So the fourteen year old that killed Karen Aim had what in his head when he bludgeoned her?

Some notion of Gang Membership? Perhaps?

He had done a quick wee trial on another young girl, and is was so horrible, that his mate threw up.

Then we have the ‘Security Man’ sharing the proceeds of Karen’s handbag, at $20 each. Then he tried to throw the scent off!

Just what is going wrong with the sensibilities of this Generation?

His proud Grand Parents must be devastated.

Something has to be done to criminalise gang membership? Or get the marketing message across that this life is not ‘Cool’

Gang membership is a huge concern, but so is the reluctance by politicians and police too eradicate the vermin.

THIS is the future for NZ Internet users and ISPs.

In a landmark case that could stop pirates in their tracks, leading ISP iiNet has formally defended itself against claims by movie studios that it willingly permitted customers to download movies illegally.

In the Federal Court today, Australia’s third largest ISP – which could face millions in damages – argued the case was “like suing the electricity company for things people do with their electricity”.

iiNet filed its defence yesterday, claiming that the Copyright Act and Safe Harbour provisions introduced with the US free trade agreement stipulated that ISPs were not liable for copyright infringement by customers.

Today, Justice Dennis Cowdroy said the formal hearing would tentatively begin on October 5 and both sides would have two weeks to present evidence and make their case.

Late last year, seven major movie studios and the Seven Network filed suit against iiNet for allegedly allowing its users to download pirated movies and TV shows using BitTorrent.

The landmark case will determine the lengths to which an internet provider must go to prevent illegal downloading on its network.

A loss for the movie industry could leave it no choice but to go after individual downloaders, as has occurred in the US. However, if iiNet loses, all ISPs could be forced to disconnect customers identified by the movie studios as illegal downloaders.

I’m with Brian, not the troll. Aussie are behind Wales (just like in 1987), and Brad Haddin and Ricky Ponting have motivated the Slack Caps into clinical cricketers.

Plus Wales comprehensively beat a NZ team that was determined to play stupidly – brilliant.

What I don’t get is how Clarke can be MOTM when his side lost. There seems to be a disturbing trend in Aussie sport (well if you are an aussie you might be disturbed) toward giving lollies to losers. Lockyer at the RL world cup is another example.

The MOTM award last night flew in the face of Elliot’s composure or even Mill’s consistency.

To all I enjoyed Waitangi day in fine style. I took an MDO from work, and joined kiwi mates in a hangi and a few beers.

It was choice.

Would love to see Nuclear power in NZ.

It is clean, and as long as the Chinese and/or Russians don’t get involved it will be fine.

Right now here in Northern England it is -2’C

So much for Global Warming, and all the money that Al Gore wants to make with his new Sect!!

BBTB – I didn’t see that Clarke got man of the match. Not only did his team not win, he choked and got out on 98. It is simple case of Aussie sports being unable to admit that a better side on the day beat them. And they say NZers have a chip on their shoulders and should ‘grow up’ when the ABs have the odd loss or patch of bad form.

Thanks to Transit and its allies and the RMA et al we appear to have again spent humongous amounts of money for another stuff up. I refer of course to the new toll road. Two long weekends and two long queues, 17KM yesterday and no one was going anywhere.
I saw that Whaleoil was off to take a look and today haven’t been able to log onto his site so presume he has been lost in a tunnel. (now some might say good job, but it won’t be me.)
Anyone else willing to try the road this weekend. Lord only knows what it will be like tomorrow.

Terry and Ann Butler live near by in a very elaborate home which is well secluded from the public and is protected with security gates.
Victims of the troubled finance company are desperate for authorities to step in and freeze funds from asset sales including funds from house sales.

An Investor who contacted EUFA today stated

“All proceeds from sales of any of this family’s assets should be held in a Solicitors Trust account until a full investigation into the money trail is held. These people should be treated like the rest of us by the appropriate authorities and insolvency laws strongly enforced.”.

Apropos the Nuclear Power option raised ealier:

From memory, back in the mid-60’s, (1964?) the old NZED did a survey of the country to determine the best site/s for an atomic power station.

From memory, the best site at the time was on the Kaipara Harbour – specifically on the spit of land that forms the Southern side of the Harbour entrance (South Head).

It was felt that this site offered the best option in terms of location relative to Auckland, (and a consequently shorter transmission line), coolant water from the harbour, and ease of access from Helensville.

Interestingly, it was also the one site found nationally where, if there was an ‘accident’ (!) and radio-active gas DID escape, it would cause the least amount of damage to living beings and infrastructure as the predominantly SW-NW prevailng-wind would carry any emmisions across the North end of the Kaipara harbour and then over the narrow and relatively-uninhabited area of land, between the Eastern shore of the harbour and the Pacific Ocean.(remembering of course that this was before this before Whangarei and the Hibicus Coast et al became an area of intense urbanisation ).

It WAS recognised that the citizens of Maungatoroto, Waipu etc would be casualties if such an event did take place. This consequence was deemed to be unacceptable, and the project was dropped as a result.

IMHO, if the nuclear option ever was revived, the only area which would now be a contendor for such a site would be the Aupori peninsular ‘way up North’ and I doubt that local Maori would be exactly excited about the possibility.

Despite the yells and screams form the environmentalists and nimby’s, Hydro-generation will continue to be the best option for NZ – at least a lake LOOKS nice and doesn’t make nasty whooshing noises (or visually pollute the landscape) as it goes round, and round, and round and . . .
