Shrek

I was amused that the TV news last night seem to spend more time on the death of Shrek, than they did on profiling the new knights and dames.

Why amused – Shrek did more for the economy that half of those listed (precious international news footage). Ditch those who were paid to do their job (sometimes rather badly) – then scored a gong and I might have some sympathy. Howard Broad – joke. Failed candidate for Auckland City – even worse

Apparently there is going to be a memorial service at the Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo. What are the odds Helen Clark will attend, given that a photo opportunity with Shrek was of higher priority than meeting 15,000-plus Maori protesting at her government’s Foreshore and Seabed Bill?

Why amusement?
TV “news” on both channels is little more than infotainment or PR releases from govt departments ,political parties and large corporations selling whatever message they have to an increasingly imbecilified public ,referred contemptuously to as either punters customers or clients.

Long gone are the days of an interested,engaged citizenship.

Actually, DPF….
If one puts aside the gongs for the job etc (inc pro sportsmen and women) the coverage was about right.
Flipper’s rule #1:
No gongs for paid employment.
ongs only for charity, specific acts of bravery, or other identified individual achievements etc.
No “Gongs on behalf of….”

I was waiting for Shreks minders to start blubbering, and I swear, if they had have done so the nearest blunt object would have been thrown at the TV.

Thankfully it wasn’t necessary, but I get the feeling it was pretty damned close.

And it must have smelt terrible! like one giant sh!t infested dreadlock!
Actually, it would have been quite entertaining watching them cremate it!! 😀

Sorry to be a Grinch here, but I suspect this death announcement is probably a few years after the fact….a bit like the old Soviet Union when ” Mr Breshnev has a heavy cold” meant ” he’s at deaths door”, and “suffering from pneumonia” meant “he died three weeks ago, but we had to have some internal struggles for succession before we could announce it”….

Some farmer or vet might like to opine on the likelihood of a sheep reaching 17 years….

Seventeen years would be an exceptional age for a sheep. Usually their teeth are stuffed well before half that age & if they are not knocked off for sausages or dog tucker they starve slowly to death. Having said that my parents lived down the road from a mad woman who owned a ewe she swore was over fifteen years old. Looked & smelt half dead, a bit like her.

The life expectancy of sheep is similar to large breeds of dogs, about 10 to 12 years. Some breeds are known for being longer-lived, e.g. Merino. According to the Guiness Book of World Records, the oldest sheep lived to be 23. She was a Merino.

Shrek achieved a lot DPF or rather his owners and their community did. I rather suspect he in many ways was a very important animal in the NZ economy. I hope he gets a statue, he deserves it.

@ David Garrett, I have avoided getting into a fight with you largely because I feel you have paid your price and it was a very high price but really look at your own Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Garrett_(politician) and don’t fucking talk to me about a couple of great Kiwis in Central Otago doing great stuff for thier community.
