wat 12:43 – You have a fundermenal misunderstanding of Christianity and of the Bible. That’s not a sin :), in fact loads of scholars disagree on the meaning and application of much of the Bible. Being a simple, non-scholarly chap, I believe the Old Testament centred on rules and laws that were intended to guide the pre-Christian Jewish people.

It was only during Jesus’ ministry that the notion of becoming more Christ-like became applicable to everyone – Jew and gentile. And I fall short of this ideal. Often. Because I’m human. But that doesn’t make me a ‘so-called Christian’ any more than you speeding, and falling short of a standard of behaviour expected of kiwis, makes you a ‘so-called NZer’.

That’s not a sin, but let’s be clear that you no more follow the teachings of the Bible than I do. And neither done the sanctimonious Craig.

When you or Craig start advocating slavery and stonings for gathering sticks on the Sabbath then we’ll suspect this is no longer the case.

wat, *sigh* have you studied the Bible? What are your views on the difference in context of the Old vs New Testaments? You seem to believe the a Christian is required to abstain from work on the sabbath, avoid shelfish, sacrafice lambs and appropriately manage goring oxen etc. This isn’t the case. As for comparisons about following the teaching of the Bible, I know nothing about you so can’t make that judgement. I’m surprised that you can about me. Perhaps you have a prophetic gift 🙂

Griff, the ram is in with the ewes right now on my little block. Soon I will have some cute lambs bouncing around, and they are great fun to watch. They have a good life, running around freely in the country air, and are dispatched humanely on the block – no stressful journey in a truck.

The possums, now, that’s a different story – they either eat the possum bait I’ve set out, or get slammed by the car when they refuse to move. Daft as brushes …

krazykiwi is in fact correct, nasska. It’s really amazing how many non-Christians proclaim they understand our religion more than we believers do. Quite incredible.

I suppose you guys do that at work as well do you? I mean, I imagine you guys march into the general managers office and tell him/her to get out of that chair because you know how to run the company a whole lot better than they do, so they may as well go home right now. That’s pretty much what wat does, all the time, on religion. It’s odd, he never used to, he only started doing it about 3 months ago.

Perhaps he read some article and had an “aha” moment, and convinced himself he has an ussailable point which has never ever occured to any one of the billions of Christians throughout the ages.

It’s quite extraordinary to see his fixation on it. No matter what anyone learned says, wat knows best. Does he know the definition of a fanatic I wonder.

Actually it is. It’s just that so-called Christians have decided to simply ignore some 99% of the laws and teachings of the Bible.

Biblical code cannot be said to have any moral purpose or authority if, just a few generations later, it somehow becomes acceptable for everyone to just ignore all of them.
So either Yahweh was spouting complete crap when he created the endless stern code of the OT, or she is talking crap now with the hippy feel-good NT stuff: or both.

Either way, a deity that contradicts itself so comprehensively in its own magic book is one that can be safely ignored when it comes to establishing morality.

So do your preliminary research and if you still don’t have an answer after reading all 5 million sites, then by all means come back and ask your question, but I’m fairly sure one of those sites will have what you seek.

I’m well aware of the endless efforts Christians apologists have made to try and square the circle, but the fact is that the fundamental points are not complex at all. What you take for complexity is merely the smokescreen of the endless dissembling of sanctimonious hypocrites.

Yahweh went to the trouble of spelling out hundreds of laws in the OT, yet you blithely claim you can just ignore them; that you can pick and choose which of her laws and teachings you will respect. And even the relatively soft’n’cuddly love-me-or-burn-in-hell-forever stuff of the NT still has you selectively choosing which parts of the code you will adhere to (not the stuff about poverty, obviously.)

That’s fine, until you start claiming some sort of divine moral authority for your 1% position. We are then faced with Yahweh’s own endless contradictions and your own self-serving selectivtivity.

wat 6:57 – Not sure where to start with that. A good place might be to acknolwedge that down through the ages, people have cited various biblical claims to support their pre-meditated human action. Christianity isn’t unique here.

The cornerstone of Christianity is, not surprisingly, Christ. My shameless objective is to emmulate His values as set out in the New Testament. So the laws passed to the Jews thousands of year earlier are of little interest to me.

LJ is rigth though. You don’t appear to want to hear this. Finding one Christian who misses one law from the 1000’s throughout the Bible allows you to retreat to a comfortable dismissal of Christianity. As I suggested earlier, I hope you hand back your kiwi citizenship the next time you have an overdue library book.

Perhaps one shouldn’t worry about what they sound like and think more about what actually is in fact behind the bollocks, what they actually really truly represent and will do once in power.

Sadly even said concept let alone action is beyond most US voters of course but I would have thought it would be quite easy for outsiders from the US to peer into said reality and discern it appropriately.

The Christ figure in the Bible is just one manifestation of this belief system’s deity, Yahweh.

So right away you are committing a fundamental error by focussing on this particular sock-puppet and ignoring the far broader nature of the deity.

There can be absolutely no justification for such selectivity. It is the equivalent of only considering Reinhard Heydrich the loving family man and ignoring entirely Reinhard Heydrich murdering Nazi.

So again we’re back to the fact that you are selecting just a tiny fraction of Yahweh’s teachings and laws; namely the ones which happen to coincide with modern humanist ideas. You are emphatically not taking your morals and laws from the Bible.

Our Judeo-Christian ancestors understood something that postmodern liberals do not: The primary purpose of sexual activity is to procreate – to have children – within the boundaries of marriage. Romantic love, personal fulfillment, burning passion – all of these things are nice, but secondary to the real purpose and mission of marriage. Secular liberals are engaged in social engineering. They are fostering the myth that women and men are the same and interchangeable.

What irritates me about this whole over blown “pressing” issue of gay rights is how hypocritical and illogical so much of their bullshit mantra is.

I don’t care if people are gay, I get that it is wrong to persecute people, but that is most certainly not what this is about any more.

The gay community are the darlings of the liberal elite, they get a free pass because the liberal elite say so, they are the rottweilers of social change, get in their way or hang on to something they want and you are going to get bitten.

Since when is narcissism and selfishness a f@ckin virtue? yet the liberal elite proudly proclaim just that, and if you don’t accept every damned depraved act or idea they come up with, they seek to marginalise and smear you with some of the most vile labels and hate filled attitudes humanity has ever dreamed up.

There is no future in this ignorant nihilistic thinking, all they are doing is tearing down institutions and proven beneficial beliefs on nothing but a friggin whim, for a bit of (relatively) fleeting notoriety and pleasure.

WASHINGTON—Saying there’s no way around it at this point, a coalition of scientists announced Thursday that one-third of the world population must die to prevent wide-scale depletion of the planet’s resources—and that humankind needs to figure out immediately how it wants to go about killing off more than 2 billion members of its species.

Representing multiple fields of study, including ecology, agriculture, biology, and economics, the researchers told reporters that facts are facts: Humanity has far exceeded its sustainable population size, so either one in three humans can choose how they want to die themselves, or there can be some sort of government-mandated liquidation program—but either way, people have to start dying.

And soon, the scientists confirmed.

“I’m just going to level with you—the earth’s carrying capacity will no longer be able to keep up with population growth, and civilization will end unless large swaths of human beings are killed, so the question is: How do we want to do this?” Cambridge University ecologist Dr. Edwin Peters said. “Do we want to give everyone a number and implement a death lottery system? Incinerate the nation’s children? Kill off an entire race of people? Give everyone a shotgun and let them sort it out themselves?”

“Completely up to you,” he added, explaining he and his colleagues were “open to whatever.” “Unfortunately, we are well past the point of controlling overpopulation through education, birth control, and the empowerment of women. In fact, we should probably kill 300 million women right off the bat.”

Because the world’s population may double by the end of the century, an outcome that would lead to a considerable decrease in the availability of food, land, and water, researchers said that, bottom line, it would be helpful if a lot of people chose to die willingly, the advantage being that these volunteers could decide for themselves whether they wished to die slowly, quickly, painfully, or peacefully.

Additionally, the scientists noted that in order to stop the destruction of global environmental systems in heavily populated regions, there’s no avoiding the reality that half the world’s progeny will have to be sterilized.

“The longer we wait, the higher the number of people who will have to die, so we might as well just get it over with,” said Dr. Chelsea Klepper, head of agricultural studies at Purdue University, and the leading proponent of a worldwide death day in which 2.3 billion people would kill themselves en masse at the exact same time. “At this point, it’s merely a question of coordination. If we can get the populations of New York City, Los Angeles, Beijing, India, Europe, and Latin America to voluntarily off themselves at 6 p.m. EST on June 1, we can kill the people that need to be killed and the planet can finally start renewing its resources.”

Thus far, humanity has been presented with a great variety of death options, among them, poisoning the world’s water supply with cadmium, picking one person per household to be killed in the privacy of his or her home, mass beheadings, and gathering 2.3 billion people all in one place and obliterating them with a single hydrogen bomb.

Sources confirmed that if a death solution is not in place by Mar. 31, the U.N., in the interest of preserving the human race, will mobilize its peacekeeping forces and gun down as many people as necessary.

“I don’t care how it happens, but a ton of Africans have to go, because by 2025, there’s no way that continent will be able to feed itself,” said Dr. Henry Craig of the Population Research Institute. “And by my estimation, three babies have to die for every septuagenarian, because their longer life expectancy means babies have the potential to release far more greenhouse gases going forward.”

While the majority of the world’s populace reportedly understands this is the only option left to save civilization, not all members of the human race are eager to die.

“I personally would rather live, but taking the long view, I can see how ensuring the survival of humanity is best,” said Norwich, CT resident and father of three Jason Atkins. “I guess if we were to do it over again, it would make sense to do a better job conserving the earth’s finite resources.”

“Hopefully, the people who remain on the planet will use the mass slaughter of their friends and loved ones as an incentive to be more responsible going forward,” he added

He was always full of empty rhetoric – going over to Germany to promote himself even while he was still in the running? Enticing the Germans to come listen by offering free beer and sausage? Pfft.

Unlike a lot of people, I learned as much about him as I could, and didn’t like what I found. Originally I preferred him to Hillary, but not after I read up on him. When he won, the people around me were saying to me, wow, isn’t it great? And I was saying no, I don’t think so, and they couldn’t understand why. Well, now they do.

Romney isn’t perfect, no one is, but he’s a damn sight better than Obama.

How Mitt Romney’s selflessness helped save a 14 year old girl’s life –

Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy.

Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter.

Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could, prostitutes, drug addicts, anyone.

That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose.

Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, “It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.”

The number of such victims over the last few years fighting the Taliban and Al Queda will not have been small.

Yes I’ve been pointing to that for quite awhile Yvette. Good to see others are also aware. Funny how the MSM isn’t, given the gravity, isn’t it.

Perhaps several US lives killed in a tragic road accident is much more relevant than hundreds of thousands.

Who knows.

I’ve given up on expecting any wisdom to issue from any MSM channel, on anything, ever. Which is quite a shame, for those who rely on them. Since no doubt, they’ll be taken by huge negative shock, one of these days. Poor fools.
