Labour Department question: wtf is going on here?

– Today’s Dominion Post carries a pic of Tekapo Church of the Good Shepherd defaced by a handrail installed at Labour Dept insistence – apparently only a fraction of the methods they are trying to force the churct to take. Lots of good input and followup from the Labour Dept – maybe someone sprained their ankle and they leapt into action to protect tourists from themselves.

– Also in today’s Dom Post in the Pike River report – currently only ONE mines inspector for the entire country, down from the usual grand total of two. 29 dead, but hey, the attitude seems to be, working class boys from the coast, who gives a shit?

A spot of re-prioritizing seems to be in order.

Offender in a stolen car dies after a police pursuit is called off, crashes in to another car. Fortunately the occupant of the other car was shaken but unhurt. This is a few days after the Police STG save a womans life by shooting the man holding her hostage with a firearm.

So, what happens? The usual wailing and gnashing of teeth from those who think they know better. Especially in regard to the shooting death.

I know a member of the STG, who has been involved in a couple of high profile actions. And let me tell you, the shooting of a suspect is the action of last resort. The final decision on whether to shoot or not is invariably predicated on the actions of the suspect. The suspect is offered many opportunities to surrender, to end the incident without bloodshed.

And it is the police officer who has to live with the consequences of the actions of the suspect if it all goes wrong!

Makes you wonder who is clipping the ticket on this? Why an IPAD specifically? There are many better / lower cost alternatives for tablet devices. In any case they’ll be redundant in 2 years and need upgrading. Either that or they’ll be stolen, broken or just buggered.

I found an exercise book and pen worked well enough voice. Da Vinci had a notebook and charcoal which didn;t seem to slow him down as well.

This is absolute crap on the part of the school…I am a so called “high earner”, and I would have trouble coming up with 900 notes for this….I would if I had to, but the poor bastards on 40,000 a year just won’t be able to.

The kids need to keep up with technology, but this is absurd…

I had a cheap netbook with (allegedly) 9 hours life.

It was crap.

I won’t buy iPad because it appears to be damned near unless unless you invest a fortune in “extras” to make it work to potential.

Purchased a Toshiba R6 Protoge G3 that claims 8 hours and gives about five.

I suspect Orewa School are not being overly honest about the reason for the iPad.

It’s kind of irrelevant to mention race when discussing an individual crim. At that level, it’s all about what has fucked up in his life, or how he has fucked up. Race, gender, etc become relevant when we talk about larger groups, as in ‘why are half of the prison inmates Maori, or why is the female rate of offending rising faster than overall rates?’ That’s when we could have a useful discussion.

When comments are to the effect of ‘another Maori crook’ or ‘another white man in jail for fraud’, we don’t really advance any argument at all. GoH was maybe being ironic when he made that comment.

If you took some time to talk to people in the far north – as I did about two weeks before my political career flamed out – I think you would be shocked at the level of intimidation over beaches and other parts of the foreshore. And that was BEFORE the Takutai Moana Bill was passed.

People being told to “F…off, this is a Maori beach”; people being asked to pay “levies” for using “our” beach (now made perfectly legal under the new Act); in one case a wedding party being asked to pay a fee to use a picturesque bay as a backdrop to wedding photos.

I wager the first time something similar happens to you you might suddenly find its not only “Rand fanboys” who are alarmed at what is happening under the guise of “fair treatement for Maori”

The real economy is struggling to keep head above water. Traditionally inflation is caused by too much money chasing too few goods and services. Nothing could be further from the truth right now, ask the majority of retailers and tradesmen.

Inflation (which will get worse before it gets better) at the moment is being caused by speculation in world markets driving up commodity prices. This is a direct result of countries printing money to try and stimulate their economies. It has done nothing of the sort, instead the majority of this money flowed into the markets which rose for a couple of years giving an illusion of moving out of recession. Bollocks. There has been no real growth, only illusion, smoke and mirrors econmystic bullshit statistics.

Strangling the economy further by increasing interest rates will be madness. What say you Mr Bollard?

I dont believe rates will go up here in NZ Kaya…I think common sense will prevail..part of the 5% inflation figure consisted of the gst increase..real inflation was something like 3.3% just outside the band. Kiwis aren’t spending outrageously..they dont have any spare $$$ .

I finally caught up with his brief appearance on Q+A, Sunday.

There, he took the opportunity to deny that he is a climate change denier. He doesn’t accept that man-made factors have caused climate change to the extent that we need to do anything about it.

Methinks he doth protest too much.

Here’s the thing: Don says he accepts the climate has always changed in the past, and on that basis he is not a climate change denier.

But how does he know climate has always changed in the past?

I’ll tell you: it’s through the work of scientists in various disciplines – physics, geology, paleontology, botany, meteorology, etc etc

And it’s all coming together to show us how we are bringing the planet to the brink, as far as human civilisation (in the sense of community living, as opposed to the RWNJ racist notion of white superiority) and perhaps 50% of extant species is concerned.

Oh, that’s right, he also denies the work of scientists who document the harm farming does to our natural environment, including waterways.

And he is a farmer.

Do we sense a pattern here?

Only accept the science when it is not inconvenient to one’s own pecuniary interests?

I wonder if he accepts the science of mechanics that powers the planes he rides in on his trips?

Arrived back in the cold rainy small Maori infested isles as I do once a year.

Cashed in 200 Euros for 312 Maori dollars…shit is that right!?

Next day a trip to the supermarket…HOLY SHIT!!!

A medium grocery trip in Germany is 40 Euros here maybe 200 dollars.

A trip to briscoes bought my gf some gifts, total 25 Maori dollars.

Took a trip to that wank kiwifuit thing they have near Te Pukee, exactly the same goods, 55 Maori dollars!

Nice mark-up!

Drove to nearest beach to Te Puke, Maketu or some shit, a lot of Maoris looking angry and resentful and saw a fat Maori try unsuccessfully to break in to a car right in front of our eyes.

Watched wankers such as the Walrus, Coreen and Petra wank on on TV1 about bad journalists in UK.

Fell in love again with Renee the weather girl, glad she is doing the 4.30 slot and noticeably faultless, but noticed she is up the duff, broken hearted that someone got to her first.

No surf, but noticed people are catching kawhai off the beach near Tauranga.

Bought a cheap surf caster and reel, just because it was cheap. Must be made in China…or India…or these days more likely Vietnam or Cambodia.

Clutching my return ticket closely to my chest to Germany where milk sells for 50 cents.

WTF Seems cynical and manipulative as well as dishonest

We need honest discussion around the Treaty this includes all sides of the debate not just racist rhetoric from the left

@ Manolo you need to appreciate that for centuries Maori spelled Kapiti with a macron even before some whitey developed a written language for them.
