Thanks Griff, that seems right. I think he means progressive as in the opposite to conservative, but both terms are so broad it is a little like calling Reddy retarded iknstead of normal – correct enough but lacking in the specific definition of the affecting pathology.

IVF for married couples is also immoral.

Because if that’s the case, then is it just possible, even a little bit, that in the absence of one single defining document/book/text/scroll in which everyone, everywhere, with no exceptions, believes 100% and acts accordingly without fail, that it’s possible to have a differing opinion of that very thing which may or may not be a political belief? Or is that just mental and we are all doomed unless we agree that one person, unelected, holds the truth that we must all follow or be doomed to an eternity of getting on with life.

Sidey, religion has always been used and encouraged for political reasons. Church and state have been entwined throughout history. We see Islam today held up as a counter to perceived Western hegemony and as a rallying point for those who feel dispossessed. We saw the Church actively support the holocaust in Croatia to bring about a Catholic controlled state. Through out Europe we saw hundreds of thousands put to death in the most hideous ways for not supporting the Catholic church, which backed the authority of various kings and other unelected despots.

The number of atheists rise in stable decent democratic countries and the number of theists rise in shit holes. The less religion you have the better things are. The more religion you have the worse they are, but then people turn to superstition to make their miserable lives bearable.

The church has always thrived on misery.

The Tea Party are a deranged bunch of losers who do not have the support of most Americans. They are playing chicken with the US economy because they cannot handle that they lost. Even some members of the Republican party know how looney this faction of their party has become.

The Tea Party began as a reaction to out of control government spending under Bush. It has united people on both right and left. Those on the right are typically disgusted at the Republican party, perhaps more-so than at the Democrats since “their” party is the one that’s supposed to know better. They’re certainly frustrated and seem to believe that mere party politics are not going to save the day. They seem to feel the entire political class is a corrupt machine acting against the interests of the country. IOW, the Tea Party is concerned about much more than which party wins or loses.

There wasn’t a any rape victim, Kea. Consent was implied by not calling for help when there were people around.

Same with dealing with police, if they say something which defames you (eg they call you a person) and you don’t say anything against it, then you have implicitly consented and the police can’t be brought to account.

One fine day, a bus driver went to the bus garage, started
his bus, and drove off along the route. No problems for the
first few stops. A few people got on, a few got off, and
things went generally well. At the next stop, however, a
big hulk of a guy got on. Six feet eight, built like a
wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the
driver and said, “Big John doesn’t pay!” and sat down at
the back. The driver was five three,
thin, and basically meek? Naturally, he didn’t argue with
Big John, but he wasn’t happy about it.

The next day the same thing happened. Big John got on again,
made a big show of refusing to pay, and sat down. And the
next day, and the one after that, and so forth. This grated
on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way Big
John was taking advantage of him.

Finally, he could stand it no longer. He signed up for body
building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff. By
the end of the summer, he had become quite strong; what’s
more, he felt really good about himself. So on the next
Monday, when Big John once again got on the bus and said,
“Big John doesn’t pay!,”

The driver stood up, glared back at the passenger, and
screamed “AND WHY NOT?!?!”

With a surprised look on his face, Big John replied,
“Big John has a bus pass.”

The term is ambiguous. In an ordinary context is isn’t defamatory, but when police act as law enforcement the context is of law, and the term has a different meaning which implies a loss of legal status, hence the defamation.

Oh the inhumanity.

Yes. Humans are always persons, but people are not persons. Humans are people who have been alienated from their natural rights, while people have not been alienated from them.

On a completely different tone, just for a change, on my way home from work I stopped at a small stream for a wee flyfish and smashed my Kilwell 7556 5,6 weight Rod.
I cannot find another after searching all evening on the net.
Is there a Kiwiblogger out there that has one sitting in the back of the cupboard, I will pay good cash for a 7’6″ fly Rod.

Regarding Davina Murray.

Good post that at my last look had 27 thumbs up in agreement.

However there is a place for compassion in our system and Davina Murray did
receive a fair sentence in my opinion and i followed her case closely.

Consider.. She is the daughter of a one parent family who put herself through uni
gaining two degrees by working virtually full time whilst studying.
Her tutors at law school spoke up for her as did several prominent NZ citizens who
submitted affidavits in her defence.

She has now lost everything.

She is bankrupt, she owes $60,000 in legal fees, she has lost her ticket as a lawyer and
when the ADLS investigation is completed, now she has been convicted, may have lost
that permanantly.
She has been publicly ridiculed and reviled.
She is now unemployed and on a bene.

Her crime. After an unblemished legal career, she was conned by a psycopath (Liam Reid)
who was able to manipulate her for his own ends. (How this can happen to almost any of us
read, ‘Without conceince’ by Dr R Harre, who termed the description psycopath.)

Not only has she lost everything, the piece of shit who she thought was the love of her life,
Reid probably will never speak to her again as she can be of no further use to him.

The Judge at her trial, Judge Collins gave her credit for her past record, the fact that it was
her first offence, and the plethora of affidavits regarding her charecter submitted in her defence.

The maximum sentence was 3 months in the big house.
She did not smuggle in a loaded pistol, or explosives, or drugs.

Judge Collins sentence was relevant to all others for this type of offending.

i would suggest that a person like Davina Murray will never offend again.

She was conned by a psycopath.
We all make mistakes, she has lost hugely as a result,
and i for one wish her the best for the future and hope she can come back and still
contribute in some way.

the catholic church destroyed all copys after they chose the present gospals around 300 ad
as the earliest known Christian writings it is closer to the time of jesus than any other it just did not fit the Roman view of a woman’s place so was deliberately suppressed

I was fascinated to find Reddy recommends reading Arthur Bryant, who a conservative historian describes as ‘in fact a Nazi sympathiser and fascist fellow-traveller, who only narrowly escaped internment as a potential traitor in 1940. He was also, incidentally, a supreme toady, fraudulent scholar and humbug’. Sounds like the perfect example for Reddy to try emulating.
