There has been a lot of talk about printing money or QE over the last several months. I have some questions about the actual process

1- Do “they” actually print more money?
2- if the answer to 1 is yes – how do they get the cash into the economy? I am making the assumption, the cash comes off the printing press and sits on pallets somewhere in some warehouse (reserve bank) and someone doesn’t take handfuls and runs up to the roof and throws it over the side.
2a – Do they load it up on the back of truck and drive it around to the bank the Government banks with (westpac I think) and makes a deposit in the general fund account?

I am picking the answer to 1 is that they don’t print more money at all but it is all done electronically eg the reserve bank makes a digital deposit into the Govts westpac account.

The Nation confirmed what was fairly obvious about Labour and Green motives on their NZ Power play, Parker and Hughes revealed as much with what they didn’t answer as what they said.

This is politics at it’s self interested worst.

I’m slightly surprised that Labour would stoop to this level. Power at any cost seems to have overwhelmed their care for the interests of the country.

I’m very surprised that Greens climbed on board Labour’s hit job, they usually pride themselves on being a very principled party, this shows them up as no better than the worst.

I’m finding it very funny. It’s going to be a debacle of Biblical proportion. The economic naivity inherent in this policy lies naked just below the surface, it’s that bad. Therefore even the thickest economic commentator is likely to pick up on it. They’re going to be excoriated across the board for their child-like foolishness. I can’t wait.

They do in Afghanistan. They also drop bombs and missiles on them and should do the same in London. Plenty of people (on KB) have made it crystal clear that a few (tens of thousands actually) civilian deaths are ok, just as long as you did not “target” them.

the problem with the US invading afghanistan is they didnt kill enough of them.

but, being the eternal optimist that i am, there is still time!!!

although watching the yanks bomb some persians would also be quality viewing.

the only issue is they never give a completely accurate kick off time. mysky gets all fucked up. AND they usually start wars on a weekday around lunchtime our time. i know its prime time in the states, but cant they throw us a bone?

also, if they let us know in advance when the kick off was, the tv companies could sell more advertising.

i also think the US failed to promote the afghan war. They had some awesome new drones on display. we should have had more footage of them taking people out.

and they also layed down the apaches. there is some amazing footage on youtube. the dirty terrorists had no chance. especially if they were 5 year old terrorists. way too slow.

and no best of bluray release. obama needs to go more hollywood.

Like someone just said – look at Boston.

But in Boston unlike Afganistan, there is no regular guerillia warfare – and there is certainly not a large element of the general populace who are loyal to Afgan tribal ‘commanders’ who, once the US leave will fight for control of Afganistan.

That is why we went there and that is why we stayed – to create a nation that can defend itself from the likes of tribal ‘commanders’, and also the Taliban – people who are not from Afganistan!

There are old sores in Afgaistan to settle that are a hangover from the USSR occupation. And a National defence force is needed to keep the peace between tribal commanders.

The ‘Lion of Afganistan’ from northern Afganistan was the only person who could have ever achieved peace in that country, but Al Quada killed him 2 days or so before 9/11.

And the reason – they knew the US would come and that he would align Afgan forces against Bin Laden. The rest is history.

It’s always helpful to know how the other side thinks, in any analysis. So if you a non-believer, I suggest watching it without judgement. Don’t treat it as if it’s trying to sell you something, just look at it like how a person would if he was just watching it and drinking in the true spirit behind the words, the music, the pictures on the screen. That’s how we believers think, when we think about religion.

Indeed. And someone who steals something or does something else terrible with their hands here gets to keep those hands. To the disgust of some. Just pointing out the fact that situations are seen differently by different people in different places. All Muslims will be condemned (again) by some people over the Boston attack on the strength of the information that’s emerged about the two brothers. I know it’s booming. The point is Kea, the Taliban had eliminated it. Now if the US really was above board, wouldn’t it have made lot of sense to keep it eliminated, when they arrived? Especially given their aerial defoliation and satellite crop detection capabilities? They could have easily done it. Especially when the first thing drug lords do is become a security problem in the regions they operate in. Not to mention the arms they buy and spread around. But no, nothing like that happened. It was a common-sense no brainer foreign country invasion 101 type of policy, but nothing happened.

That’s the point. And if you like you can choose to think it was an accident, a simple oversight. But given that if the US did control the trade, it would get hundreds of billions for its black budgets, was it just that or was it something else?

Yes and the Taliban also installed a measure of stability to the country. You could actually go from one village to another without getting robbed by bandits. They have “boundaries” the Taliban. I think they were trying to suck up to the USA by installing Sharia law, just like the USA’s friend Saudi Arabia. They must have thought the Yanks would be their mates if they had Sharia law, like Saudi Arabia has Sharia law.

Of course the Taliban have always been mates with the US, who set them up, trained them, gave them weapons, not so long ago. They were the Mujahideen, but changed their name when they kicked the Russians out and started rebuilding their country.

The US were great mates with Sadam and made the Taliban what it is today. They are also mates with other despots in the region [Central Asia], so they can have their bases there.

Khamenei was born in Khorasan.

It is believed that the Mahdi will only reappear when Armageddon is upon the world, and Iran is seeking nuclear weapons to bring it on.

The Talibahn were never mates with the US, as the Taliban was formed AFTER the Afgan/USSR war.

The Mujahideen were never Afgans either.

Individual Muslims went to Afganistan from other Muslim countries to help their Muslim brothers kick out the USSR.They called themselves the Mujahideen or were known as that.

Then they stayed on and took control of the country under the idealogy of hardline Islam. Then called themselves the Taliban.

This is what I said –

I knew that the US had funded the Mujahideen so I didn’t disgree with Kea saying it. I was just pointing out that the Mujahideen weren’t the Taliban at that stage[the USSR war] and did not impose rule on Afganistan till well after the war.

I would go so far as to say that the US would have had no knowledge that the Mujahideen were ever going to go on to form the Talibahn, as before the USSR war Afganistan was a rather peaceful country.

{The war only ever started because the then King and his family were killed by his cousin who was somewhat of a mental case. The USSR then went into Afganistan because it was the ‘soft underbelly of Russia’ and said they would only stay till the country was back under self rule. The Afgans wanted them out and went to war with them. The US saw it as an opportunity to bankrupt the USSR and funded the Mujahideen. The russians actually sold Alaska to the US to fund it, under what was known as the ‘deal of the century’ – something like $10US an acre!}

Harriet, you initially wrote that the Mujahideen were never Afgans, and that they where Muslims from other countries to help repel the Russians.

The accounts of Gates and Brzezinski make it clear the Mujahideen existed before the Russian invasion, so they must have initially been Afghanis.

Kea’s statement about the US supported Afghan Mujahideen becoming the Taliban was correct.

The point of all this is that the involvement of the US destabilized Afghanistan and developed a manufactured enemy who could be blamed for the events of 9/11, providing further impetus for US military expansion. In this context it’s hardly suprising that Obama spent time in Pakistan during Al Queda’s formative years.
