New Year’s wish for 2010. That John Key appoints a Minister of Archaeology. This might increase the chance that the buried inquiry into the stolen Brash emails could be rediscovered, excavated, and generally brought to light. Remember Don Brash? Brought low largely because he dared ask for equal treatment for all under the law. Got treated a lot harsher than Harawira.

Kidnap trio seize and rob woman, 82

An 82-year-old woman was kidnapped by three young women and driven around in the back of her own car while her captors robbed her of more than $1500.

Auckland police are hunting for the women, whose faces were filmed by security cameras, and are appealing to the public for any leads.

I hope the photo gets wide circulation so those three have a just Christmas.

Just heard a good comment re: leaky homes on RadioLive.

What the govt should do is provide free legal representation to allow affectees to take developers builders architects etc to court.

Why not? Williamson is merely proposing to underwrite bank loans. That’s crap. Hold those responsible to account.

I think the ACT party should never have gone into Government.

Had they been in a similar position to the 1996 – 99 Parliament (on the crossbenches supporting National) they could have concentrated on building their support, membership and finances for the future whilst pushing their main policies.

Instead because Rodney thought “I have been here for 12 years – time I enjoyed the fruits of office for a while” (and entering into coalition with National was based on nothing more than that) they have had a disastrous time in Government which has seen an abandonment of principles and policies for absolutely no gain whatsoever.

On the ‘crossbenches’ they would be saying “will we have a dozen MPs in 2011 or only 10?”; in government they are saying “will we be lucky enough to get 5 MPs next time?”

On the crossbenches they would be having one ACT policy after another implemented; in Government they have to implement socialism and pretend to have been closet Muldoonists and Maori activists for years

Two opinions at variance with each other but linked.

“What I’m against is the way society has become ever more comfortable with the people at the very bottom, and blinded to their needs,” he said.

“It’s the job of our welfare system, which retailers support with the billions they pay each year in tax, to help vulnerable people,” said spokesman Richard Dodd. “There are no excuses for stealing.”

For some here that is a rational for dealing to lawbreakers, that life in NZ isn’t like other poor places so the lawbreakers should be penalised more harshly because of that.

It isn’t helped with stories of 300 people out of ? who have been living off the state benefit to what some consider the extreme.

State radio announcers and State TV presenters have rushed to change their pronunciation of W(h)anganui to a politically correct ‘fonganui’. Has nobody told them that local Maori regard the ‘wanganui’ pronunciation as correct even if they disputed the spelling?

Trout, murray, you’ve both highlighted the old adage (slightly varied) that ‘you can take the Maori out of the tribe, but you can’t take the tribe out of the Maori’ – the dialectal discrepancy has always been an issue – although no-one in Maoridom wil ever admit to it.

What makes it especially funny and ironic is that I have it on very good authority, that what is taught as ‘NZ Standard Maori pronunciation’ in schools and elsewhere, is actually the dialect of a very small iwi in the far-eastern Bay of Plenty, who apparently had one of their own in a strategic location within the relevant ministry when the need for ‘standardised’ Maori language to be taught in schools was being debated, and managed to get the jump on the ‘big boys’ such as Arawa, Tainui, Tuhoe etc, with the result that his iwi’s dialect became the ‘official’ version of Maori in schools and elsewhere. The elder (from the iwi concerned) thought it was absolutely hilarious and fully appreciated the ‘burr-under-the-saddle’ effect it had had on the other, larger and supposedly more-important tribes as they were compelled to learn the dialect of a hitherto insignificant little group located out in the middle of nowhere. It apparently rankles no-end – even today.

A small point, but, I suspect, a very important one – thought you might like to know.

“what is taught as” I was in an IRD office a wee while ago and there was a poster prominently displayed giving the ‘correct’ pronunciation of for instance Oh Ah Maru etc so someone in Wellington has put out the imprimatur and I imagine if you don’t follow the orthodox version you can probably kiss bonuses, promotions etc goodbye or maybe even get a warning letter for poor performance. Radio NZ and TVNZ weather announcements are really bad for my health.
I thought the new govt might have rolled back the clock but I suppose the deal with the M party as well as more important fish to fry means I’ll have to wait,not holding my breath tho.

I am still shattered over the H .. it’s not over. That S (hit) F (or)B (rains) Mair has won .. my ancestors will be spinning in their graves having their written language ripped from them .. I am still shaking and will hold off any letters to the editors until I have calmed down. This is NOT a case case of spell it how you like, it’s a case of the H is official.

It’s funny, radio and TV used to try and use some poncy artificial pronunciation of English, now it seems like anything goes, but they try to standardise in Maori. Maybe they will grow out of that too.

Speaking of radio….

The female bashing wanker Vietch is back on Radio sport and Newstalk ZB.

“Broadcaster Tony Veitch will return to radio next year.

The former Radio Sport presenter is being hired by one of his former employers, The Radio Network (TRN), in the role of sports-news bulletin presenter and journalist for Newstalk ZB and Radio Sport from early January.

Veitch was suspended and then resigned as Radio Sport breakfast host on July 17, 2008, following a domestic dispute which was dealt with by the court.

Veitch says he is “incredibly grateful” to TRN “for giving me this opportunity to get back to doing what I love and the only career I’ve ever known.”

Veitch says while many things have changed over the past 18 months “my passion for sport remains the same. I’ve missed it desperately and I now look forward to once again utilising my skills as a journalist and a broadcaster.”

TRN says hiring Veitch as a contractor will give him the chance to prove himself again.

General Manager of talk programming Bill Francis says the company did not make the decision to rehire Veitch lightly. He says the opinion of the public and a number of people in the sports world were sought and they all thought Veitch should be back on radio.

In April, Veitch pleaded guilty to a charge of injuring with reckless disregard, his former girlfriend Kristin Dunne-Powell”

Funny that they should announce it at this time of year so it gets everyone’s attention.

He says the opinion of the public and a number of people in the sports world were sought and they all thought Veitch should be back on radio.

Interesting claim that “the public” where part of “all” those who thought he should be back on radio.

I actually have mixed feelings about this, I don’t like what he has done but perhaps he should have a chance to get on with his life and work. Radio is certainly a safer re-introduction than being visible on TV.

Our son is back from the UK so TV3 is on a news time again. Yesterday we had one story on disappearance of a native bird egg, and another on problems with Kakapo mating.. both in the first news slot.

Today it’s baby Kiwi problems and day-in-the-life of a SPCA officer. All very interesting but it’s complete nonsense to call this prime-time news.

Maybe you didn’t like my choice of words, but at least I am up front and honest about my opinions. You, I suspect, follow a religion with adherents who want poofs pushed back in the closet, their proclivities to be made illegal again. A religion that has senior leaders supporting the death penalty for homosexulaity. I have spoken out against this. Have you?

It’s been said before why don’t you get banned by DPF. (it certainly seems that he gives you a big leash.

You post deliberate posts enflaming people of faith which certainly looks like trolling.
The only subject DPF protects are homosexuals (individual not the subject) but you manage to get that in after a leave of absence.

As youwill carry on please don’t anyone else moan about people of faith here going on on this blog anymore.
When we aren’t attacked and villified (or defended) we won’t have to respond and as we don’t deliberately enflame you have no excuse.

You obviously also approve of the death penalty for homosexuals. Why?

I make no secret of my contempt for homosexuals whan they make fools of themselves at the Poofter Parades in Auckland, Sydney, and elsewhere. I refuse to use the word gay to refer to them, much preferring the correct term homosexual, or the more cloquial poof. But I also support their right to indulge in homosexual acts in private and oppose the death penalty simply for being born, or made, homosexual. Why don’t you?

I know why – because the correct spelling of Christian is hypocrite.

I am not going to get sidetracked into a discussion on homosexuality with you.

I cannot understand the venom and vitriol that spews out of you except in the context of serious hurt and degradation.

Have you or someone close to you been sodomised or been sexually abused by a priest and been given the run around by his denomination?
If that is so, I can understand the pain and grief you carry and feel for you and all those who come into contact with you.
I know others who are and have lived with that pain for years, affecting their personal and family lives to a horrible degree (of both genders).

If not, what can I say?
