Ah, a partial admission that the ALL scientists is really ONE scientist.

My Church has also allowed at least one of Her Saints to be tortured to death: St Joan of Arc. In other words, not everyone in the Church has done the right thing all the time.

That’s why we have Confession and why the Church is considered a hospital for sinners, and why all of us need a Saviour.

However I still find what Kea has to say about things that arn’t of a Christian or Muslim nature are informative ect.

Yes Reid I should probably stop talking to him on matters religious. I’ll keep talking to others about it as they arise but ignore him.

He’s tortuous all the time on this subject Harriet, just like all fanatics are.

He’s not interested in revelation, just adulation of his wondrous perspective because in his or her own mind s/he thinks s/he’s onto something and s/he is far far far too arrogant to imagine he’s not. Never mind the great thinkers throughout history that disagree, who cares about them.

He does need a saviour, but you and I both know there’s no point in talking to people about that unless and until they’re willing. You can’t drag someone to the font, they have to make their own choice on that.

But I’m afraid I decided some time ago to shake the dust from my sandals as far as s/he’s concerned. The scales in his eyes are too thick and his or her own arrogance makes them impossible to penetrate. Until s/he drops that s/he won’t make any progress in matters that count and the only person who can change that is the person in the mirror.

However, behind that is a lost, frightened person.

Yes I know Lucia. S/he reminds me of the wizard in the Wizard of Oz.

A short homily for the pious amongst us:

A very religious man lived right next door to an atheist. While the religious one prayed day in, day out, and was constantly on his knees in communion with his Lord, the atheist never even looked twice at a church.

The atheist’s life was good, he had a well-paying job and a beautiful wife, and his children were healthy and good-natured, whereas the pious man’s job was strenuous and his wages were low, his wife was getting fatter every day and his kids wouldn’t give him the time of the day.

So one day, deep in prayer, the religious man raised his eyes towards heaven and asked, “Oh God, I honour you every day, I ask your advice for every problem and confess to you my every sin. Yet my neighbour, who doesn’t even believe in you and certainly never prays, seems blessed with every happiness, while I go poor and suffer many an indignity. Why is this?”

And a great voice was heard from above, “Because he doesn’t keep bothering me all the time!”

Nick B … who is Micheal Moore? A country that doesn’t look after its sick is barbaric despite its claims to first world status. While my information is that if it is an emergency you get treated, though from personal experience there was a twenty minute wait while it was determined payment.
Despite the the state of the art the system is basically run for private company profit which means it is more expensive than elsewhere…. even with the extra case load and with the selfish healthy young contributing it would be cheaper .. but the rightwing really stuffed it up with a weak president who tried to talk sense with them, an impossibility as it has been proved, instead of putting through measures when he had the majority to do so.

Hunting ground is getting scarce these days. A mate of mine who has a huge but steep block hived off the back 3200 acres to a consortium of Wellington hunters for an obscene amount of money. First time I’d seen the grizzly bugger smile in ten years…..he’s freehold with more than a few bob in the bank.

Same is happening all over the Wairarapa & it’s putting pressure on what areas are left.

What could be worth a walk is the Aorangi Ranges south of Martinborough. Mate of mine spends half his life hunting pigs in there & reckons there’s no shortage of deer sign. Walk in up one of the streams this side of Pirinoa.

And if he can see the reason[s] behind that; namely the complete future personhood of the child is at risk, then he is obviously aware that a reasonable Christian upbringing is not to the disadvantage of any child as Christianity offers complete personhood, both here and after.

I don’t think he hates Christians at all – it’s much like you say, he’s being arrogant because he believes he’s onto a good thing by selecting parts of Christian history and then using them to bash Christians on KB.

Immaturity is about the worst of Kia I think. But then I can be immature at times – mainly because hiding behind a keyboard gives one the opportunity to jump in, say something, and not feel any consequences if you are wrong – and thick skinned. In life I would loose friends if I jumped in and said something of the bat every 2 minutes because my friends consist of about 10 regulars – not the 100 or so at KB. Cheers Reid.

Harriet, I have a mate who is a minister. We agree on most things, just not the existence of god. We have considerable common ground on traditional family values and social issues. I even took a god addled friend to his church recently.

Have just spent 3 days hunting the fu*k out of a large block up in Hawkesbay for zero return. Very very educated deer with a lot of poacher pressure.
We were meant to be first in there in 2 weeks and saw 2 fresh gutbags and lots of quad marks.
This is in a big well locked up forest. Dammit!

This is totally incorrect. “Being a Christian” has a very specific meaning.

Technically, being a “Christian” means anyone who professes belief in the Yahweh/Jesus magical pixie in the Bible.

You can be among the most evil murderers in history – and let’s face it, many Christians have been – and it makes absolutely no difference.

By contrast, someone who lives their life for others and is endlessly kind, generous and gentle is destined by this same magic pixie to burn in hideous torment for eternity if they haven’t made that claim.

Still, perhaps they can look after the hundreds of millions of children and babies who are already burning forever, courtesy of this same pixie?

Let’s assume he’s a male, s/he get’s rather tiresome.

Yes I’ve observed Kea is up on some things I’m also up on, like Syria and Israel. I didn’t know about the gay parenting thing. However while he and I share those beliefs I wouldn’t personally conclude he’s doing it because he supports the Christian perspective on it but rather simply because the end point happens to coincide with his own.

I think you’re right about the immaturity too and possibly I should cut him a bit more slack for that than I do. However what I detect is an arrogance less of youth but of someone who thinks his intellect towers uber alles and compared to the great Christian thinkers he’s a minnow, but he won’t even bother to familiarise himself with those great works because, it seems to me, he’s already made up his somewhat vacuous mind already and there’s nothing more to be said.

It’s a shame, for him, because he doesn’t realise he’s made a grave error but I also know that if he’s one of the chosen, in God’s own time, the light will dawn and I just hope he doesn’t ignore it when it does.

wat, God knows everything about you. He knows what you imagine, what you think and what you do. From the second you come out of the womb to the second you depart from this Earth. Every single thought, intention and emotion you have ever had, whether or not you turned it into action, is judged, strictly.

You need to be careful distinguishing religion in a person’s heart and mind from what you observe religious institutions saying and doing. The two don’t meet and never ever have. Conflating them is ignorant folly of the first order.

This means that it’s not just saying it, it’s believing it in your heart. And when you do that, you also act on it. And this is why – der – Christians are full of love and charity, because God is love and you can see that by the generous way Harriet and Lucia responded to my deprecations of Kea just now, as just one tiny example.

But many fools don’t see the love and charity, all they see is harsh stricture based on what someone from the US bible belt said on telly and then the idiots think that all Christians think like the person on telly does.

Don’t make that mistake wat, lest you travel the same road as Kea.

And if you don’t see God as love, then can I suggest you read the NT, and see what Jesus said. He was God on Earth.

Eternal torture in Hell is where someone sends themselves, not where God sends them.

It’s very simple, really. God is the source of all goodness. Those who reject God reject goodness, therefore the only place for them after death is Hell.

The major torture in Hell is not burning forever, but the separation from God and knowing that it was all done willfully, and that every chance was given for not being there, yet it was not taken.

If you don’t want God in your life, He respects that and allows you to go somewhere where He will not be present – ie, Hell.

Ah so that’s your point. I thought you were thinking that all a Christian had to do was say they believed even if they didn’t but they’d still be OK. But what you’re really concerned about is the judgement, isn’t it.

The point is wat, we are placed here in this life for a short time only, for one reason. To learn. We are not here to have a good time for ourselves, to accumulate comfort and money, we are placed here to learn how to love others and most importantly, to recognise our true origin, which is spiritual, not biological. Our biological body is an earth suit, that’s all it is. It allows us to interact with the world as interpreted by our biological computer, our brain. But we are NOT our body, we are spiritual beings having a temporary physical experience, we are NOT physical beings with a spiritual component as if that was a mere afterthought of our makeup. Yes I know, the latter is how most people think about it but that is NOT what we are. As such we are all eternal beings, but we are placed here on Earth for one reason. To prove ourselves worthy or unworthy of progressing to a higher level of being. This life is a testing ground and we have one option – pass or fail.

In God’s time, He opens our eyes to the mysteries of the Bible at which point they change from being a confusing jumble of esoteric mumbo-jumbo to a flowing poetry of soul food. Paul refers to it as opening the eyes of our hearts. The key thing is that He does this for all people, but all people because of free will, always have the choice as to whether to listen to it or not and many chose not to. Our test, is to recognise the moment(s) He is offering this to us and take it, for then the fruits of the spirit come to life. At the same time Satan is busily working away on all kinds of wordly distractions to try to make sure we don’t hear it and if we do, that we become overwhelmed with the cares or appeals of the world and we slip away again and that’s explained in the parable of the seed on the rocky ground with the thorns.

Once everyone has had a chance to listen or not and has taken their choice, that’s when judgement comes.

Let’s do some back-of-the-envelope calculations and try to work out how may hundreds of millions of childen and babies this Yahweh/Jesus character has burning in unending fire right now, shall we?

OK. So in the Bible, show me one place where it speaks of that happening. BTW, instructing ancient peoples to kill everyone including babies and children does not mean those are burning in hell. I know it sounds harsh, but do you know the context in which those commands were given? For example, did you know that the people God instructed the Israelites to kill took seven hundred years to reach a state of sufficient evil and wickedness that they deserved to die? God gave them seven hundred years to change their ways before he gave them over to that fate. He didn’t cause that, BTW, they chose it, just as He doesn’t cause people to kill babies today, the people who kill them make that decision on their own, with Satan’s help.

shit Nosty, I have been a lifelong Black Caps tragic, but back to back ODI series whitewashes would really test my patience.

What’s worse is that most people don’t get upset over this any more – because they are not even following them.
