Can someone explain to the Greens the difference between correlation and causation

Jan Logie writes at Frog Blog:

The level of inequality in New Zealand is killing children.

Babies born to the most deprived 20 percent of New Zealand families are five times more likely to die than those born to the wealthiest 20 percent.

Five times as likely to die.

First of all can someone please explain to the Green MP the difference between correlation and causation. Or it is possible she knows the difference, but ignored it.

Also explain the difference between deprivation and wealth.  The deprivation rating is the rating for the overall neighbourhood, and not for the individual family – plus it is not just a measure of income.
