Astonishing story today in the NZ Herald-

“Ten iwi are to be paid $97 million to replace an unworkable deal that gave them a share of marine areas for fish and shellfish farms. The new deed of settlement, to be signed in Wellington today, brings to a close a messy chapter of legislation that some insiders have described as a “nightmare” to implement.”

So who the hell is signing it and when can they be fired ?

What the hell is this? Another National sop to Pita Sharples and his gang of racists and separatists??

There is no real justificiation to be paying some motley collection of so called “Maori” $91 million. Especially not while the country is in a recession and the government is starved for funds.

There is no real reason to be paying “compensation” for a “deal” that was “unworkable” in the first place.

This whole thing reeks of an utterly incomprehensible level of incompetence, cronyism, irresponsibility and crooked deals.

I reckon it is fraud being committed on the NZ taxpayer.

I reckon the people involved need to be exposed to the light.

Who has engineered this incompetent fraudulent farce, who is signing it off, and who the damn hell in National has got the damn guts to put an end to this disgraceful government dishonesty and abuse of tax payer resources???

Families are hurting in NZ. They deserve better than to have the money that is taken from them used in such a nefarious manner.

Government and politicians in NZ posture as a legitimate entity meanwhile this kind of large scale criminality is occurring and apparently everyone turns a blind eye..!!!!

It is incredible that this is occurring. This combination of political gangsterism, fraud and incompetence has to stop. Where are the Police? Where is the Serious Fraud Office?

This is $91 million for Christ’s sake. While politicians tell us there is no money available for tax cuts.

Who the hell is allowing Pita Sharples to oversee this kind of fraud?

If its John Key then it’s far past the time he did something about it.

This is a staggering monument to the gross high level cultural and ideological corruption that riddles the so called Maori Affairs Dept and New Zealand government.

When is the enquiry, and when are the jail sentences going to be handed out?? Whenever it occurs, it’ll be far too late. This kind of criminal farce should have been stopped, and the people behind it should have been behind bars years ago.

Ummm…the government contracted to do something and they didn’t do it. Think of the money as liquidated damages. You might legitimately seek the head of whomever signed the ORIGINAL unworkable agreement which obliged the crown to go and buy existing farms.

Just because you dont like the counter party you cant just abrogate contracts.

The issue is the rank lack of accountability, and the urgent need to put a stop to it. The issue is the gross misappropriation of $91 million dollars taken from hard working New Zealand families.

Because frankly he’s got it right. The Government agreed to sign up to a poorly considered contract, found it couldn’t deliver, and is now having to buy its way out. If you’re heated up about accountability then take KiwiGreg’s advice and go hunting for the head of whoever negotiated the original contract.

While agreeing with the sentiments you express, the problem is that this is once again a legacy from Dear Leader, Cullen and Co, and it is unlikley to have been capable of being stopped.

JK and Bill English have inherited yet another ‘stuff-up’ from ‘the years of largess’ and as with many contracts etc, stopping it was probably not an option that they could entertain due to the legal processes which inevitably surround such things.

They just have to ‘ride it out’ and budget as best they can.

No wonder Cullen was laughing when he left!!

IMHO, it’s fair to suggest that this and other ‘bequests’ from race-based payouts were quite gleefully left for Bill English to deal with, and it would have been interesting (though of course impossible for normal mortals) to learn exactly how bankrupt we were on 9 November 2008.

I suspect that things were actually much, much worse than we were told.

So much for nine years of fiscal prudence!

And Labour want us to trust them?

I have no problem with being banned or given out demerit points for breaking the explicit rules or implicit rules, some times its worth taking the demerits.

I am still free to judge David for handing them you, and you lot for egging him on, as complete trollops for doing so. Unless of course you and your fellow authoritarians can come up with good (self)justification for making rules about what I am allowed think.

Many years ago when I first joined the infantry and one of the first things we learned was when you get to the bottom og the hole you stop digging. Of course we had a very low number of socialists so their stand doctrine of calling in Harry Stamper to go deep core drilling didn’t really apply.

Who is and is not in government is not the concern of “most kiwis”, we do not elect the government, we elect a house of representatives, and going by the Curia numbers today, the Greens are 3 times more popular than Act. Who is in government is far less relevant when judging the popularity of various parties.

It is a carrot to get you to the supermarket, big deal. This is marketing.
To say supermarkets are responsible for binge drinking and possible violence, rape, car accidents, family breakdowns, heart attacks is fucking rubbish.
The problem is those who drink are not held responsible for what they do.
