Some Electoral Finance Bill ideas for election year

  1. Get 500 members for a new political party which will campaign solely on the issue of the and hence have a $1 million limit instead of a $60K limit. The Party will seek publicity not seats but if 70 people are willing to stand it means they can raise the issue of the EFB at *every* public candidates meeting in every electorate.
  2. Get 1,000 people to all break the Electoral Finance Bill on the same day by sending each other an e-mail which advocates for or against a party without authorisation. Then have everyone hand themselves into the Police and demand prosecution. Imagine the publicity from 1,000 court cases.
  3. If Government Departments are not exempt from the EFB, then take out a lawsuit against any Government advertising campaign which could be considered an election ad.
  4. Get teams of volunteers will deliver pamphlets on the EFB to every voter in key electorates of minor parties who voted for the EFB such as Ohariu, Tauranga (if he stands) and where-ever Russel Norman stands. Also maybe one or two marginal Labour seats.
  5. Set up a specific section on for videos which break the Electoral Finance Bill, highlighting how the EFB will even regulate You Tube.
  6. Have “watchdogs ” in every electorate to scan in parliamentary publications which would be election ads under the EFB if not for their exemption and publish them on a .

Some of these ideas will depend on the final version of the Bill when passed. The idea is to have fun, and keep the issue alive. If people have constructive ideas of their own, post them in comments.
