  Dylan is obviously an excellent song lyricist, but only a complete imbecile could put his lyrics on the same level as the work of a great novelist or a great poet. Divorced from the music, most of his “songs” are clumsy, sloppy and generally lacking the precision and formal control you expect from the best writers. They read as if they were knocked out in a hotel room, while waiting for the bath to fill.
  
  The award should be designated for Dylan’s nose lyrics, a sort of parallel to Mongolian throat singing. Dylan sings through his nose, and the words had to be very plain basic English – a cheap imitation of the King James version language – so at least some of us, in the mob, could understand what the hell he was on about.
  
  Apart from that, Dylan was a shallow peacenik, whose songs of peace contrast starkly with the suffering of hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese refugees.
  
  These people, fleeing the South Vietnam defeat that was contributed to so strongly by Dylan and his Flower Power peacenik mates round the Western world, endured hell as they fled in leaky tubs, preyed on by pirates and human-vulture “fishermen” of south-east Asia.
  
  I guess, however, Dylan’s prize isn’t as bad as the Nobels for Yasser Arafat, Al Gore, and North Vietnam’s Le Duc Tho, who rejected the prize because he reckoned peace agreements were breached.

I just think that there could be another twist in the tail of the presidential election?

According to the latest Rasmussen poll Trump has taken the lead over Hillary by 2 points.

The media are against Trump, they are in collusion with the Democratic party and wealthy donors to defeat Trump and yet Trump is still a force to be reckoned with.

I really hope he wins. Imagine the anguish at CNN??

  Scott, even if he doesn’t win he will achieved something for the USA political system. He has too many people asking about what is going with their country.( as outlined with flipper’s comment above) That will not go away even though the elite will try to sweep it under the carpet. It won’t surprise me to see another significant party arise “out of the ashes” of this election.

      You are possibly right ross411, but change has to start somewhere. In technology/science/business they talk about disrupter technology or moments.
      This election has been so different on many levels , it could be a start.
      The Tea Party seems to have been a fizzer but if a more centrist party came along it could get some traction –it may take a few election cycles but who knows —Trump has shown that you can use social media to get around the MSM.

  Whether Trump wins or not, the damage done to the US media by their unashamed bias in favour of Hillary will prove to be ultimately fatal. America hasn’t seen anything like this since William Randolph Hearst’s media corruption, and who once quoted:
  ‘You can crush a man with journalism’.

    Pre-internet/social media the media were the fact checkers. They were the people who had the time, access and communications mechanisms to dig deeper, find out more and inform people.
    
    That made them vulnerable to being paid off. All those lovely advertising dollars they get from political campaigns feeds the machine.
    
    They also got lazy.
    
    Now we can independently fact check everything they say, people (like Trump) can find other ways of getting their message across without spending on advertising. That threatens their business model.
    
    The stupid thing with the left (and the media) is that they never change the way they work. They just double down. The worse trust in the media gets, the more they lie and deceive and the worse it gets.

  That is the reason why emergency vehicles have these warning devices. Might as well remove them.
  Absolutely dumb decision, and apparently the volunteer fireman got no support from the fire service.

  The costs have to be recovered somehow or the landlords can’t provide the service.
  
  If the bad tenants cannot be prosecuted and forced to pay for damages then the only other way those costs can be covered is to charge all tenants more.
  
  That just means the costs of bad tenants are moved onto good tenants.
  
  But that makes sense, I guess:
  * The cost of sick people is covered by healthy people.
  * The cost of the lazy is covered by hard working people.
  * The costs of single mothers is covered by married fathers.
  * The costs of Maori are covered by Pakeha.

“The surge in Republican registrations is nearly twice the number of newly registered Republicans compared to both the 2008 and 2012 numbers combined,” the Pennsylvania GOP said in a statement, calling their gains “historic.”
Since November 2015, the Pennsylvania GOP registered 243,139 new Republican voters.’

  Yes, Trump has large crowds of excited true believers at his rallies. There is no doubt he has a committed core of voters.
  This does not necessarily translate into winning overall.
  As for Democrats changing allegiance in Pennsylvania, 538 gives Clinton an 88% chance of winning the state with the ‘now-cast’, with recent polls there giving here a 9-10 point lead. In 20012, Obama took Pennsylvania with 3 million votes to Romney’s 2.7 million.
  Even if 100,000 Democrats had changed side (remember, this is a Breitbart story) if might not be that significant.

    The data is easy to find given the way people register in the US so not sure why Breitbart reporting on a CBS story puts the accuracy in doubt.
    Anyway, that’s a huge increase regardless. As you say Hillary has a 9-10 point lead, yet we also know she is not getting the same level of support Obama got from Blacks, Hispanics and Millennials so are the Obama vs Romney numbers valid? She’s a fair few points down from where Obama was and there seems to be low enthusiasm from those groups across the board- will they stay home? Add to that 243,000 new GOP voters?
    So the gap of 9-10 seems too big. I would have thought it closer.
    I guess we will know for sure Nov 8.

      I read a post from a trucker who had spent the last week or so doing thousands of miles (working!) around the mid-north east states. He said the interesting thing was didn’t see one “yard board”
      ( hoarding/signage) or bumper sticker for Clinton
      ( just a couple of “bought and paid for” signs).
      
      But for Trump: “Trump signs everywhere, even in MA and NY and NJ and PA! I even passed a predominately blue bus on I-287 with TRUMP in block letters on both ends and both sides. Plenty of people had made their own signs and many of them weren’t small ones either. ”
      
      He concluded his post “If enthusiasm and motivation win this election then Trump is going to be the next POTUS”

The King of Thailand dies aged 88 after a long illness. Interesting times ahead for Thailand. The Kings son Prince Maha will take over. He ain’t half as much revered as The King , infact he is quietly disliked by many Thais. Thailand is currently under military rule which makes the future even more interesting. Unfortunately I can see bumpy times ahead for Thailand.

Driver leads police on 4-hour chase from Nelson to Dunedin

A massive police chase has spanned the South Island, finishing just north of Dunedin.
The pursuit started in Stoke, near Nelson, shortly after 1pm on Friday.
Later, police tried to stop the blue Subaru in Christchurch.
“The vehicle was involved in three instances of fleeing vehicles today,” a police spokeswoman said.
Police spotted the car in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin, shortly before 5pm.
The trip is about 720km.

errr… yeah, ok. That’s an average speed of 180km/hour on public roads with other traffic and not allowing for petrol stops.
Either the driver should be snapped up immediately by a race team somewhere, or a Stuff journalist needs their head read.

It’s interesting to compare your 2013 and 2016 performances:

– In 2013 you received 11,723 votes (putting you in 4th place) and comfortably above “Informal” (1,584) and “Blank” (7,147).

– In 2016 you received 7,022 votes (putting you in 6th place) and still comfortably above “Informal” (1,427) but only marginally above “Blank” (5,815).

My advice (seeing as you were only marginally more successful than a blank voting paper) would be to call it quits while you’re behind.

    It could be both of those – on top of her poor performance before Justice Venning on 6 July 2016.
    
    I’ve read Justice Venning’s judgment several times now, and it appears that some of Penny’s submissions were (if not misleading and deceptive) were of a nature that may have seen a barrister disciplined. Consider, for example, Penny’s submission that the Judge did not give sufficient weight to the fact the Council had “effectively offered [her] rates postponement” which she stated she would consider once information was provided. Justice Venning noted pointedly that “The Council has not agreed to a rates postponement”.
    
    By the way, Justice Venning wasn’t particularly interested in Penny’s special pleading that she’s made a submission to the Local Government and Environment Select Committee and been involved with the World Justice Project – Rule of Law Index.
    
    I think Justice Venning must like 3-ply too!
    
    Interesting coincidence: Penny’s 2016 vote tally (7,022) corresponds almost exactly to her Justice Venning’s costs order ($7,080) on 7 September 2016.

Thirty of New Zealand’s largest companies are committing to at least 30 per cent of their corporate fleets being electric vehicles by 2019.

The initiative represents some 1,450 vehicles – a 75 per cent increase in the total number of EVs on New Zealand roads today.

It coincides with an unheralded government decision to begin procuring EVs for the public sector in quarterly tranches from the end of this year in an effort to bulk up demand for either fully electric or plug-in hybrids capable of being charged from the national grid and running on conventional fossil fuels. Older-style hybrids, which produce electricity from their own petrol engines, will not be eligible.

    Summer it works about at about 5 times name plate watts for a panel in Auckland.
    So 50sqm/2 x 300watts x 5.
    
    About 37.5 kwh a day
    Would be about 300km a day in a car in summer .
    Half that in winter .
    
    New Zealand is ideally suited to replacing petrol and diesel-powered cars with EVs because more than 80 percent of the country’s electricity is produced from renewable resources, with any increase in demand from EVs capable of being covered by renewable projects that are planned but not yet built.

      Wouldn’t achieve much. Taupo outflow average 160cumecs, 12m increase in lake level would only give about 16MW. Manapouri is about 230m altitude and operates at about 65% average capacity (500MW), adding 30m head would only give about 75MW extra. Not much more that can be done usefully with Hydro in NZ.
