Just heard Maurice William-Sung in the Parliamentary debate about a national flag change.

He said what would we do if we were in a rugby final with what he called “the Poms”, implying the Union Jack would cause confusion. Does he go to rugby? Doesn’t he know the English would be under the Standard of St George, the Scots under the St Andrew’s Cross they share with Russians, and the Welsh under their dragon.

Maurice William-Sung also said he hoped any new flag would contain some Maori symbol, mentioning the koru.

Given William-Sung’s role in the China section of the National Party, a role so enthusiastic he sometimes seems to have his head stuck up Beijing’s arse, it is a wonder William-Sung isn’t advocating a red background on any new NZ flag.

Google’s new research didn’t explicitly mention how this approach might rank science contrarian Web sites. But media have been reporting this week that climate-change sceptics seem unnerved by the direction that Google appears to be heading.

If this ever moves closer to a reality, then they should be. If you read the Google papers themselves, for instance, you’ll note that the researchers explicitly use, as a running example, a fact that has become “political.” Namely, the fact that Barack Obama was born in the United States.

And thus, before our eyes, algorithms begin to erode politicised disinformation.

Substitute “Barack Obama was born in the United States” with “Global warming is mostly caused by human activities” or “Childhood vaccines do not cause autism,” and you can quickly see how potentially disruptive these algorithms could be. Which is precisely why, if Google really starts to look like it’s heading in this direction, the complaints will get louder and louder.

The really funny thing for me was A Watts of WUWT having already complained that having google rate sites on truthfulness will be bad for his blogs traffic.

Though it does cause me to wonder about some correspondents like Rowan and G152 who will try to
defend some scum who battered his wife to death with an axe to solve financial problems and then
sunk the axe into his own daughters head to kill the defenceless witness to try to save his miserable skin.

Air heads like that would probably argue all day long that Joseph Mengele was just a dedicated
doctor trying his best to help.

You really are a joke, I don’t have preconceived ideas of what happened to the Lundys, I don’t know if Mark is guilty or not but since the PC quashed his conviction, for the moment at least he deserves to be treated as “innocent” until proven guilty.
Since the crown don’t really have much of a case against him, the chances of him being reconvicted are pretty slim.

A blonde was on holiday and driving through Darwin.

She desperately wanted to take home a pair of genuine crocodile shoes
but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking.
After becoming very frustrated with the “no haggle on prices” attitude of
one of the shopkeepers, the blonde shouted,
“Well then, maybe I’ll just go out and catch my own crocodile, so I can get
a pair of shoes for free”.
The shopkeeper said with a sly, knowing smile, “Little lady, just go and
give it a try”!
The blonde headed out toward the river, determined to catch a crocodile!
Later in the day, as the shopkeeper is driving home, he pulls over to the side
of the river bank where he spots the same young blonde woman standing
waist deep in the murky water, a shotgun in her hand.
Just then, he spots a huge 3 metre croc swimming rapidly toward her.
With lightning speed, she takes aim, kills the creature and hauls it onto
the slimy banks of the river.
Lying nearby were 7 more of the dead creatures, all lying on their backs.
The shopkeeper stood on the bank, watching in silent amazement.
The blonde struggled and flipped the Croc onto it’s back. –
Rolling her eyes heavenward and screaming in great frustration,
she shouts out……..

I have it on good authority (from the man himself) that he volunteered for 617 Squadron and that he had not previously known Guy Gibson nor was picked by him unlike how a lot of stories are written. A very humble man who got through the war as a self proclaimed ‘fatalist’. My god, what our young men achieved with their ‘daring do’. Lest we forget.

No I was not there, but unlike you I do have a brain. And guess what, most jury members in most trials were not present at the crime scene either.
I followed the evidence in the first trial and agreed with the juries verdict.

If we could arrange a bet on the outcome of this trial I would be a keen starter.

Did you cop the evidence of ESR scientist Susan Vintiner today regarding the advances in
DNA science in the last 11 years ?

How do you get your wifes brains on your shirt Rowan ?

Do you still maintain the Crowns evidence is slim ?

A tourist walked into the hotel in a small town in Greece. She put a $1,000 note at the front desk and went to her room. The hotel manager immediately took the $1,000 with him and ran to the butcher and paid his bill. The butcher took the money and paid the farmer for the meat he had bought on credit. The farmer took the money and paid his bill at the gas station where he had refuelled on credit. The manager of the gas station went to the local prostitutes and paid his $1,000 debt. Then the prostitutes went to the hotel and paid what they owed with the $1,000 note. The hotel manager took the $1,000. The tourist came back to reception. She did not like the room and got her $1,000 dollars back. No one earned as much as a penny but the whole town was debt free and the future looked good.

And so ended the financial crisis…

Note:

I know there’s something wrong with this reasoning but I can’t put my finger on it.

Good work cricko. When did the dna, described as too down graded to provide reliable results, become brain matter? Was that during the car rally that nobody saw and that was supported by a woman who saw a ‘fat’ man dressed as a lady running in the street where Lundy lived, just in time to for him to be able to drive from Wellington and back. Sorry, that’s right, the Crown have changed that story and have another one just for people like you.

Definitely the crowns evidence is slim, the “supposed” brain tissue was to down graded to give reliable results, so no certainty that it is brain.
Sorry to disappoint but the evidence is not nearly strong enough to get Lundy reconvicted, He still might be the perpetrator but just not going to happen on this flimsy evidence that requires clairvoyants and prison snitches to testify in order to present a case.

The K-Team poodles yapping about something they don’t understand. The material mashed into Lundy’s shirt was identified as cerebral or spinal tissue. There isn’t any doubt about it.

The professor from Anglia Ruskin didn’t know that RNA (not DNA) could be identified after a prolonged period. He does now, so he said.

Typical defence tactic: get someone, anyone, to challenge the people who know what they’re talking about. Bamboozle the jury. Send them to the jury room thinking one thing: Doubt.

Time to get rid of the jury system.

nasska, there was no financial crisis if parties owed each other the same amount. No one was in debt any more than they were owed. The only problem was necessary “liquidity” to close each of the accounts, which would occur once any of the parties “received” the means to pay off their own debt.

On the grand scale, there is fiat money and then if necessary the next level QE to clear debts from the system. But no one wants to use QE to bail out Greece …

I was under the impression that there was much more evidence on scientific issues , esp the tissue analysis, this time round, in which case the Privy Councillors opinion of the limitied evidence that it heard is hardly relevant to evidence presently before the court- wouldnt you think? If the Privy Council said that there was considerable doubt, why was there a retrial? Why did they not advise to acquit.

Further to my earlier post, I have been thru th PC decision and cannot find where they all expressed considerable doubt over the identitification of the tissue. In fact, they specifically refused to pass any opinion other than that the new evidence, if accepted, might strike at the heart of the crown case. The PC determined that the evidence should be heard, not that it was persuasive or to be preferred to other evidence. PC also acknowledged that there is many a slip between cup and lip — effectively saying that the new evidence might just fall short of the mark.

You do have a tendancy to overstate your case, Rowan, like when you said that the PC said that there was a “massive” miscarriage of justice in the Bain case. I don’t recall the PC saying that at all.

Actually the PC don’t acquit when the petition is for a retrial Nookin, they either don’t allow the appeal or order a retrial. When they did that in the Bain case they added an observation that most would understand expressed the Board’s doubts that the Crown should proceed with a retrial. In fact in Pora the PC have taken the unprecedented step of seeking submissions by both sides in 4 weeks as to arguments in favour of or against a retrial – that could be an indication from the PC that the Crown’s right to ‘have another go’ after a Miscarriage of Justice is questionable and they may make some comment on that in the final judgement. With Lundy, while there is opinion for and against the material being brain matter, looking to the beginning however the Crown were advised that the material was too down graded to offer reliable testing, the Crown ignored that and shopped for another opinion – fair enough but they deliberately hid their first advice on the matter. So begin as you mean to finish indicates the Crown were ‘happy’ to give Lundy an unfair trial even though it was their duty to do otherwise, that they get a ‘second’ chance is going to become a contemporary issue in NZ, particularly because in other jurisdictions it’s one strike your out. I guess that if it is revealed that one side have not acted fairly the prospect of salvaging a fair trial a second time is an indulgence on the principles of Justice that is a little backward. We need tougher and stricter responses to revelations of Justice being fiddled with, we have the Laws do that but I can’t recall that they are ever used by the Crown against itself leaving the impression of self immunity to do what it likes.

Pull yourself together, Nostalgia. The Privy Cuncil specifically said Bain was to remain locked up. The evidence is overwhelming that he and not his father killed the family.

As for the CNS tissue, the only “expert” to contest it is a bloke from an unheard of university with no medical school that used to be an art school.

As for shopping round until you find some cloth to make your suit, that’s what happened with Bain. After finally getting a silly decision by the PC, who didn’t believe he would leave the house full of dead bodies to go on his paper round, and after several attempts, he got a stacked and dopey jury who let him off. The Devil works in mysterious ways … ss luck would have it, Power chose an inexperienced politically-appointed assistant (puisne) judge for the review of innocence, a man who said on arrival he was interested in reading Karam’s books and no others.

Well, eventually the truth will dawn on the stupid public, who have had the wool pulled over their eyes.

You know the one, Robin praying in a house full of dead bodies, blood all over his hands and trickling from his nose. The overwhelming evidence is a figment of your imagination, just as is the idea that PC released people on bail – your mate might be interested in bail, if he or she ever stops trying to blame someone for him or her breaking a suppression order, then when cautioned, continuing to do so all over the internet.

Ollie, I have just checked out some more of the transcript and you may well be right about one thing. The old man’s body must have been moved.
Kevin Anderson (who was then a Detective) told the court that when he first entered the lounge he saw the old man’s body “slumped over the beanbag”.
None of the photos provided show him anywhere near being in that position.
My question is, which of the dumb flat foots played waltzing matilda with the dead guy?

Robin didn’t have blood all over his hands, there was a little smeared, most likely his own. The dribble from his nose is because David put a bullet in his head that whizzed around and around mushing his brain up. The PC specifically said he was to stay in jail. There is no suppression order preventing the woman’s name being mentioned as a witness.

The evidence against David Bain is overwhelming. The blood on his underclothes, his prints on the rifle, the glasses he was wearing broken with the missing lens in Stephen’s room, fake suicide message, bruises on him …

Cabinet isn’t going to pay compo to Bain. Forget it.

Easy to slag off the police, they don’t always get it right, but they certainly got it right with Bain. Collected a shed load of evidence against the freak who killed his family.

You really are quite funny Oliver, the scenario put forward by the crown is “normal” is it, even the old goat here (apparently) in her book has David going back to the house during the paper round to carry out the murders, not at all implausible in any way?

Anderson wasn’t ‘an observer’ he was a detective. Do we expect no better from our detectives than just any casual observer? He was the only one who ‘observed’ the magazine on it’s edge, he was also the one who accused Dempster of knocking it over, and stood it on it’s edge for the photographs. That is the magazine that doesn’t show up in any of the other photographs.

Blood from Robin’s nose ? Purely speculative and not based on forensic evidence and facts. In Dr Dempster clinical notes and or 2009 testimony ?

Bloody hands ? Actually the amounts were minuscule but begs the question why Robin left no identifiable fingerprints on his son’s rifle .
David and Stephen did .and the Winnie case is irrelevant . Winnie’s hands were not covered in blood.

All we know is David has to prove his Dad did it and I would say that David e.g would find it impossible to prove Dad put his bloody clothes and socks in the washing basket before going to meet his maker .”

But as we well know, the crown completely misrepresented the fingerprint evidence in 1995 and were exposed when trying to repeat the lie in 2009, the “evidence” was shown up for what it was, Davids prints were not made in any sort of blood and his prints establish that it was his rifle, You repeatedly try and use the argument that “Daddys prints were not on the rifle” but this is irrelevant, due to the presence of multiple unidentified prints and the low odds that the Robin would have left identifiable prints anyhow.

The issues are simple .No fingerprints were found on Winnie’s gun.

Fingerprints were found on David ‘s gun however you may try to represent it.! Dr Cropp’s analysis of sample blood on David ‘s gun was of a blood group belonging to either David, Laniet or Stephen.

The rest is a hotchpotch of the Defence ‘s smoke and mirrors obsfucation of what is so bleeding ( excuse the pun ) obvious !

There was no blood of Davids found on the gun and despite extensive testing no blood detected from the fingerprint samples, no blood on the prints and as the ridges were the wrong colour and the prints “very well defined” then unless you buy Jones ridiculous argument that ridge definition “increases under pressure” then this is proof that the fingerprints were not made in blood, so despite your smoke and mirrors, the crown argument is unsupported by science and relied on the prosecution witness misleading the jury in order to “help them understand” it better!

this from the PCA report re Dr Cropp,

Assessments made by the original ESR scientist were of the opinion that the finger impressions on the gun were in human blood.

From the PCA Report (section 276). Note that references to trial are for the original trial in 1995.

Mr Hentschel gave evidence at the trial of obtaining five samples of blood from the rifle to pass on to Dr Cropp for analysis. He stated that ” … blood was taken from the silencer, from the front of the telescopic sight, from the barrel, from the stock near the trivger and also from the fore arm from where those fingerprints were found…”. Dr Cropp, ESR, then gave evidence at the trial “that the five samples were all identified as human blood.” The blood on the rifle [silencer, barrel, and wood near the trigger] was able to be grouped to Stephen’s, Laniet’s or David’s.

These initial tests were later reviewed (section 277):

As part of the Review, Dr Harbison examined the case notes of Mr Hentschel and Dr Cropp and conducted a series of tests. Mr Hentschel conducted a chemical test (Sangur) on areas of probable blood staining on the rifle the results of which were positive (ie. indicates the presence of blood.) Those samples were further analysed by Dr Cropp who conducted an ouchterlony test, which is a test that detects the presence of a human protein. These tests on the samples, and in particular, the area around the fingerprint, were also positive.? Dr t1arbison’s opinion was that the original two tests conducted by Mr Hentschel from blood being wiped across its surface. Mr Hentschel gave evidence at the trial that “, .. smears of blood were found over most parts of the rifle” … and “blood being wiped across the surface.,. Senior Fingerprint Officer Jones said in his statement to the review team that” … it was almost like it [rifle] had been wiped down with something soaked in blood … ” but he also agreed that it could be just covered in blood because someone in the course of a fight has been covered in blood and contaminated the gun.

You bet the author is arguing with the Court, blaming everyone else and pleading that he or she didn’t know – despite being the foremost expert (in his or hers own mind) on the Bain case. Someone that has talked to everybody involved in order to fill the gaps in the evidence. Well, he or she is not the only one that over stepped the line – which no doubt she or he has plaintively pointed out. The book was worth getting, a collector’s piece on not what to write, and the dangers of not to getting sound legal advice and double checking of the ms for blow ups on a most contentious subject. Never heard of Karam pulling a book, how odd that his detractors get revealed for being so full of it again. You seem to have gone quiet on the name stephieboy, not turning to water are you?

I would of expected Dr Dempster would of noted and recorded something as significant as signs of a bloody nose. So afar as am aware he hasn’t which would lead someone to reasonably conclude there is obviously nothing of that sort there .

But you might want to show us how your ahead of the Doctor in that regard ?

Oh and don’t forget that article/ book that says Robin 98% likely to commit suicide or is yet more huff and bluff?

Where did I mention Dempster’s clinical notes stephieboy? I certainly mentioned the nose bleed. You bs so much you forget what you’re writing about. As you already read the Di Maio report finding, peer reviewed is published, find it yourself – The Minister and cabinet will certainly have a copy if a new application goes forward, maybe you could bludge one from them. Or try what your mate did by asking for free legal advice from the Christchurch High Court after spending hours bleating on the phone to them and being told to put it writing. Same thing he or she did with the Dunedin Police before being told to go away.

I don’t know if he is innocent or not, however I would have thought that three trials (should) be against the BORA, 2 hung juries and controversial flawed evidence presented in the third trial to me suggests not “BRD”, so should have been “not guilty” in that sense but unsure if he did it or not.
I agree with Barlow in that we definitely need an in dependant CCRC.

An author claims David Bain supporters are using bullying tactics to stop bookshops selling his book, which proclaims Robin Bain innocent of the mass murder.

Mike Stockdale, 79, of Palmerston North, has self-published 200 copies of The Bain Killings: Whodunnit? at a cost of around $5000.

But the two bookshops that agreed to sell the book have pulled it after being told they were exposing themselves to prosecution.

The bookshops, along with Trade Me, had received complaints from supporters that the book had legal faults.

Otago University Book Shop manager Phillippa Duffy said she had taken legal advice before withdrawing the book.

“I am not in the habit of withdrawing books willy nilly,” she said. But The Bain Killings had not been legally vetted and it dealt with a “complex and contentious issue” and the legal advice had been not to continue to sell it.

The book has brought to the forefront an ongoing battle between the pro-David Bain and pro-Robin Bain factions in the contentious murder case.

David Bain was originally convicted of the 1994 murder of his parents and three siblings.

However, in a retrial in 2009, where it was suggested his father, Robin, had been the killer and had then committed suicide, David Bain was found not guilty.

Bain is now seeking compensation for his time spent in prison.

The spat over the book has led to considerable and pointed debate on Facebook and blog sites and in emails.

In one email, an opponent of the book stated: “Stockdale continues to prove himself to be an absolute fool, but there is a requirement that he does so, within the limits of the law and that he does not present mere opinion as his stated ‘true facts’.”

The book is published under Stockdale’s birth name, Michael Sharp.

Opinion masquerading as facts and what happened to the expose about bullying and threats, about someone called Grant, more bs from the bs squad. Someone has told me they intend to lay a complaint about the broken suppression order, going to ‘boy up’ stephieboy? Probably happened by now, good luck with that.

So much for the claims Robin was innocent of mass murder, an ‘opinion’ piece fraught with legal difficulties and considered, according to the SST, to be written by an ‘absolute fool.’

Very accurate, according to correspondence sent to the bookshop. Reminiscent of a similar story about 5 years ago by 3 members of JFRB, 2 of whom were successfully sued and the third ‘done’ a runner. Not quite what we were led to believe on GD yesterday where the author thought, after hours of whining and bsing that the reporter would published unsubstantiated crap from a fool. Another ‘fail’ to clock up for the sisters, the score now being minus zero .000000000000 for the sisters to 100 not out, and no wickets down. The 5,000 would have been better given to Kent for mental health therapy.

Don’t worry stephieboy, of course it doesn’t make sense to you. You supported an ‘absolute fool’ by assuring him or her that no suppression order existed, you encouraged him or her to break the Law. So much for the game changer, the game is just the same as always, David innocent and we know how that answers the question ‘was it Robin or was it David.’ If you think it’s water off a duck’s back about suppression orders ask Tau about that, of course he fronted up unlike you.

That Grant he mentioned is probably having trouble drinking his cuppa this morning from laughing so much rather than being in the big trouble Michael threatened, while the author still hides out in the chicken shed.

The next headline will be Author of self published Bain book appears in court crying and pissing himself . Oh what fun.
