At the invitation of a TV crew he travelled in a plane over Coromandal penninsular. His parole conditions forbid him entering the penninsulat.

Corrections applied to have him recalled, but the Board refused. Corrections also tried to have him prosecuted, but the judge threw the case out. IMO even if he had been convicted he would have got the wet bus ticket treatment.

IMO Corrections was being petty and vindictive here. Given that the courts are clogged, Corrections and other agencies should not be taking such cases to the courts.

Mr Wu’s position is entirely reasonable.
Moreover, if someone is willing to sell their labour for $8 an hour, what right has anyone to interfere?
If the minimum wage were to be abolished, it would soon become clear who was voluntarily unemployed and, therefore, undeserving of any kind of benefit.

Cannabis use is a huge problem in NZ. Largely ignored or even a nudge nudge wink wink attitude from the media.How often do you hear media and music types guffawing in interviews “if you can remember the 60’s you weren’t there hahaha”.References to “recreational” drug use etc.Nothing “recreational” about it.

It’s a tactic to “normalise” drug use so it can be legalised.

So now it’s gone from the hippy “love” generation to intermediate school kids,we should be so proud of ourselves!Those fucking hippies are now the worried grandparents of kids in solo parent households without a future……..karma.

Cannabis ,it’s destructive and dangerous,especially to young people studying or hoping to get a job.

Labour are dangling an election carrot of $4-6 per week, which is small change – it certainly won’t give anyone any hope of escapying the pangs of poverty.

And there are huge risks involved – arguably they are risking their economic credibility, but they are also risking the New Zealand economy. Betting on getting power, using our money.

Hamnida, are you prepared to admit then that the sole reason for high power price increases from 2001 – 2008 was that the generators were gouging consumers ? And admit that this was the fault of the power generator owners ? I’m sure you’re happy to blame the owners from 2009-2013 as well.

I know you clapping cheering idiots really really really HATE HATE HATE the markets and cheer at evey blow against it, because you simplistically associate them together with the tiny handful of truly evil people in it, who are really the ones you hate, but that it doesn’t apply to the markets themselves you fools, is something you haven’t quite in your young, immature, facile and naive little mind. And fact is, we need to be held in good regard by the markets, it’s not a nice to have, it’s an essential requirement toward running NZ’s economy.

Just because you believe you’re right because it’s a blow for the cause, to sabotage the asset sales program, doesn’t mean you are. Because once again you idiots have conflated US with the program. This is not a blow for OUR freedom as you fools see it. No. What it is is a very expensive billion dollar policy failure, because of you guys. And no upside, at all, for US, even if your dumb plan comes to fruition. How mental is that?

And BTW, I mentioned it to the gas station guy last night and he said he was going to buy shares. Those are the people you’ve sabotaged. Proud of that?

Pete, there’s not even a real bribe involved. If Labour really think that there’s efficiencies to be gained by having a single power purchasing entity, they’re dreaming. There’;s been a deliberate policy since around 2001 to increase power costs in order to drive “efficiencies” and to drive down power usage, presumably on the basis that power is expensive and polluting.

If market mechanisms work, decreasing the cost of power will increase usage, which means more investment will be required in generation, which is so contrary to what has been the left/green mantra for so long that I don’t see where this policy has any rational foundation. Unless of course one sees it as a policy specifically designed to undercut the MRP float.

And since high income people typically use more power than low income people, this is an implicit subsidy to the “rich”, so one would expect that the cost of this would be steeply progressive tax increases to offset this.

I’d be very interested to read the detail of the BERL study supporting this. I’d be very surprised if the there weren’t a raft of extremely dodgy assumptions built in, the thought that it can deliver both an extra 300 or whatever jobs AND save hundreds of millions a year is laughable, jobs are a cost for christ’s sake, there’s a cost of, say, 200-300 million a year in the direct costs alone for 3,000 jobs, and those are non-productive for a start. BERL’s reputation has never been that high, but it’s unlikely to be enhanced by this fabricated crap.

I needed to move a house a few years ago and was told by a Council planner that I had to have permission of the resident of a neighbouring property because the house needed to be ‘moved’ over the neighbour’s property. Although the neighbour had no objection anyway I was a bit frustrated about how long the ‘consent’ had stretched out, anyway I eventually convinced the council that the house wasn’t in fact going to be crossing over the nearby property, but in fact only the ‘shadow’ of the house would be crossing the property because it was being lifted in by crane. The delights of language.

Agree Ed, that report will be interesting.

The way to do this if they really are doing it because they care about people, is to announce a subsidy on people’s electricity bills. That was if they really were doing it for that reason. But as we all know, that’s just the cover story for the useful idiots, the sort of people who watch SevenSharp and think they’re being informed.

There is no incentive anymore to build new generating capacity and Auckland’s going to need it in the next thirty years.

They’re hanging their hats on the fact it’s apparently done in other countries including 35? states in the US, Shearer mentioned Texas as one. It would be worth looking into those schemes. What I suspect is the market forces are different there, the nuclear stations would be one factor, there would be others like stiffer competition, too.

One of the great policy bubbles of our times has been cap and trade for carbon emissions, and on Tuesday it may have popped for good. The European Parliament refused to save the EU’s failing program, which is the true-believer equivalent of the pope renouncing celibacy. [kk :D]

The Parliament in Strasbourg voted 334-315 (with 63 abstentions) against propping up the price of carbon credits in the EU Emissions Trading System. The failed proposal would have delayed the scheduled sale of 900 million ETS permits over the next seven years, thereby suppressing supply. After carbon traders realized they weren’t getting more artificial scarcity, they drove the price of emissions permits down by 40% at one point on Tuesday.

EU carbon permit prices have collapsed as the Continent’s economic crisis curbs energy demand. Utilities and industrial firms have less need to emit CO2 above their statutory limits. Total emissions in the EU fell by nearly 10% between 2007-2011, according the most recent data. The low price of carbon allowances is good for consumers who don’t have to absorb the extra regulatory cost in what they pay for energy.

Interesting findings on the relative importance of ANZAC Day and Waitangi Day from a SayIt online poll (n=1000) by UMR
General population:
•60% said that ANZAC Day meant more to them personally than Waitangi Day
•Just 8% reported that Waitangi Day meant more to them than ANZAC Day
•29% said that both were equally important
•2% were unsure.
Maori:
•29% of Maori say that ANZAC Day means more to them than Waitangi Day, while 56% regard the two days as equally important.
•14% of Maori feel that Waitangi Day means more to them than ANZAC Day.

The use of $2.6 million in taxpayer money to help fund a Maori community housing scheme has been slammed by Bob Clarkson.

The maoris are just getting more and more, and now the government is building free houses for them. What about the poor white guy in the same situation? Wrong skin colour so bugger off.

I’d not mind (as much) if it was based on socio economic status, but , to give houses to people because of their skin colour is wrong.

While this keeps continuing, maori will continue to be looked at as bludgers on society with no hope other than to beg for money without working for it. It will be a self fulfilling prophecy too. Good luck with that.

In that case three questions for you liarbor – I genuinely want to know:

1) It is a well known fact that Maori are over represented in prison statistics. Everybody knows that, it’s been that way for a long time. What then is your reason for trawling through media reports of Maori criminals and informing us about them?

2) Why do we only hear about the Maori criminals and not criminals of other races?

If you are trying to have more impact on crime policy would it not be wise to discus the area were the effort and expense can be most gainfully employed.

Not true. Had to get some venison sausies off the butcher to add to the humble pie! 🙂

Funnily enough when I got back and went for a walk up the back paddock I caught my old ram trying to mount a young chap!

Filthy behaviour. He made some excuse about it being legal now!

Don’t know what possessed him. Plenty of lamb and mint sausies to eat now too though! 🙂

Turns out “naked man” (obviously he doesn’t wear a hat) was stripped, taken to a police car, questioned, given clothes, taken photos of, questioned again………..then let go!
If that happened in NZ the police would be facing harassment and sexual abuse charges!

Am just now watching Wednesday’s “Back Benches” on MySky. The quiz had panellists being asked “Who was the Director of Brokeback Mountain?” No one knew but then Jamie Lee Ross came out deadpan with “David Parker and Gerry Brownlee?” I can’t stop laughing this guy has my vote for PM.

Word on the street (meaning some members of the public monitoring police communications with a scanner) says that Suspect 1 is Mike Mulugeta, and Suspect 2 is Sunil Tripathi. I don’t know which has been apprehended or is dead, and which one is free.
