One afternoon years ago in Victoria Street, Wellington, before TV House was ripped down and replaced with the then new Public Library, I witnessed a Big Red bus hit the corner of Carmen’s Balcony – not the person but the building: the dive next door to the dive that was TV House. It shook the whole edifice, emphasising what safety seminars had told us: that of all the streets in the Wellington CBD, Victoria Street was the greatest earthquake risk, and of all the buildings in Victoria Street, TV House was the most likely to be reduced to rubble [probably They used this line on every group they spoke to, inserting the appropriate street and building name in there to scare shit out of whoever They were lecturing, at the time, on earthquake safety – but I did experience a quake in that building with false-ceiling plaster raining down, so They may have been telling the truth]. Anyhow the bus, apart from a slight crumple in the top left front corner, was unscathed, while Carmen’s veranda was rather severely damaged. After that, what I always hankered to see was one Big Red bus hit another Big Red bus, preferably at the intersection of Mercer Street and Victoria Street, but alas if never came to pass – well, never when I was present.

Now I can only have similar expectations and hopes that Penny Bright’s Pearl Harbour, 9/11 Organising, Pike River Mine Disaster Enginering group – the incestuous collusion between corrupt, fascist,international corporations, banks, global mining companies,and compliant politicians, plus the British Sovereign, all known as the City of London Corporation, might clash with Wayne Madsen’s mob: the Israeli Lobby, who because “of some ancient fairy tales involving some tribes who wandered the deserts of the Middle East and saw and heard non-existent things because of sun stroke, drinking bad water, and smoking local hallucinogenic plants”, as Wayne Madsen says, this Israeli Lobby owns the Congress, media, Hollywood, Wall Street, both [US] political parties, and the White House.

Unless the Israeli Lobby has agreed that … oh, shit! … the City of London Corporation should set up 9/11, and they would all blame the Arabs.

Merde! – I might have to go back to watching buses again, and dreaming.

New Zealand is likely to follow Australia’s lead on requiring tobacco to be sold in plain packaging, Associate Health Minister Tariana Turia says.

Australian health minister Nicola Roxon has drafted legislation requiring tobacco companies to print their brand name in a specific font. If the legislation is passed, cigarette packs would have to be sold in an ugly olive green because research showed this was the least attractive colour for smokers, Ms Roxon has said.

British American Tobacco Australia argued the proposal would infringe international trademark and intellectual property laws and could see ongoing court action.

Mrs Turia said the Government had already announced it would monitor progress on Australia’s proposal to see if it could be done in New Zealand.

“We are very supportive of today’s announcement by Australian health minister Nicola Roxon and it is my expectation that New Zealand will inevitably follow their lead and look to introduce the plain packaging of tobacco products.”

The Government had already committed to making the country smokefree by 2025.

Shane ‘blue movie’ Jones still butt of humour

Will there ever come a time when Shane Jones will lose the pornography tag? If not, it will be a shame because the sight of Jones in full cry is enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

But the tag of Minister of Pornography – after he put blue movies on his ministerial credit card – means it’s virtually impossible for him to heckle anyone, as was demonstrated amid fits of laughter during yesterday’s question time.

The lesson here is that there’s very little comeback if you’ve done something so unforgettable.

Cointreau, dry Vermouth and sweet Vermouth, dash of gin, called Fare Thee Well martini, but it pays to not be going anywhere.

But to another vice and more seriously, and following Manolo –
I would suggest Turia should be even more race orientated!
I challenge her and Hone (who before their split was the champion opposing smoking and I imagine still is) to jointly proclaim a rahui against all tobacco products.

The only reason why they don’t invoke such a restrictive tapu against this proven medical evil against their race, is
• whether anyone amongst Maori still have the authority to make such a call, or
• that few Maori would actually heed tikanga and such a call would confirm this aspect of Maori culture of no more use to their people than quaint accounts for tourism and a means of stopping the likes of road constructions until a compromise is eked out of authorities.

Childish lot but we don’t expect any better and I think Shane Jones is so full of himself I hope he is forever associated with that pathetic image of a sad bloke playing with himself to porn in a hotel room – with all the implications for him as a person, his marriage, his standards, his lack of friends etc etc.
Can there be anything more demeaning and, in the end, destructive of his public persona?
Most of us will never forget and will always think less of him.

Why did Mallard want it repeated? A bit of white-anting?

Rather disturbing news to hear that a bus of civilians was targeted and hit by an anti-tank missile. Exactly what type of missile I have yet to ascertain. But the idea of firing such a lethal and destructive weapon at an unarmoured vehicle marks a level of callousness that is terrifying.

And more callous than “targeted assassinations”, ie murder, by remote control from Israel’s drones?

I think on that on any scale of callousness, Israel would be tops in that part of the world, and that is saying a heck of a lot.

And how many bombs have Israel dropped on a defenceless population in reprisal?

By the way, is Israel seriously looking for the Jewish fanatics that blew up that Jerusalem bus, or are they happy to leave it hanging and blame Palestinians?

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) released the fifth edition of its English-language jihadist magazine “Inspire” on March 30. AQAP publishes this magazine with the stated intent of radicalizing English-speaking Muslims and encouraging them to engage in jihadist militant activity. Since its inception, Inspire magazine has also advocated the concept that jihadists living in the West should conduct attacks there, rather than traveling to places like Pakistan or Yemen, since such travel can bring them to the attention of the authorities before they can conduct attacks, and AQAP views attacking in the West as “striking at the heart of the unbelievers.”

To further promote this concept, each edition of Inspire magazine has a section called “Open Source Jihad,” which is intended to equip aspiring jihadist attackers with the tools they need to conduct attacks without traveling to jihadist training camps. The Open Source Jihad sections in past editions have contained articles such as the pictorial guide with instructions titled “Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom” that appeared in the first edition

A Rahui on smoking is in fact a brilliant idea, it places the dangers of smoking into a cultural context that no amount of scaremongering can achieve and presents the dangers of smoking in an identifiable idiom that Maori can relate to and acknowledge.

Meanwhile, as NE Japan reeled from a massive 7.1 aftershock, three, yes, three, nuclear power stations and multiple reactors had to rely on diesel-fired generators to prevent meltdown.

You can almost guarantee that some degree of meltdown did occur, but we probably won’t hear about that from the tight-lipped Japanese.

As one who has been pretty well liberal on the issue of nuclear power (defined as, “Fine but not in my backyard, thank you”) I guess I’m just happy to be free of the nuclear umbrella, and I’m even more happy that I don’t live in Japan.

The earthquake and tsunami affected six of the 28 oil refineries in Japan and immediately petrol rationing was introduced with a maximum of 20 litres per car (in some instances as low as 5 litres). On 14 March, the government allowed the oil industry to release 3 days’ worth of oil from stockpiles and on 22 March an additional 22 days’ worth of oil was released.”

To head off a health care disaster, the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has developed a plan to combat deadly antibiotic-resistant “super bugs” and is rolling out the multi-pronged plan today, on World Health Day 2011.

Infections are becoming increasingly resistant to existing antibiotics, while the number of new antibiotics being developed has plummeted. IDSA warns that unless sweeping actions are taken now, the future could resemble the days before these miracle drugs were developed. People will die of common infections and many medical interventions we take for granted – surgery, chemotherapy, organ transplantation, and premature infant care – will no longer be possible.

Inspired by the laudatory comments of our host in respect to TV7 and the despair shown by so many that the government was about to close it down, I decided to watch it (for the first time) in prime time last night. First up was a programme named MEDIA. It was presented by an unshaven host named Russell whose appearance was not unlike Lenin. The guests were an odd looking Doctor (not medical) and a well presented Professor. The content was 100% anti government muttering, the content forgettable (and I have) and the impression strongly of what must have occurred between Lenin and his acolytes in a dinghy back room in pre revolution Russia. The next programme was the Farrar favourite ‘Court’. I expected to hear a condemnation of the ludicrous sentence given the cowardly slimeball who attacked a country cop from behind with a machete intending but only just failing to kill him. Said slimeball already having been bailed by another idiot Judge for numerous burglaries and other offences. According to the broadcast media he was not and 18 year old MAN like the victim of the predatory Labour MP, but a teenager aged 18…The presenter was neat and tidy enough, his guests were a Peter CULLEN whose appearance and attitude closely resembled the man of the same name who set out to destroy our economy. The other guest, a lady, dressed I think in the style and manner of the most elevated levels of Auckland Society, rather attractive, though the the short back and sides elegantly gray hairdo on a 35-40 year old didn’t do it for me.
The content was boring, boring, all about how evil employers are and how New Zealand has the worst Labour laws in the world.
Well done to the Minister of Broadcasting for improving the overall standard by closing this one down.
I switched back to a fair and balanced channel.

(Did you know that this Auckland SUPERCity, is proposing a 4.9% rates increase in their ‘Draft Annual Plan’?

So much for the ‘economies of scale’ argument!

Appears the ‘transition’ and ‘integration’ costs of amalgamating 8 Councils may have exceeded the supposed ‘economies of scale’ savings?

Where is the ‘cost-benefit analysis’ that was done beforehand – to check ‘transition’ and ‘integration’ costs vs ‘economies of scale’ savings?

Who checked?

Oh – that’s right.
The Auckland $upercity was never about benefiting the majority of citizens and ratepayers.

It was a corporate raid, by unelected business interests to run the Auckland region ‘like a business, by business FOR business’.

Bigger contracts for bigger contractors.

Replacing thousands of little private ‘piggies in the middle’ with fewer but bigger snouts in a bigger public trough.

No wonder the ‘Supercity’ legislation was railroaded through. In my view, the public majority would never have voted for this!

The (ex?)-corporate raider Prime Minister John Key, in charge of this corporate raid on Auckland (while using Minister of Local government Rodney Hide as the ‘flak catcher’?

This Auckland SUPERCity, is proposing a 4.9% rates increase in their ‘Draft Annual Plan’.

Did you know that submissions on the Auckland Council Draft Annual Plan closed on 1 April 2011?
(No – this is NOT an ‘April fool’s joke).

Did YOU get a copy of ANY publication from the ‘SUPER’ Auckland Council that advised you of this ‘Draft Annual Plan’
– given that there is no longer a ‘City Scene’ to let citizens and ratepayers know what is happening?

I didn’t.

Neither did a number of (former) Auckland City Council residents I asked. )

A few years ago I used to listen to Banksie on radio Pacific of a morning, once or twice a week some nutbar used to call up ranting on about water.

That nutbar I came to know as Penny Bright, I used to think she was hilarious and quite mad, at that time I had no idea that the madness was a result of being a hard left pinko.

Perhaps if you shortened them so that we at least know what you are saying (an abstract perhaps?) it might improve your possible ‘fan-base’. Unfortunately, at the moment . . .

Do you agree with Auckland Council ‘books’ NOT being open?

Do you agree that the public should not know:

The names of the contractors/consultants?
The scope, term and value of these contracts?

Do you agree that there should not be a ‘Register of Interests’ for all Council staff responsible for property and procurement?

Are you quite happy with this lack of ‘open, transparent and democratically accountable’ local government?

Are you not concerned that there may have been arguably corrupt ‘conflicts of interest’ in the awarding of these contracts?

WHO IS CHECKING?

Are you not aware that the root cause of most ‘grand’ corruption is privatised contracts?
How is it decided who gets these contracts?

Are you not aware that there has never been any cost-benefit analysis which proves that private provision of services that were once provided ‘in-house’ by Council staff, is actually more ‘cost-effective’ for the majority of residents and ratepayers?

Do your own ‘cost-benefit’ analysis!

Over the last 20 years – have YOUR rates gone up or down?

Empty toothless goldfish ‘burps’, in my view, hardly qualify as ‘debate’ .

This may come as a shock to you ‘Bobbie black’ – but I have absolutely NO control over the responses to my posts, or the effect my posts have upon those who read them.

Yes – as a 56 year old woman, I do find some of the male responses to be rather extraordinary.

However, having spent 16 years of my life in a totally ‘male-dominated’ field ( I am actually a Tradesperson with Advance Trade in Sheetmetal Engineering; was NZ’s first CBIP ticketed woman welding inspector; and for 9 years a Welding Tutor at MIT ) – I am used to dealing with BOYS.

I will TAKE NO SHIT, and will defend myself (as you may have noticed).

However, your comment – ‘Penny seems to REALLY like attention, especially male’ – isn’t quite accurate.

What I would actually prefer, is considered, intelligent, robust debate on the issues which I am raising on ‘GENERAL DEBATE’, which, as I understand, I am perfectly entitled to do on Kiwiblog.

You’re not a female seeking male attention, by any chance, are you ‘Bobbie black’?

If so – all I can suggest is that you too – give your intelligent, hard-hitting opinions, (backed with facts and evidence, of course:), from a point of view that appears to diametrically opposed to most who post on Kiwiblog – couple it with evidence that you are prepared to take matters to the point of arrest on matters of principle, and see how you get on.

(It seems that the use of Police handcuffs has a slightly peculiar effect on some boyz? 🙂

All seems rather odd to me – but I’m more used to dealing with more ordinary people, with character, good hearts and lots of ‘commonsense’.

I will continue to post my considered opinions on whatever issues I choose – (as, no doubt, will you 🙂

This morning’s $500 million taxpayer bailout of AMI comes amid revelations that the bill for failed South Canterbury Finance has jumped $300m, from $900m to $1.2 billion.

It also comes hard on the heels of the collapse of another South Island insurer, Western Pacific, a Queenstown-based company with an estimated $30m exposure to the two Christchurch earthquakes.

Taxpayers were forced to pick up the tab for South Canterbury after it collapsed into receivership in August last year.

Investors were repaid $1.77b under the government’s retail deposit guarantee scheme – a protection put in place by then Prime Minister Helen Clark two months before the 2008 general election, as the global financial crisis began to bite.

The scheme, designed to protect mum-and-dad investors in finance companies, ended in October last year. During its two years of operation, investors in nine companies were bailed out by taxpayers.

South Canterbury was by far the biggest, though taxpayers have also footed the bill for Allied Nationwide (about $130m) and Equitable Mortgage ($188m).

Other smaller finance companies to be bailed out were Mascot, Strata, Vision Securities, Rockford, Viaduct Capital and Mutual Finance.

Before that, the last big taxpayer bailouts were Air New Zealand ($885m in January 2002) and a $1b bailout of the BNZ in the early 1990s.

The original deposit guarantee scheme had $133b under guarantee. An extended version of the scheme was put in place in October and will run to the end of this year.

Only three companies have cover: PGG Wrightson Finance, Fisher & Paykel Finance and the Wairarapa Building Society. ”

Interesting.

In a spectacular reversal, this past Friday Judge Richard Goldstone published an op-ed in the Washington Post which reverses the key charge against Israel in the report about the Gaza War which bears his name. He no longer believes the blood libel put forth in his document, that Israel deliberately targeted Gaza civilians in the war, and he now believes Hamas was the war criminal.

“We know a lot more today about what happened in the Gaza war of 2008-09 than we did when I chaired the fact-finding mission appointed by the U.N. Human Rights Council that produced what has come to be known as the Goldstone Report. If I had known then what I know now, the Goldstone Report would have been a different document.

The New York Times, who have published pieces before by Goldstone that were critical of Israel, refused to print his retraction letter. I guess if something doesn’t fit your political agenda, you just ignore it ey? Goldstone had to get his letter printed in The Washington Post instead.

A kick-ass day in the life of a sort of alcoholic writer in Munich.

Wake up, feeling like shit, but remembering the successful patch-up with my gf. The sun is hell on my back but she had not caught me the whole night dropping a full bottle of Schnapps before and while she slept incidently posting on kiwiblog.

It’s BBC on the internet news while she does her farm stealing and I am a little paranoid about my breath, though Schnapps is pretty odourless my instinct tells me to get up and I fix myself a long tomato juice with ice and pepper and while I do it I scull a can of redbull.

“Why do you drink tomato juice today?” she asks as I predicted. I usually drink coffee.

“It’s so hot and I just felt like it.”

It works.

The Redbull wakes me up and I suddenly want to go out.

She takes the usual annoying but inevitable thirty minutes overtime female get ready time and then we are off.

We run to catch the 1.35 minute train. Trains here run on time like most things in Munich.

We go to Odeonplatz and walk around the English gardens, noting the naked gay areas until we find the river surfing area. The water is too low and it looks dangerous but I make a vow to come back in winter and knock off the bitch with multiple cutbacks and re-entrys.

We grab a snack then head to the strong beer festival.

A German friend of mine had recommended it and hey, any excuse to drink in the daytime I had already convinced my Chinese gf.

I had been told the beer was strong and girls liked it as it was sweet.

When we arrived all I was pleased about was the available tables, unlike the Octoberfest which was over-crowded. Plus the warm sun and the trees exploding in the week of spring overhead as with all plants in Munich.

I warned my gf about the strong beer but being a dong-bei she ignored my words and pretty soon we found ourselves sipping at the end of one liter ceramic jug. It is black beer.

I was more stoned than drunk my legs feeling tingly and I really wondered whether they put magic mushrooms in their shit just like I suspected of Kenny Cramps strong cider in Kent.

My gf was off her face, stoned and drunk and I immediately bought her food, German sausage and potato.

Chinese do not have the genes to break down the alcohol.

After one and a half I felt pretty horny and realized the German girls in their traditional ding-dongs were putting their tits out there with no bras.

After I finished two, I knew I was drunk. I would have attempted three but I knew I had to get my gf home by then, very vocal and giggly.

The sun lost it’s warmth as we left and I helped my gf to the train station.

But I knew I would be back.

Wow what a drinking experience.

The Octoberfest sucked for me.

But this was my drinking Heaven.

It was no wonder only certain German friends recommended this.

At home we were both incredibly horny. As I said more like a drug experience than a drink. We did it like on the discovery channel.

My gf flies out tomorrow morning.

Wish me luck for tomorrow night.

Seems that he has been making up for lost time!

Nearly 1500 VERIFIED architects and structural engineers for 9/11 TRUTH are hardly ‘nutters’ – I would have thought.

Mind you, as a qualified Sheetmetal Engineer, with Advanced Trade, and a former welding tutor, who has taught students to mild steel with an oxy-acetylene torch – what would I know?

errr….. like the melting point of steel – 1550C is somewhat less than the heat generated by burning airplane fuel – 990C?

Well – considerably less – actually…….. 🙂

errr……… ‘softened’ steel might distort or buckle – but cause a building to collapse upon itself where the resistance is arguably the greatest, in a matter of seconds?

Ever tried being in a workshop and ‘had a go’ cutting steel with an ox-acetylene gas torch?

First you have to ‘pre-heat’ the steel to ignition temperature – ‘cherry red’.

Because steel is a good conductor of heat – this normally takes a while (depending on the thickness of the steel plate which you are cutting).

So – have you, oh engineering ‘mastermind’ – ‘Put it (my brain) away’ – considered the ‘heat sink’ effect of the steel girders at the centre of the Twin Towers?

No – thought not.

Also – if you watch again (a little more carefully than you appear to have done to date) – the clouds of pulverised dust were apparently billowing from the Twin Towers BEFORE they collapsed and hit the ground?

Oh how sad – another ‘wilfully blind’ toothless goldfish?

Oh for god’s sake penny-not-too-bright, as has been repeated countless times to the loons, the melting point of steel is 1550C, but it starts to soften 425°C and loses about half of its strength at 650°C. Somewhat of a problem if that steel is holding up hundreds of millions of kg of building.

As seen in this revealing photo, the Twin Towers’ destruction exhibited all of the characteristics of destruction by explosives:

1. Destruction proceeds through the path of greatest resistance at nearly free-fall acceleration

2. Improbable symmetry of debris distribution

3. Extremely rapid onset of destruction

4. Over 100 first responders reported explosions and flashes

5. Multi-ton steel sections ejected laterally

6. Mid-air pulverization of 90,000 tons of concrete & metal decking

7. Massive volume of expanding pyroclastic-like clouds

8. 1200-foot-diameter debris field: no “pancaked” floors found

9. Isolated explosive ejections 20–40 stories below demolition front

10. Total building destruction: dismemberment of steel frame

11. Several tons of molten metal found under all 3 high-rises

12. Evidence of thermite incendiaries found by FEMA in steel samples

13. Evidence of explosives found in dust samples

And exhibited none of the characteristics of destruction by fire:

1. Slow onset with large visible deformations

2. Asymmetrical collapse which follows the path of least resistance (laws of conservation of momentum would cause a falling, intact, from the point of plane impact, to the side most damaged by the fires)

3. Evidence of fire temperatures capable of softening steel

4. High-rise buildings with much larger, hotter, and longer-lasting fires have never collapsed.

WTC Building #7, a 47-story high-rise not hit by an airplane, exhibited all the characteristics of classic controlled demolition with explosives:

1. Rapid onset of collapse

2. Sounds of explosions at ground floor – a second before the building’s destruction

3. Symmetrical “structural failure” – through the path of greatest resistance – at free-fall acceleration

4. Imploded, collapsing completely, and landed in its own footprint

5. Massive volume of expanding pyroclastic dust clouds

6. Expert corroboration from the top European controlled demolition professional

7. Foreknowledge of “collapse” by media, NYPD, FDNY

In the the aftermath of WTC7’s destruction, strong evidence of demolition using incendary devices was discovered:

8. FEMA finds rapid oxidation and intergranular melting on structural steel samples

9. Several tons of molten metal reported by numerous highly qualified witnesses

10. Chemical signature of the incendiary thermite found in solidified molten metal, and dust samples

WTC7 exhibited none of the characteristics of destruction by fire:

For fuck’s sake penny-not-too-bright, you just don’t get it do you? A piece of steel supporting 300,000,000 kg of building is not comparable to cutting a piece with a gas axe in a workshop. The steel supporting that weight only has to soften a little and it’s all over. This happens well below the temperature of burning kerosene. You do not have to cut right through it, it will just bend and break from the weight.
As to the heatsink effect ( which makes it hard for your workshop piece to reach 1500C) , where exactly is the heat going to go to if an entire floor is filled with fire, and several floors above and below it?

Try this experiment. Set fire to your workshop with thousands of litres of kerosene. See if the heatsink effect prevents the your piece of steel from reaching 500 degrees…

Name calling is the practice of using abusive descriptions of others. It’s considered immature in adults, and generally useless as a conversational technique. It’s actually a range of insults, normally of a very low standard of abuse. There are exceptions to this type of usage, however, where the names are humorous and not malicious.

Name-calling, typically used by children is the act of applying a negative term or label to describe a person or their actions. Children will often use words such as ”stupid”, ”baby”, ”ugly” or other when speaking to their siblings or friends. Parents can also sometimes get caught up in using similar words when trying to diffuse these situations. These negative labels such as ”childish”, ”selfish”, ”mean” or ”lazy” often work their way into their vocabulary when trying to discipline a child. Some examples could be:

•You are being so childish!
•Why are you being so mean to your sister!
•That was very selfish and rude.
Regardless of the wording, the label of ”childish” or ”mean” will affect the child greatly. These labels will have a negative effect on the child”s feelings and would be seen as an insult (or name calling).

How to Stop Name-Calling

The best and easiest way to stop Name-calling is to be a model to your children. This means that as a parent, you must never use negative labels when disciplining your child. Now as a parent, you may ask how will you correct your child without using a negative label? A simple trick to remember is this: If you find yourself wanting to use a negative label to describe your child”s behavior such as ”rude”, replace this label with a word that means the opposite, such as ”polite”. Instead of saying ”You are being rude”, you can say instead, ”You need to be polite when talking to your sister.” Using the desired label instead of the negative one not only describes the behavior you expect to see from your child, but also provides an example of how you want them to talk to each other. This method helps teach them the goals you want them to learn and your children will turn out to be the smart, polite, helpful and honest individual that you hope they grow up to be. Children must HEAR these words consistently in order for them to become ingrained into their minds. If all they hear are words like ”lazy”, ”selfish”, or ”stupid this is all they will believe they are capable of.

Well – for the public record – as a qualified Tradesperson with Advance Trade in Sheetmetal Engineering – who DOES know some basic FACTS about metal, I am TOTALLY on the side of the nearly 1500 VERIFIED expert architects and structural engineers for 9/11 TRUTH, who are ‘demanding of Congress a truly independent investigation’.

Oh jesus I just about sprayed my coffee on the monitor. Penny not-at-all-Bright knows welding so that qualifies her to talk about the engineering details of skyscrapers and how they react to a catastrophic impact and fire. You can’t make this shit up!

I can change a tyre, I think that should qualify me to be an authority on roading infrastructure. Not judically recognised though.
