Criminal Procedures Bill

I was pleased to see that a deal was done resulting in National agreeing to support the Criminal Procedures Bill through the Committee of the Whole stage and 3rd reading. National got two changes:

  1. A full review by the Solicitor General of how changes to depositions proceedings are working after two years
  2. Allowing parties to present oral submissions where an application for an oral evidence order is sought

Saturday’s Herald has op eds from Courts Minister Rick Barker and barrister Anthony Rogers for and against the law change.
