    I learned a lot when a national/olympic level coach also coached my son’s hockey team (his son was also in the same team).
    
    Rule number one of being a successful sporting team is to focus on the stuff you can influence.
    
    Blaming the coin toss, the weather, the umpires, bad luck,… turns you into a passive victim in your own life.
    
    You can only improve if you take responsibility and focus on the stuff you can do better.

  And Winston First invariably draws big attendances, too.
  
  Trump included, all three are, principally, showmen … and the baying crowds know what they’ll get. A bit of entertainment, a party, not a lot of actual, boring POLICY…

      There’s a lot of doubt around Broaddrick’s allegations, including that she didn’t come forward for 21 years and has previously denied the events took place. For me, the most repugnant thing Trump did in parading these women about whom he has previously been critical, is digging up the child complainant whose abuser was represented by Hillary Clinton. She criticised her for representing the man and said no 12 year old should have to go through what she went through. In reality, Clinton was appointed by the judge who would not allow her to withdraw, and she did her job properly, as a result of which the rape charge was reduced, because of a lack of evidence, to indecent assault. Imagine what might have happened if, as her accuser says, she hadn’t had to go through the process. Yet another American miscarriage.

Paddy Red TV3’s Political expert, now on the American Election, said he found tape where Trump on his visit to new Zealand years ago said his financises where fine and he was was a successfull business man. Paddy said that this was a couple of years before he declared a huge tax loss. Paul Henry pointed out that Debt and Loss are not related. Henry then asked Paddy the date of the American election and he did not know!!!

I shall be increasing the pressure for the LAW to be upheld regarding transparency in the spending of Auckland Council and CCO public monies on private sector consultants and contractors under s.17 of the Public Records Act 2005.

What I expect Auckland Mayoral Phil Goff to do is to make the following information about spending on consultants and contractors available for public scrutiny on the front page of Auckland Council and CCO websites under ‘Procurement – Awarded Contracts’:

* The unique contract number.

* The name of the consultant / contractor.

* A brief description of the scope of the contract.

* The contract start / finish dates.

* The exact dollar value of each and every contract.

* How the contract was awarded – by direct appointment or public tender.

The first step, in checking for cost-effectiveness in public spending, is to find out exactly where the costs fall.

THIS is the first step ….

    It has nothing to do with the Mayor. It would be quite obscene for a mayor to interfere with rates collection especially instructing the CEO to go easy on a specific ratepayer. A mayor has limited scope to ‘instruct’ a council CEO on matters – a council ‘directs’ a CEO by council resolutions.

    Actually – I think that we’re now far closer to the ‘Rule of Law’ being implemented and enforced regarding transparency in the spending of public monies on private consultants and contractors than ever before.
    
    What is being unveiled now in the Auckland High Court, is evidence which proves how, in my view, contracting breed$ corruption.
    
    How can you have proper transparency or accountability without full and accurate public records available for public scrutiny?

      Here is a lesson for Penny and all others pushing ‘anti-privatisation’.
      The Government now owns half the power companies yet the dividend from 51% ownership is greater than it was when the Crown owned them 100%.
      And power prices have stopped going up and in fact have dropped a bit.

    It is, however, somewhat ironic that the in-house lawyers’ charges equated to only 55% of the maximum permissible rate! I am presuming that the latter rate reflects commercial reality.
    
    Having said that, as a consultant to various large organisations I am well aware that my charge-out rate actually represents a bargain to the client (while being perfectly acceptable to me). One client reckoned that my productivity was 50% greater than that of in-house staff – not because I was necessarily ‘better’, but because every hour charged was productive in the absence of staff meetings and other time-wasting activities.

  The petitioner acknowledged that some Auckland CCOs have made progress towards providing more transparent information.
  
  She praised Watercare Services Limited for acting on some of her concerns.
  
  However, she says that more needs to be done.
  
  In particular, she believes that all Auckland CCOs should clearly and uniformly display information on their websites about the procurement of their awarded contracts.
  
  She suggests that the following standard information be made readily available to the public:
  
   the unique contract number
  
   the name of the consultant or contractor
  
   a brief description of the scope of the contract

  To require all CCOs to clearly display this information—given that, according to the petitioner, they are not classed as local authorities for the purposes of the Local Government (Rating) Act—the petitioner sees value in making minor legislative changes to one or more of the following Acts: the Local Government Act, the Local Government (Rating) Act, or the Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009.
  
  We asked the petitioner whether she had tried using the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 to obtain information about contracts.

Phil Goff said he would be making savings across all of Auckland CC expenditure. Well, a good way to start would be to actively and aggressively pursue the Rates Bludger for years and years of unpaid rates. This course of action would save AC tens of thousands of dollars.
The time and effort previous councils have put into this “mad woman” in pursuit of rate arrears is, quite frankly, appalling and they failed in their obligations to all other ratepayers.

Secret Service would not allow flash photography during the second presidential debate in case the flashes set off a seizure in Hillary. Apparently, reporters were forced to use those old cardboard throwaway cameras.

PIX 11 news anchor Kirstin Cole announced Monday that the Secret Service banned flash photography from Sunday night’s presidential debate hall at Washington University in St. Louis over fears it could “inspire Hillary’s seizure disorder.”

“For those of you who watched to the bitter, bitter end of this, did you catch this?” Cole posed to the audience. “The comeback of the cardboard camera. Holy 80s drive me to the photo map, Batman.”

“We thought it was a Secret Service thing, banning the cell phones.”

Later in the segment, Cole caught a flash in the face as the rest of the PIX 11 team snapped picitures with disposable cameras.

“Whoa, God. This is why it was banned apparently,” Cole stated. “The Secret Service did not trust people to disable the flashes on they’re cameras, and they were afraid it would sort of inspire Hillary’s seizure disorder.”

I am pleased to see the headmaster of the Secondary School that Losi Filipo was at coming out in support of the young man?

I guess Filipo was there for 5 years or so. He went from a young 13 year old to a 17/18 year old ready for the world. With the events of the last year this is when Filipo really needs help.

This is a time when Filipo is at cross roads and those who make the effort to ensure the better path is taken from here should be lauded. The offence was a year ago. The clock cannot be wound back. What happens from here is what counts so Filipo does not become a casualty for life because of the actions he took as a 17 year old.

Filipo’s actions of a year ago are not condonable. He has however been a pawn in the NZ media attack of the NZRFU. This runs a parallel to the NZ media action starting 3 years ago. They realised the ‘elected’ (or list) political opposition in NZ was so weak the media took on the role of opposition. ‘No matter what we say, no matter what we do….. ‘

Similarly, the All Blacks have been so overwhelming to their opposition in recent years that the NZ media have decided to ‘be the opposition’ and launch an attack from their 10 metre line on the All Blacks/NZ rugby. As with the politics, facts don’t matter.
In addition we see them taking the side of mooslems (interviewing wife bashing bigamists as if that is all fine and dandy) so there is another avenue where they go against the majority.

Oh well, as least with this pattern we can see them for what they are….. the antithesis of diligent independent reporting.

A Syrian refugee suspected of planning a terrorist attack in Germany on behalf of Islamic State was captured by police early Monday in the eastern city of Leipzig after another Syrian lured him to an apartment, tied him up with the help of other refugees and turned him over to police.

Jaber Albakr, a 22-year-old refugee, had been on the run and the subject of a nationwide manhunt since Saturday, when he fled an apartment in Chemnitz, near the Czech border, just as police stormed it. Authorities said they found a cache of explosives and other bomb-making material inside the apartment.

    Actually I expected them to lose this game since they were up against the incomparable Bumgarner. That SOB must be one of the greatest post-season pitchers in history already. Something like 46 post-season innings where he’s just dominated teams. No wonder the Giants have been so good in recent post-seasons, even when they haven’t won a WS.
    
    But the Cubs got to him early and hammered him for three runs. I see he got his shit together again afterwards, but it just shows you how powerful the Cubs offense is.

  In a democracy the most one can threaten to do is to charge someone (well not even that – even to ask for someone to be investigated and charged if due grounds is pushing the envelope somewhat), Trump’s assertion that Clinton would be in prison if he is elected is not what happens in a democracy, nor is it what someone who respects democracy and legal due process should/would say.

        In February 2013, President Putin ordered a single history syllabus for schools, offering a standardised narrative. A new state “History” TV channel was launched that year too.
        
        Supporters of Mr Putin’s bid for a “canonical” history say it is needed in order to keep such a large state together. Yet critics see it as an attempt to impose one official version of the past.
        
        Mr Putin and other officials have repeatedly talked about the need to counter the “falsification of history” or “rewriting history”. They oppose interpretations of World War Two or other episodes of Soviet history that deviate from officially approved narratives.
        
        Mr Medinsky, the culture minister, defended Panfilov’s 28 Men, saying “even if this story was invented from start to finish, if there had been no Panfilov, if there had been nothing, this is a sacred legend that shouldn’t be interfered with. People that do that are filthy scum.”
        
        It is not the first time Russian officials have suggested that certain chapters of Russian history are sacred.
        
        In January 2014, independent liberal broadcaster Dozhd TV came under attack. It was accused of
        smearing the memory of WW2 veterans by asking whether residents of wartime Leningrad could have been saved by surrendering the city to Nazi forces.
        
        The public discussion of WW2 history has also been curbed by a controversial 2014 law against the rehabilitation of Nazism.
        
        Under this law, Vladimir Luzgin, a blogger from Perm region in the Urals, was fined 200,000 roubles ($3,200; £2,500) for reposting an article about the war on the Russian social network VK (VKontakte), the daily Kommersant reported in July.
        
        The court ruled that Luzgin posted an article with knowingly false information about a joint invasion of Poland by German and Soviet forces on 1 September 1939.
        
        According to the prosecutors, Luzgin realised that the text might instil in many people “a firm conviction about negative actions of the USSR” in the war.
        
        The court said Luzgin had falsified history by stating “that the communists and Germany jointly attacked Poland, unleashing World War Two, or in other words, that Communism and Nazism co-operated honestly”.
        
        In September, Russia’s Supreme Court ruled that the punishment of Luzgin was justified.
        
        Nazi Germany and the USSR signed a non-aggression pact in August 1939 – the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. In a secret protocol, they agreed to carve up Poland between them.
        
        Nazi troops invaded Poland on 1 September and Soviet troops, from the east, on 17 September.
