Depends, if hes running for president then he was “war hero”. If hes “against it before he was for it” then he was sitting at a table with them while still a serving officer acting without authority.

Hard to say really since he wont release his service record for public view.

Although I have it on good authority that one form number that is on his record indicates an “administrative discharge” which is not the norm. i.e punted.

Kerry’s endorsement is bigger in what it says about the Democratic establishment’s attitude to the ‘outsider’ candidacy of Obama. And it was good positioning for Obama, with the endorsement being made in South Carolina where Kerry opened his campaign – to give him a push there ahead of the state’s primary in a couple of weeks time.

It also grabs the news agenda for him for the day too (after also having Nervada’s Cullinary Workers’ Union endorse him yesterday).

Are you saying Kerries endorsement is a death knell for Obama’s campaign?

Kerry must be suspicious in a lot of eyes, but he’s only 1 endorsement.
The Nevada union endorsement is a huge physcological win for Obama.
He tok it right from under Hillaries nose. There’s no way she can be happy about that. In fact I’ll go as far as saying her NH win has probably been negated.

And she definitely can’t cry any more. It works once and once only.

[DPF: I’m mainly having a windup. I think Kerry was a pitiful weak candidate and see his endorsement as a negative – that’s all]

As Conor says, Kerry’s Democrat establishment credentials are an important boost, offsetting the strong support they currently give to Clinton.

Kerry, for some reason, is also perceived to be a strong voice on national security within the Dems, and he has a good network of fundraising contacts.

Better to have the endorsement than not – but Kerry is not that a big a deal in the scheme of things.

I think the Democrats would habe a better chance at the White House of Obama was running as the Democrat Canidate than Clinton.

Not his views, Craig. At least not in my case. I’m just looking at it from the perspective that – rightly or wrongly – he’s seen as a “flip flopper”, someone who’s less than forthright about his past record on a lot of issues, and – worst of all for Americans – a loser.

I doubt the Liberal Party in Australia would want, say, John Howard cheerleading for Brendan Nelson.

I can’t recall whether Dukakis endorsed someone in the next Presidential election, but I imagine the effect would be about the same.

It’s true that many Dems blame Kerry for not running a good campaign in 04, but the really important endorsements are Al Gore and Ted Kennedy. If those two go to Obama then Clinton’s toast.

So far there seems no indication of their direction, esp from Gore. However Kerry is close to Kennedy which may (possibli?) indicate Kennedy’s.

Certainly not, Rex. But Australia doesn’t elect its executive and legislature separately, and as far as I know no political party selects its candidate for Prime Minister through an American-style primary process.

Remember, in the majority of cases we’re talking about closed primaries where the views of the activist base of the Democratic Party matter. Who knows – Kerry’s endorsement might be a positive to a good chunk of the Dems activist base. Their thought processes, like the peace of God surpasseth human understanding – or at least they surpasseth mine.

Looking at the exit polls for New Hampshire, I’d say Kerry would have appealed much more to Hillary’s base than Obama’s. Kerry is establishment compared to Obama’s base of young, educated and quite well off.

However, it might appeal that Obama has brought a dinosaur on side.. or just another opportunist with little appeal to the Clintons.

Kerry is the answer to the experience factor.

Voters are going to be far more confident seeing an old hand by Obama’s side. The white establishment supporting Obama is going to attract the white vote even more magnetically.

Obama was ripped off, HAND Counts confirm Obama well ahead, yet unusually Diebold (the ones that were used to get Bush into power) machines swung the other way. Even worse Ron Paul Votes had areas with Zero votes. And creating a backlash by the voters who are pissed off why they were left off.

Ether way its confirmed there has been fraud committed and even Kinrich has called for his recount today.

No the media just ignore it like they ignore many other inconvenient things. The issue has been bubbling away since the 2000 Presidentials, and common sense would suggest the authorities would take action to ensure it would be seen to be transparent – paper ballots only and all counted in the open. But no, the same companies, technology and in some cases, officials, remain in place.

There is no public pressure to do anything since unless it’s in the MSM, the ignorant majority remain so and even if the odd story here and there breaks through the self-imposed silence, it becomes, in the public’s ignorance, a strange and unusual “conspiracy theory.”

This of course places a politician or anyone else who raises it in an invidious position, since if they do raise it, they are immediately painted as a nut.

The interesting question is that if there is something in the vote fraud issue, then who is behind it? The candidate? Come on. Some people finding no answer to this question might conclude therefore it couldn’t possibli be true and there is nothing to see here.

Personally I’m quite sanguine since vote fraud, if it exists, is simply one mechanism used, there are many others – control of media coverage is one, noticed how Ron Paul’s exposure has been minimal especially at certain networks?

If you’re interested, here’s a video on how it might be done with a Diebold, if it’s done at all, which it probably isn’t, because that would be just freaking nuts.

If you pause the vid you can compare the first towns totals and it looks like McCain was given Ron Pauls totals, and where the other candidates totals are still the same. This blatant fraud.
