“With carbon prices hovering around $5 a tonne, there is no incentive for emitters to invest in clean technology when even that price is halved for them.

“Nor is there the incentive for land owners to plant trees to store carbon,” he said.

For the scheme’s first year, to mid-2011, the carbon price was stable at about $20 a tonne and money flowed from energy consumers to forest owners with carbon credits to sell.

But since then international carbon prices have collapsed, and New Zealand units can be had for around $4.

Emitters have loaded up on cheap imported carbon, prompting calls to limit the extent they can meet their obligations from that source.

So, here how it goes. Emmitters so called, buy credits from some foriegn outfit and give them to the Govt. The govt. gives them to forresters who pocket the cash and run away.

The emitters customers are ripped off ( see the cost of feul and the windfall profits made by the oil co’s.), to pay the some foriegner for the emitters purchases using our very valuable oversea’s funds for no real benefit to NZ or NZer’s.

Well done Nick Smith and John Key. A real green traders ponzi.
The serious fraud office or whatever they call themselves these days should be investigating this ponzi scheme.In the good ol USA the SEC would have closed this down by now.but here in the land of not much anymore we encourage theives fraudsters and useless politicans.

The missionaries were the major European land holders this is claiming that the ones buying land were the ones there stopping the buying of land
settlers numbered ? a handful that were not aligned to the church outside of two trading villages Russell and port Nicholson again pure bullshite

The New Zealand history on line web site is in need of an actual historical based rewrite its white guilt revision not history. and they use it to teach our kids about te treaty !!!!

One thing our side is going to have to do is delay and question history. Maori side is always saying that “NZrs are ignorant of our history” and are sitting on half the story.
I agree with Griff. Only one side is paid to advocate and that includes the wankers who have time on their hands to fiddle with wikipaedia.
