This brave and heroic mother needs a national day named after her

Mother-of-six Lucy Knight, 43, suffered serious head injuries when she tried to stop the bag-snatch at an Auckland supermarket yesterday, the NZ Herald reported.

She was knocked to the ground and sustained a fractured skull and bleeding to the brain.

New Zealand in 2014 – criminals robbing you at a supermarket entrance during the day with people around.

TV3, Firstline: Paul Galter from NZEI was on this morning. Basically wittered on for five minutes saying how evidence was needed, and communication was important but the schools should decide about education policy. Which policy I have no idea. All I know is that schools and teachers should decide policy.

No. Too many named days, weeks and months, and even years exist already. It’s meaningless.

If you’re going to give her a reward, make it a meaningful meaningless one. Turf a useless sporting and business loser out of the honours list and give her a knighthood or whatever. Knighthoods are meaningless, they give them to anyone. Take knighthoods back and give one to someone who actually did something real.

Another data point in favour of all parties being green, and the Green Party needing to be an extreme position to distinguish itself.

In this case, when a Green vote is considered to be an anti-National vote, then it cannot be considered to be a rational vote for serious green policies. True green politicians and supporters shouldn’t discriminate against the source.

Remember that brave Christian father of three who tried to intervene in Mr and Mrs Rock Ape’s Albert Street domestic and got killed for his efforts? I’ll certainly never forget it.

I thought many times whether I would have had the courage to intervene; at the end of the day, given the size of him, I would probably have called the cops and just tried to be a decent eye witness. Maybe throw a piece of wood at him so he gave chase to me.

I’ve got kids myself, and my job is to provide for them and the Mrs, and most importantly, go home every night. Was it Shackleton who said ‘Better a live donkey than a dead lion’

Troubling news from across the ditch:

An 18-year-old man has been shot dead by counter-terrorism police and two policemen have been stabbed in Melbourne’s outer south-east.

Police said the two officers met the 18-year-old outside the Endeavour Hills police station before he lashed out at the officers with a sharp instrument. He then ran towards the police station and was shot.

Onlookers at the scene — who did not want to be named — said the dead man had been shouting insults at Prime Minister Tony Abbott and the Australian government in general in the moments before he was shot.

The two stabbed officers, one from Victoria Police and one from the Australian Federal Police, were working together as part of a joint operation on counter-terrorism between the AFP and Victoria Police. The operation is believed to have been running for the past two to three years.

Police say the man was involved in an ongoing investigation, but AFP Commander Bruce Giles would not confirm whether the 18-year-old’s passport was among those that had been suspended, as had been reported.

However, he said, reports the man had been displaying Islamic State flags in the lead-up to police contacting him appeared to be correct.

Lindsay, is that really Labour specific? Really, isn’t the perceived and resulting acted role of a NZ government opposition party, to try and undermine the governing party? Wouldn’t a party who opposed in this manner be considered a lightweight version of the party they were engaging in “opposition” with?

Looking at the big picture it troubles me that the main opposition party is so weak. It’s not a good thing when this happens in NZ politics.

The NZEI/ECE things that you raised earlier is a real problem for Labour (good!), and for any left wing move to regain the respect, and support, of middle New Zealand voters.

I have two family members involved in ECE/primary education, and another in secondary, at a private college, The emails and the Facebook messages shown to me by other family members make an interesting contrast. The Sec-Schl teacher (of English, French and German) is arguing that the result was expected, will be good for education, and that she supports it, and that the public has delivered its verdict….time to move on.

The ECE/Primary teachers are bemoaning the result, claiming that it will set back education 50 years (I kid you not!), that they cannot believe it, and even hat the result had been gerrymandered

Next we will see the MSM taking this up in a big way, and they will weigh in with other items contributed by Helen Kelly and her CTU. It never ceases to amaze me that the children in the media always ignore the affiliation between unions and Labour, and the fact that when ever that affiliation’s influence is in the ascendency, Labour does poorly.

The Unions did not get Lange elected. The unions did not put Clark in. They may have funded Clark (Lange relied upon contributions from the business community – Jones, Brierley, Ritchwite, Fay, et al but not, notably, Myers or Gibbs), but they got their policy wishes mainly via Wilson, and they had the sense to keep their feet out of the bath.

The fact that the unions are already reacting against voters is good for National. It is good for the country. Why? Because unless J Key permits (word used deliberately) a cock-up, Labour is already gone burger for 2017. Mark my words. 🙂

In general, house prices don’t go up, the value of the dollar which is used to buy them goes down. In polite terms this is called “inflation”, in reality, it is currency debasement.

As banks create more and more dollars out of thin air to lend to house buyers, the value of each dollar in existence gets diluted, meaning it take more dollars to buy the same house. With banks charging interest on all money they create out of thin air, it is mathematically impossible for this monetary system to last. See point 2) of my 8.41am post of why the wealthy are swapping their paper money for the real thing.

NB: You were paying 22% at the start of the great fiat debasement in the 1980’s. The “growth” we have experienced since then has mainly been the result of the artificial manipulation of the cost of money (Interest rates) to below their real rate. With all central banks interest rates near 0% in order to slow the exponential growth of the debt based monetary system, the end of this game is nearing.

Yes, I’ve been first hand to this. I wonder why it is. My impression is that they’ve all been indoctrinated, and as it is the prevailing view and they’re quite militant about it, any dissenters either have to shut up or get with the programme.

The failure to stop ISIS early,and Obbie was warned ,led to a third of Iraq occupied, a third of Syria,a couple of genocides, invasions of Lebanon, the possibility of Jordan being toppled,and the PKK Kurds calling off their truce with Turkey. (Turkey,a NATO “ally” not allowing Kurds to enter Syria to prevent yet another genocide),so that’s another country potentially destabilised by the whole Syria fiasco.Funded by states that Obbie calls “partners”…..Saudi A and Qatar.

Queenstown Taxis boss Grant Scammell and the MSM continue leading a lynch mob for the head of the Queenstown policewoman who abused a Malaysian-Indian taxi driver in an off-duty drunken rant. They obviously want her out of the police and out of town.

In my view this is beginning to look like more like a campaign for revenge rather than justice. It looks to me that they won’t be satisfied until they have wrecked the life of this woman for one night’s leer up. Let’s hope Scammell doesn’t put a foot wrong in future.

Yes, I wonder sometimes whether people with a political agenda, and the MSM, cause more damage than good.

Take for example the collapsed mine and Solid Energy, which TV3 are hammering at the moment. Most of the reporting is a mayor who is pretty much sounding like he needs an issue to appear relevant on. Does anyone really care about this besides the families?

Each and evry case invovled a bit of rude behaviour on the part of the offender. The Invercargill man was lucky not to end up in court,but Campbell blew it into a case of national importance.

The message is clear ,rude behaviour that involves protected minorities will result in charges or at least nationa humiliation.

the greens started out as a movement which has turned into an authoritarian, “we know best” political machine with an extremist edge.
The genuine and sincere people worried about the environment, conservation, stopping and mopping pollution, tree planting, weed eradication birds, water and so on, have been sidelined as the Greens Political Party has deviated from its core business and values onto other societal issues.
I think the original greenies would support whichever main political party was best suited to further their aims.
The Green Party, as it has become now, seems more drawn to urban based socialist agendas. And their environmental credentials are based on threats and judgements.
You only had to hear Dr Norman on newstalkzb last Sunday morning for this to become clear.

Just who is/are ISIL/ISIS and who is behind them?

We hear that the air strikes were surgical and sending a message by being so precise that they took out satellite dishes off the roof but left the building intact. The way it was described hinted that there is a sophisticated electronic command and control system. We also see footage of tanks being apparently competently operated and manoevered – where did they learn these skills? We know that the servicing infrastructure to keep tanks operating in the desert is complex and expensive and their operating life without sophisticated mobile workshops is measured in days yet they keep going. Who is doing the logistics – water, fuel food and ammunition?

It is pretty obvious that these are not a rag tag rabble tooling round the desert in Toyota Hiluxs pinching gas where they can find it so who has trained, equipped and armed what appears to effectively be a modern army and who continues to support it?

One News has posted the results of a poll on their facebook page (“Who Do You Think Should Be The Next Labour Leader?”) showing that Jacinda Adern is only 1% lower in popularity than David Cunliffe (Adern’s 29% to Cunliffe’s 30%).

The comments section has been inundated with people crying, YES, Adern should be the next leader.

We’ve got these planes in the RNZAF, Griff. I wonder if they could be equipped to measure seafloor resources magnetically in a similar way. They might be able to combine this with fisheries patrols.

Brash and some others boasted NZ was richer than Saudi Arabia in mineral riches, but they were talking about gas hydrates, which no-one can yet use for gas economically and which nearly everyone has offshore any way. We have manganese nodules and superphosphate sea-floor resources, and in another decade or two they might be economic to mine. (Someone is gearing up to have a crack at the phosphate soon: it will be interesting to see how they go.)

Re the Queenstown copper –

In case anybody didn’t notice, down in the south they don’t like the multiplicity of various ethnicities Auckland is now swamped with. A lot of people did the white flight thing years ago, seeing the absolute toilet Auckland has now become, in advance.

Apart from most Ngai Tahu who don’t resemble regular Maoris in any way, you won’t see any bro’s or PI’s down there because A: they don’t like the cold and B: They get a little bit of a hard time.

You get a few Indians and Chinese etc down there but nothing like Auckland. Parts of the South Island remind me of how New Zealand was thirty odd years ago. It’ll change though.

Labour Green victory – economy collapses
National victory – more Asians. Lots more.
