that we need if we want the goodies of that economy (best health, education, welfare, law and justice) then we need to have free speech to let all voices be heard. all you need to do is look at the most successful nations and this truth is self evident.

DPF: you might want to change that, lest readers think that global warming (which is being blamed for an increasing number of things) has messed up sunrise and sunset 🙂

Sunrise is on in the morning isn’t it? Campbell Live is usually on at the time you indicated. Unless TV3 does pre-takes?

I hope you don’t screw up your cue cards!

I’m still on my only claim!!!!! Ask the media not to interview any party that supports this bill….. yes I know, I go on, but FFS!!! anyone else got a better idea?? doesn’t look like it!!!

Just watched it. Good arguments from both yourself and Rodney Hide. Was surprised there was no one there to defend the government’s point of view. Soon got over that however when the male presenter, whatever his name is, started bleating on about National having plenty of money and the need to level the paying field to compensate.
Talk about vacuous…….

Sorry I’m at work already – no tv. So I missed what I am sure was a bravura performance.

The absence of a Labour spokesperson indicates they are trying the same old game – stay under the radar. the Very Double Standard has ‘toneed’ its rhetoric down, after a couple of days of frenzy and the Herald hhas discussed Cullen’s calls for patience and dismissed them as a ploy.

It will still be legislation by stealth – if we allow it.

I’ve noticed that the knives are out for the Herald on the VDS. They are suggesting that the Hearld is biased to the right. i have suggeste to them that if Labour win next time, that the press will deserve tighter regulation during an election year.

Yes, it is the only logical step after this….

The TV3 promos showed how little they understand the Parliamentary process – they were saying (prior ro your appearance) the “electoral spending bill goes before a select committee today then it will be back in the house for its final reading” – obviously getting confused with the Appropriations blah blah bill which was in the committee stage last night. I was so bored last night I actually watched some of the debate – Judith Tizard is a disgrace, and Mallard was interjecting from the Minister’s seat to the right of the Chairman. One thing the Nats should be pleased with is the emergence of Christopher Finlayson in this process – he looks definite Ministerial material.
