MikeNZ – we don’t apply the “eye for an eye” doctrine in this country as we realise it does little for offender or victim or society more generally. So you’re wrong when you ask the question – a life is only worth 11.5 years? It is worth much much more. But this is not what a sentence is about.

Mike they seemed pretty angry last night. Can’t say i blame them. What is up with giving someone a reduced sentence for being young? Why aren’t the people who demand the youth get full wage rates for doing an adults job are not demanding an adults sentence for committing an adult crime?

The little prick will be free before he’s in his mid 20’s and have a full life. She’ll still be dead and he killed her. Maybe he would be better being shipped back to SA.

Apprently if you’re going to kill you should do it as young as possible these days.

I know said earlier that NZ will extend its lead in suicide, I was referring to the after effects say three to four months. But the government has a direct hit on the poor and especially the elderly immediately.

The smiling assassin axe man PM is about to take another victim of his reforms. This time an elderly protest against Health Services. No amount of media spin can hide the fact that this is a direct victim of economic reformations.

I dont think flogging is an answer and I’m not in favour of hanging. I think we could design a good automated guillotine system which allowed full recovery of organs, blood etc so that part of the debt to society can be repaid through transplant.

FRANCE DROPS CARBON TAX….

The French government has signalled that it is dropping a plan for a tax on domestic carbon dioxide emissions.
Jean-Francois Cope, parliamentary leader of the governing UMP party, was quoted as saying the tax “would be Europe-wide or not (exist) at all”.

Now, lets apply the NZ governments logic to this situation. Apparently, France will now be seen as a pariah and consumers will no longer buy french products.

I would suggest, French products will sell more than ever. People think about their wallet first. Not how much gas a cow makes.

I believe the price of petrol / electricity etc… is due to increase substantially later this year due to our new carbon tax (is this right? I heard something on the news a while ago).

Sometimes it’s easy to forget how the tenor of politics has changed in 18 months. Tassman has this morning given us a timely reminder. My reasoning: You don’t even eat the skin of the avocado, so presumably, for avocados and other peeled produce, pesticides aren’t a problem.

Right?

Not always.

Some fruits’ and vegetables’ thick skins do protect the edible part from chemicals.

But not all.

The Environmental Working Group recently analyzed samples of 47 common produce items in the state that they’re usually eaten..

.. (i.e., avocados were peeled, apples washed with water, etc.) ..

.. then ranked them according to the amount and variety of pesticides the researchers found.

Good news for my guac addiction: As I suspected, peeled avocadoes contain a small amount of pesticides, ranking 46th on the list.

But bananas come in at a surprisingly high 27, and cucumbers at 19.

“It’s really hard to use your intuition to figure out what’s going to have high pesticide loads,” says EWG spokesperson Amy Rosenthal.

“Skin is something to take into account, but it doesn’t always make a huge difference.”

More findings: Peaches, apples, and sweet bell peppers were the three most pesticide-laden crops tested ..

.. while frozen sweet corn, avocado, and onion were least contaminated.

The EWG team estimates you can lower your pesticide intake by as much as 80 percent if you steer clear of the top 12.

In descending order, the EWG’s 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables:..”

A disabled woman starving herself has the legal right to choose to die, experts say.

Margaret Page, 60, has not eaten for 10 days and has drunk only a small amount of water.

Her husband, separated from her for 12 years, wants her put in hospital and forced to eat. But three psychiatric assessments have found she is lucid and cannot be forcibly treated.

Mrs Page suffered a cerebral haemorrhage 20 years ago and has been living at St John of God, a Wellington care home, since 2006.

She went on hunger strike last October but began eating after seven days.

She cannot speak well but was able to indicate “yes” and “no” to questions from the The Dominion Post yesterday.

Asked if she had deliberately stopped eating again, she nodded. She affirmed that she had made that decision because she no longer wanted to live.

She had been thinking about trying to die for a long time.

It was not hard to make the decision to starve herself. She agreed that her family was upset she was starving herself, but everybody except her estranged husband, Barry Page, supported her decision.

I won’t abuse DPF’s hospitality by posting the whole story from the Dom-Post website, but suffice to say, the is NO mention of John Key in the story, there is NO mention of heath service cuts in the story, and there is NOTHING in the stoy to support your contention that “No amount of media spin can hide the fact that this is a direct victim of economic reformations. ” The woman is sick of living; end of story.

Tassman, you are a liar, a scumbag, and though I would not personally use the terminology that other posters have used to describe you, neither do I disagree with them.

The China Jin Hui Mining Corporation – recently renamed Natural Dairy (NZ) Holdings – says it has agreed to buy the Crafar family farms as well as other assets including farmland, cattle, and milkpowder production plants.

The deal will be paid for in cash and through the issue of convertible bonds, the company said in a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Bloomberg reported Natural Dairy would pay $1.5 billion for Crafar Farms’ farm land, livestock and milk powder production plants in New Zealand.

Crafar Farms, the nation’s biggest family owned group of dairy farms, were placed in receivership last year, after run ins with the law over dirty farming practices.

In this case Tassman has acted a a reprehensible cunt and deserves everything he gets, including 100 demerits. The word is still off limits for most occasions, but quite frankly that is such a despicable and nasty smear he tried to do, he gets to suffer the consequences.

Nice thing about being the blog owner is I get to make the rules. But I do try to be fair. Looking through the suspension history I would say considerably more from the “right” have been suspended than from the left.

but doesn’t it open an interesting question? I firmly believe that this woman should not have to starve herself to death, there has to be a better, more dignified way to go. but what criteria would you need to meet to be allowed to commit suicide.
I recently lost a relative to alzheimer’s & in the end the ‘best’ way was to let her starve to death while feeding her a non-lethal dosage of morphine..well fuck that there was nothing best or dignified about it but again what criteria would you need to meet.
Should you need to be terminally ill & if so maybe the woman mentioned wouldn’t meet that criteria. If we’re going to apply a quality of live scenario does a paraplegic have the right? what about someone who only loses the use of their legs, or their sight, or an 80yr old man who has just lost his wife & is all only in council flat?

I agree. My father was helped out with morphine too, but the last few days were not nice, he told me to piss off because he didn’t want me to see him as he had become, fully dependent and waiting, wishing for it to come quickly.

Sometimes it effectively becomes prolonged cruelty from which no one gains anything.
