Oh yeah, the Syria-Lebanon Complex, the one Iran loves to complicate by funding Hezbollah which has just collapsed the government in Lebanon. How’s this for a Complex solver: Lebanon’s military decisively crushes Hezbo once and for all, just like Jordan did to their bothersome militants some Septembers ago.

As for Iran: Stuxnet has decisively fucked their shit up. Chalk up another concern Israel has cleaned up so Bammy won’t have any more foreign policy issues to make him look even more stupid than he already is.

On the Blair comments linked above… There are two ways to interpret Blair’s comments:

1. As a legal position, claiming a right under rules & conventions of participation in the UN – in which case the AG’s position on UN conventions and international law is highly relevant

2. As a statement that the UK does not abrogate its ultimate sovereign authority to the UN – which means it, as a sovereign nation, ultimately retains the right to determine not to accept a UN veto if it it believes to not do so is contrary to its sovereign interests. In which case the position of the AG is of a very different significance – it seems clear from the reported comments that his advice was based on the legal position with respect to UN rules & conventions, not the ultimate authority of the UK as a sovereign power.

I read the quoted comments in the article as #2 not #1.

What is very evident is that the AG did not support the action that Blair wanted. Did it occur to you that the advice he gave could have been coloured in any way by his personal position? – i.e. looking for reasons why not as opposed to reasons for the affirmative.

In other words, the article is no smoking gun at all.

I am interested to know what you think the US motivations really were

Part one:

You can’t be a superpower competing against China, India and Russia without a strong currency. The USD as the reserve currency is the silent fortress the US has used until recently, to project its power ever since WWII. Back in 2000, the GFC wasn’t visible, not to anyone, and it’s essential you place yourself in that timeframe not in today’s timeframe.

Iraq switched to the Euro to denominate its oil sales in November 2000. While some expressed surprise at the wisdom of the move, two years later in 2003 the move was making sense with an approximate 17% appreciation against the USD. In other words, Iraq was getting 17% more for its oil than the rest of OPEC was. And as you can see from this, the trend would have continued had Iraq not been invaded.

And yes, ACT policies and membership are chock full to the brim of classical Liberalism. Not the modern liberal progressivism as practiced by Liarbore and National in NZ, Labor in AUS and the dickhead Dems in America, but classical Liberalism.
