Father ‘appalled’ that Millet mother who drowned young boys could be released Thursday

I bet the Canadian government will not change the law on custody or access that affect women detrimentally because of the callous murder by this vindictive excuse for a mother like NZ did when a father murdered his three children.

The father of two young boys who drowned at the hands of their Millet mother, says he is appalled that Allyson McConnell could be released from Alberta Hospital as early as Thursday.

McConnell was sentenced last summer to six years for the drowning deaths of her two sons, 10-month-old Jayden and two-year-old Connor.

McConnell had admitted to drowning her two sons in the bathtub of the family home. During her trial, she testified that she couldn’t remember anything about the events of that weekend in early 2010.

Taking the Danish MP back to the Danish context,she represents a very large body of concern in Denmark about immigration ,particularly from Muslim dominated countries as well as the loss due to European Union politics of Danish national identity and culture.

While her comments may have been rude in the NZ context ,Proportional Representation gives voiceless Europeans a voice against the totalitarian instincts of the left and European unelected Brussels bureacrats.

That voice is growing in Europe and hopefully the UKIP does well in Britain with it’s FPP that denies so many British people a say in how their country is run by the Establishment Elites.

Not what Google says it means. Not what a bunch of website links point to. What do YOU think Neolib means?

I see people do this a lot. They throw out various labels, and catchphrases, and cute little sayings. But when challenged on them, it often turns out that they are merely using a convenient label or catchphrase to serve their own purposes, without a full understanding of what it means. You’re not the only one to do that on Kiwiblog, just the most recent.

I suspect many Kiwis, like myself, have sat through these Maori welcomes and tried not to yawn or roll our eyes. It is a rather formulaic, anachronistic display from a neolithic culture which I am sure resonates with some but leaves a lot of us cold. I always tried to arrive late to miss the rituals and the prayers imposed often by supposedly secular state agencies.
And spare us those long, long speeches.
Funny that the official response is that we just need it all explained to us more carefully so that our slow minds can understand.
Even funnier is the war dance done by flabby fat guys who would obviously run a mile if anyone poked a spear at them!

Tis all to do with ecnomics which I’m really really bad at.
But I’ll give you my interpretation of neo-liberalism. Basically its to do with the free market which is achieved by governments minimising their control on business, giving them as close to free reign as possible, to allow maximum trade around the globe and with that economic growth will occur. The main aspect is to eliminate government regulation which neo-liberalists stupidly believe will make us prosperous. Neo-liberals hate environmental policy, minimum wage levels and especially unions, because their demands stop them getting RICH.

(they are also blue on the inside and speak with forked tongues) – well not really but I have to say something to obtain more red thumbs! 🙂

Or maybe they can, but are worried that reducing tax rates might free their supporters from a state of dependency.

An interesting article in the Sydney Morning Herald on NSW changes to the right to silence. It points out that practice in England and Wales has been used to justify changes without having the same conditions.

As the government overturned one of the most tightly held principles of criminal law – the right to silence – it brandished two arguments in support.

First, abolishing the right to silence had the support of the police. Second, it was far from the revolutionary move its critics claimed. Britain enacted the same legislation nearly 20 years ago.

The ”evidence of silence” laws passed last month were designed to make trials more efficient and stop the defence from springing surprises on the prosecution.

They require the defence and prosecution to outline the key aspects of their cases weeks before trial, and allow the jury to draw an unfavourable inference if an unexpected defence is raised at trial.

They also abolish the right to silence, so juries will be able to draw adverse conclusions if accused people choose not to participate in police interviews, but later rely on evidence that they could have brought up in the first place.

But Britain’s Justice and Public Order Act 1994, on which they were modelled, was formulated in an entirely different context.

In Britain, duty solicitors are stationed at police stations 24 hours, and one of their roles is to advise the accused on the implications of remaining silent.

In NSW, there is no funding to place a duty solicitor in every police station around the clock, although the law will still only apply to people who have been cautioned in the presence of a lawyer.

President of the NSW Bar Association Phillip Boulten also warns that while in Britain there is a culture of continuous disclosure, that does not exist in Australia.

There, the police present much more information to the accused before any interview takes place, and continue to disclose new evidence as it comes to light.

In NSW, people accused of committing a crime will be expected to disclose all of their defence in circumstances where the police do not have to volunteer any evidence against them.

Mr Boulten recalled a case from his early career in which an 18-year-old man accused of arson volunteered two false alibis under police questioning. Mr Boulten visited him in Long Bay and asked him to think again, at which point the confused teen realised he could not have committed the offence because on the relevant night he was in the cells for stealing a car.

”That’s an example of how people say things in police interviews that make them look as though they’re guilty,” he said. But police could draw adverse inferences from a more subtle line of questioning as well.

”They get into a record of interview where they’re asked thousands of questions that really only have a peripheral impact on whether they did X or not. If they get one of those facts wrong, either because they’re confused or embarrassed about something that has nothing to do with the crime, that becomes a very big issue at the trial.”

A solicitor in criminal law Patrick Conaghan said ”nine times out of 10” he advised clients to exercise their right to silence when arrested.

”The average person who gets in trouble for the first time generally thinks they’re doing the right thing by telling everything to police,” he said. ”But it would be an exception if there wasn’t something in that record of interview that a decent prosecutor wouldn’t latch on to and use against them. A mistake or a mis-statement won’t be cast as a mistake or a mis-statement, it will be cast as a lie.”

That last paragraph is especially true. Although witnesses are allowed to have gaps in their memory, according to most Crown/Police prosecutors any mistake on the part of the defendant is automatically a lie.

In NZ the number of lawyers attending police stations to advise suspects is miniscule, whereas in the UK a majoiry of suspects have been advised by a lawyer prior to giving a statement.

It does highlight the practice of (so-called) Justice Ministers in Aus and NZ to cherry pick changes from the English model that are favourable to the prosecution while not having the safeguards that that model provides. Simon Power, a Blairite on justice if ever there was one, was quite fond of that trick.

Unemployed Mick Philpott on £100,000 a year salary

Unemployed Mick Philpott, who killed his six children in an arson attack, was receiving the equivalent of a £100,000 a year salary in benefits and wages. Philpott, due to be sentenced tomorrow, lived off the state benefit handouts for his 17 children and the money his partners earned – which he forced them to pay directly into his account.

While the money rolled in the violent drug user, who has not worked since 2004, spent most of his time sitting at home watching TV.

He revelled in his “Shameless Mick” nickname, given to him when he hit the headlines in 2006 for demanding that Derby City Council provide him and his brood with a bigger house, despite the fact he never worked.

It led to an appearance on The Jeremy Kyle Show, when both Mairead and Lisa Willis were pregnant at the same time, and also a documentary with Ann Widdecombe, in which she found him a job.

One theory was that he and his wife Mairead set fire to the home, killing their children, in order to get a bigger council house.

The exact amount he received in benefits has not been revealed, but the court was told he lost £1,000 a month when his lover Miss Willis left him.

He was receiving £20.30 a week child benefit for the eldest of the 11 children in the house and £13.40 each for the others, according to the Times, making £8,023.60 a year tax free.

According to Revenue and Customs, Mairead, with six children, would be entitled to £20,560 in tax credits and Miss Willis to up to £17,870 totalling £38,430, also tax free.

Therefore he could have been receiving £46,453 in benefits.

Housing benefit also paid his £7,800 a year rent on his Derby home, which along with the money he got from both his partners cleaning jobs, could have taken his “income” to almost £68,000 – the equivalent of a £100,000 salary after tax.

This would have put Philpott in the top two per cent of earners.

Writing in the Daily Mail Professor of Criminology David Wilson said that his conviction should leave reality TV “hanging its head in shame” for presenting obscene, outlandish, and violent behaviour as entertainment.

The Birmingham City University professor wrote: “Tragically for his now broken, bereaved family, Mick Philpott was partly a creation of that sick world. It was misnamed reality television that fed his gigantic, malevolent ego, that fuelled his rampant sense of entitlement, that turned him into a twisted kind of celebrity who thought he was untouchable.”

Absolutely right. Stimulating demand does not work. To achieve growth(in tax and employment) you need to stimulate production and the best way for that is through lowering taxes, enabling employers to invest in their business through plant machinery and new staff.
And for new businesses to start up.

How many New Zealanders really care about how Ian Fletcher got his job. There was no rampant bribery or cronyism. Key obviously recognised the best man for the job and suggested he apply for it. He might have bypassed proper protocol but that was about all. The Labour Party in it’s frenzy to get anything at all against Key to bring him down clutches at straws. The enthusiastic response to the Mighty River share float undermines the left’s attempt to stop the sale. I imagine most of those signing the referendum against the sale probably can not afford to buy shares.

No doubt Shearer is a decent man but Labour needs another Lange or Norman Kirk.

FFS it is her opinion and surely she is entitled to have one just as people in NZ may chose to disagree with her. Are we that thin skinned in NZ that we get upset by trivia like this

Auckland Unitary Plan – f**k me – talk about intelligible nonsense.

Just received a letter informing us our property is on a Significant Ecological Area (SEA) – we back on to a reserve and let most of the 1300 m2 be natural bush. The consequences of this – who the f**k knows – pointed at a poorly designed complex web site that still left me unsure what the restrictions were.

The letter sent looked liked a form letter that planning rules MAY affect our property. Then at the bottom of the 1st page of dense text it indicated that the extent of the SEA on our property can be found at the useless web site.

There was a second page with FAQs attached which identified criteria, which I struggle to attach to our area – some native bush in Birkenhead where we see tuis, morpork, an enormous number of rats, a native pigeon, ozzie rosellas, mice, some imported finches, possum, skinks and wetas. Our cats kill a lot of rats and the very occasional magpie.

There is a scary definition of significant in SEA that they may be applying of the five named as the others did not appear to apply – namely – Representativeness = the area represents the growth stages of native plants in the ecological district and the natural extent of that habitat type!!!

That definition matches growing any old tree on your property!!!

I attempted to read the entire plan – it is an enormous and difficult to read document that almost looks designed to hide information. When I got to our area I was no better informed.

The website says if within x metres of something certain types of streams then further restrictions apply – it does not let you know whether the occasional dribble at the bottom of our local reserve counts as the relevant type of stream etc etc

This all looks like deliberate obfuscation.

Looks like I need to spend a couple of hours on the phone to the call line to get them to give me specific information.

As usual – when they bring such stupid initiatives it only leads to unexpected consequences like when they brought in the pohutukawa rules on the shore – it led to lots of pohutukawa trees being cut down. If I am told I need a permit to even trim trees on my property better to cut them down now – f****g idiots!!!!!!

So DPF – get your Wellington glasses off and look at this please

Seems a stiff sentence for theft, even for what was essentially theft as a servant Reid. I suspect that the Christchurch trash may have received her slap on the hand sentence as a reward for her testimony against the POS who actually killed the young bloke.

Still, it’s a reminder that our law is essentially British law which was written to protect property rather than people.

I assume you are talking about the woman in Queenstown. The local Judge Phillips is a law unto himself..He is the one who wanted to be the only ”tit” in his court room..He hands out stiff sentences. He doesn’t like breast feeding or much else associated with humanity.

The young woman from Riccarton is a witness for the police..As well as not helping Hayden , she helped the murderer avoid arrest.
People who do not have anything to do with the system or those caught up in it , do not seem to know just how inconsistent and unfair it can be.. I know someone who served a lengthy term of imprisonment for a trifling matter..sentence handed out by Phillips..which if he had been in another courtroom would have not got him any prison time..Of course , a few rednecks in the South think Phillips is great but actually he needs investigating..He is costing the tax payer a lot of money and people are being discriminated against by simply ending up before him.
Where is the young woman supposed to find 30,000.00? Why imprisonment and a fine? People had been complaining to NZ Post for years..they did nothing.
Phillips is far enough away from Wgtn for him to go unnoticed but it is time he was exposed.

What really snuk up my nose today was the attitude of Sean ex National Radio Plunkett.

Hosts and commentaters on radio that suggest that a Maori powhiri is a New Zealand thing (such as Plunkett suggested) don’t talk for me.Like many others with a long Kiwi heritage I resent being told my heritage is Maori.

I am not a Maori and do not agree that we should wheel out this cultural crap as though we all agree with it.

I now applaud the Dane who had the intestinal fortitude to say what so many real kiwis think.

You can take it to the bank that there was evidence that she must have gained way more than 30K
Complaints from people who didn’t get birthday/xmas presents/gift vouchers they knew had been posted etc.

I’d imagine it would have to be Crimes Act or Misuse of Drugs Act to get banged up..

The sentence is calculated not just on what was stolen, but the level of trust involved and the prolonged period in which the offending occurred.

If for example she had done it for a week, then come to her senses, the sentence would have been a lot less, and considered to be a ‘change in character’ etc. The fact she stole this mail for a prolonged period and at the same time went to great lengths to facilitate her crimes, warranted a prolonged sentence. It was not some spur of the moment action. The value of the stolen items is less important than the length of time.

The South Koreans host the USA for war dames every year & it’s been going on for a fair while. Every year the paranoid North Korean regime steps up the rhetoric about some perceived threat.

Only this year they’re really pissed because the economic sanctions imposed means they can’t even feed their army properly. With ten generals looking over his shoulder my guess is that the podgy bastard with the poor hair cut is more than happy to give them something that will keep them distracted & busy.

Larry Williams asked David Sheaerr about Labours proposed CGT on business tonight. He was totally fucked he couldn’t articulate his own policy he stumbled, he bumbled and just plain forgot stuff I was just about feeling sorry for him after laughing that hard I nearly drove off the road.

The Danish MP has a valid point. The Turks banned the haka from Anzac Cove on the grounds that they found is obscene and offensive. I’m a New Zealander and I find it to be a rather stupid indulgence for the benefit of Maori. Most of the cultures around the world actually welcome visitors with smiles and hand shakes or this case of Polynesian’s by rowing out in canoes to greet them and waves and smiles, I’m not sure why maori can’t try to be a little more friendly rather than being so aggressive.
