Reid , that argument is not original nor very clever. You could replace god with the tooth fairy (or any other thing) and it would change nothing. No matter how improbable the existence of life is, it does not prove god and in no way supports your version of god. To avoid confusion, evolutionary science has nothing to do with the existence of god. As matter of fact I was an atheist for a very long time before I was convinced by the theory of evolution. Also many Christians accept evolution as fact.

Marni Sheppeard has posted to kiwiblog under the name Kea before, quite a few years ago. Her behaviour on a physics blog earlier this year also confirms it. Another physics blog has publicly accused Sheppeard of being a troll. And statistically – kiwiblog Kea is half-syrian and into mountaineering, Marni has a middle-eastern first name and is also into mountaineering – what are the chances of two such people in the NZ blogosphere?

Lucy, spend two minutes googling before you write. It was done like that.

Yes, there will be some instances where Christianity is forced, just like there will be some evil child raping priests and Christians that go off the rails and become homocidal axe-weilding maniacs. However, there is nothing in Christianity that condones forced conversion, and again, you will not find any Christian today (unless they are mentally unwell, or a psychopath) that says a person should be killed for leaving Christianity.

I even gave you links yesterday.

Had a look, can’t find any links you gave me yesterday apart from Wikipedia one about the Philippines and Islam.

Christians have a long history of forced conversion and the Catholics are the worst of all. How do you think your religion got from the Middle East to infect the globe ? It was not by love and charity I can tell you that much.

I read history, Kea, obviously better than you do. Why don’t you pick several instances forced conversion and we can discuss them?

No one gets as exercised about the flying spaghetti monster or santa claus, because everyone knows that they aren’t real, so there are never any serious discussions about them being real. Reid, read a book or listen to a few youtube debates. There are many others who can explain it all better than me. If you can not be bothered looking, then you are unlikely to accept what I say anyway.

If he is saying that sort of thing happens and doesn’t necessarily harm the child I agree with him. You could back that up empirically? That doesn’t mean that people aren’t harmed (especially when under the adults control and it goes on and on) but it doesn’t mean that everyone who is molested needs counselling.

Or by giving you a philosophical explanation for the existence of God, which you did kind of ask for. Not quite a proof, but close enough.

No comment about the murder of those that would dare to apotacise from Islam? There was a survey done a few years back on Islamic countries, rating them as very moderate if only 5% of the population wanted death to apostates. I think Turkey might have been down that low, from memory. Some of the others were pretty scary, at like 80% or so of the population.

So, you could be this female physicist, huh? That kind of explains why you’re starting to emulate some of my posting style. Yes, I’ve noticed. Hard not to.

You say that like it’s an accusation, chiz. And as for the interview, that’s why I told Kea to read the book and argue from that.

Bill Gates says DNA is like a software program, but much more complex than everything we’ve ever written. Richard Dawkins acknowledges that it’s a machine code. Leroy Hood, a famous scientist out in Seattle, works in the biotech industry, calls it digital code. This is pretty well accepted. There’s only a few people that have tried to quibble about that, and I address that in the book.

So are you denying those three people said those things? And if DNA is machine code, then what does that say to you, about the probability it came about by mere random chance from the primordial soup?

Perhaps you’d care to argue merely that Windows 3.0 came about by accident from the primordial soup? You might find that an easier proposition. After all, it’s only Windows 3.0, it’s hardly DNA, is it. So go ahead chiz. What’s the probability of that happening, by sheer random chance?

The good thing about principles Kea is that everyone knows them when they see them and conversely sees the lack of them when someone doesn’t have them. And that has nothing to do with intelligence or perspicacity. It has to do with the human condition. And I daresay hardly anyone here mate would allege you were a man of principle.

If you started listening more and saying less, I daresay one or two might change their minds. But you need to drop your ego for that and I’m not sure from my reading of you, that you’re yet mature enough to consider doing that.

A Law Commission proposal for a single, independent watchdog for broadcasting, print, and online news has been rejected by the Government.

Justice Minister Judith Collins said the Government had decided not to establish a “one-stop-shop” media regulator, which would have merged the existing Press Council, Broadcasting Standards Authority and Online Media Standards Authority.

Ms Collins said the Law Commission’s review, unlike reviews in the UK and Australia, was not prompted by a crisis in confidence in mainstream media, and there was no pressing need for changes.

“We expect that print and online media outlets will continue to strengthen their self-regulation while the Broadcasting Standards Authority will retain its responsibility for TV and radio under the Broadcasting Act.”

I am appalled by their suspension of reason and the easy way they dismiss evidence to create an alternative world based on what they want to believe.
