in the long term the internet will help social conservatives. That is because information about societal breakdown will be more readily available and people will realise that the old ways weren’t so stupid after all.

That’s just wishful thinking.

We could just as easily say that “it will be good for liberals because people will see how few of the conservatives fears actually came true”.

The internet is changing the way people interact. It is very unlikely that the result of that influence will be that people will realise that the way we related to each other when the internet didnt exist was 1) a better way, 2) even possible to resurrect now given the internet DOES exist.

Dont forget. The internet is where religions come to die. The internet starves religion of the ignorance it requires to stay alive.

This useless insurance situation which applied then needs sorting, this is for sure, isn’t it.

Something like a limitation on overseas liability and we taxpayers pick up the rest, as I understand it? (Not sure of the details.)

But fuck that.

How come NZ can tell the whole world to get fucked over big bad nukular weapons but we can’t even organise decent insurance coverage for damage to our domestic reefs and fishewies from the awful corpowate meanies?

This is a real Tania Harris moment isn’t it. C’mon NZ, c’mon.

Bringing Maowi into all this is a really good move Paul. I wish I’d thought of it. This will not only give us some limited traction in the MSM but most importantly it buys unstoppable bulldozer power through every single govt dept if we preface our idea with a Tia Tou Toutau and a Kia Ora Katoa.

They just can’t say no to that sort of shit. I suspect there is a SSC-mandated State Services Outlook configuration rule that whenever an email arrives with that in it anywhere, it goes immediately to the relevant dept’s CEO’s priority Inbox for immediate and urgent ~~attention~~ signoff.

OK but back to the sensible question of how the fuck do we hold agents of offshore corporations financially accountable for shit those agents cause on our shores?

It’s a very good question and will happen again in future so what pray tell, do we do?

My (suggested) solution is that we offer to give anyone anything, but we deliver it, not necessarily slowly but at our own pace, arriving to them at a time not of their but our choosing, with no forewarning, since we may need to make unexpected stopovers on the way.

This trade model works well as far as I’m concerned and if anyone has an issue with it, I suggest we either don’t speak to them at all or we try to invade them.

What does everyone think?

I became religious because of the internet. It allowed me to see more of a bigger picture and gain easy access to source documents. While as before the internet, I had to rely on what was filtered to me via the local bookshops, libraries and media. So it did the opposite to me that you claim it does.

Hope I can launch because of the 18 feet of oil that has clogged the beaches and fucked Tauranga and the Mount and I don’t get to dehydrated from retching at the sight and smell of the thousands of decomposing sea birds clogging the ramp.

Aussie Poetry

The sun was hot already – it was only 8 o’clock
The cocky took off in his Ute, to go and check his stock.
He drove around the paddocks checking wethers, ewes and lambs,
The float valves in the water troughs, the windmills on the dams.

He stopped and turned a windmill on to fill a water tank
And saw a ewe down in the dam, a few yards from the bank.
‘Typical bloody sheep,’ he thought, ‘they’ve got no common sense,
‘They won’t go through a gateway but they’ll jump a bloody fence.’

The ewe was stuck down in the mud, he knew without a doubt
She’d stay there ’til she carked it if he didn’t get her out.
But when he reached the water’s edge, the startled ewe broke free
And in her haste to get away, began a swimming spree.

He reckoned once her fleece was wet, the weight would drag her down
If he didn’t rescue her, the stupid sod would drown.
Her style was unimpressive, her survival chances slim
He saw no other option, he would have to take a swim.

He peeled his shirt and singlet off, his trousers, boots and socks
And as he couldn’t stand wet clothes, he also shed his jocks.
He jumped into the water and away that cocky swam
He caught up with her, somewhere near the middle of the dam

The ewe was quite evasive, she kept giving him the slip
He tried to grab her sodden fleece but couldn’t get a grip.
At last he got her to the bank and stopped to catch his breath
She showed him little gratitude for saving her from death.

She took off like a Bondi tram around the other side
He swore next time he caught that ewe he’d hang her bloody hide.
Then round and round the dam they ran, although he felt quite puffed
He still thought he could run her down, she must be nearly stuffed.

The local stock rep came along to pay a call that day.
He knew this bloke was on his own, his wife had gone away.
He didn’t really think he’d get fresh scones for morning tea
But nor was he prepared for what he was about to see.

He rubbed his eyes in disbelief at what came into view
For running down the catchment came this frantic-looking ewe.
And on her heels in hot pursuit and wearing not a stitch
The farmer yelling wildly ‘Come back here, you lousy bitch!’

The stock rep didn’t hang around, he took off in his car
The cocky’s reputation has been damaged near and far
So bear in mind the Work Safe rule when next you check your flocks
Spot the hazard, Assess the risk, and always wear your Jocks!

Bunnies are evil evil creatures spawn of the devil like clowns

Speaking of bunnies, I was down at the beach the other day with my oldest boy and hello hello, a tame rabbit wanders over. Of course, the boy picks the damned thing up and I “have” to take it home. My other children mauled it for a bit and then I took it to the SPCA to reunite it with it’s owner.

The lady at the SPCA assured me it would be claimed, but in a moment of weakness I tell my 5 year old daughter that if it doesn’t get claimed she can have it (winking at the SPCA lady).

Well bugger me if the damned thing didn’t get claimed and the daughter didn’t forget.

NEVER PROMISE BUNNIES TO 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS.

Now we have a rabbit that spends half it’s time inside and half out, I am already feeding it more often than I want too and the b@stard gave me a wicked scratch the other day.

It’s called Stew, and I told the kids that’s what it will be if they get sick of it! 🙂

It’s a hard case bloody thing, it clear jumps off the floor about 1m for no apparent reason and tears around like a puppy.

Johnboy, Griff, mm et al, just because you can’t make posts disappear, doesn’t mean to say I can or can’t, either way. So if it is in the purvue of one’s destiny to create a reality which makes sense only to oneself as a zen thing, why how can anything possibli be true, regardless of what came before, or after?

And Luc none of this excuses you from the answer to the above, don’t think I’m not paying attention as I type this. Don’t think that, at all.

Shunda at least your daughter didn’t have a giant bunny for which you had to pay to go to Aus and go thru the quarantine processes etc etc et al only to expire due to heat exhaustion several weeks after the release. If that ever happens to you let us know how you feel.

I became religious because of the internet.

And for every one of you, there are a thousand religious people finding out that evolution is a fact, that religion = cult + popularity + time – facts, and that if the god of the bible really existed as the book says you would have to be an amoral scumbag to use it for your moral compass.

Every lie your religious leaders tell you, has its rebuttal online. Offline you would never ever see them, you would be cloistered in your church, surrounded by people who reinforced your delusion. Offline you would never see “debate”, few if any people in your church would argue with what the authority says about the existence of your god.

You can build up walls online, ignoring all debunkings, clicking past scientific proofs. But you cant exercise the same control over people you are trying to indoctrinate.
