Firefighter dies in action

The SST has the sad news that one of the firefighters caught in a factory explosion in Hamilton has died. He was senior duty officer Derek Lovell.

When I heard about the death, I reflected that it was the first time in at least a decade I could recall a death in the line of duty. And in fact according to the SST it has been 24 years since a fatality in 1984.

Let us just hope Lovell’s colleagues recover. Two of them are in critical condition, and another three seriously injured.
