        There can be no justification for an entity as big as ACC doing such a shitty deal like this.
        Were there any consequences for the person in charge of this deal? If not, why not?
        Oh thats right, ACC is so big that it can afford this loss. What all you lefties seem to loose sight of is that all ACC ‘s funds come from the wages, salaries and levies on the employers, vehicle charges Etc. In other words from the public at large. It would be nice to get these levies reduced, but with the attitude shown by our resident leftie trougher, that will not happen any time soon.

    ACC has now paid more than $25 million for Nelson’s Fashion Island shopping complex, having been introduced to the struggling investment by a board member who also worked as an adviser to the developer.
    
    The 28-store complex has never achieved full occupancy since it opened in December 2007. A Quotable Value spokesman told The Nelson Mail today that its rateable valuation dropped from $20.132m to $17.2m in revaluations last year.
    
    Responding to a request lodged by The Nelson Mail under the Official Information Act, ACC has revealed that its former investment committee chairman, Don Turkington, introduced ACC’s investment team to Prime Retail Management, which established and manages the Fashion Island shopping complexes in Nelson and Papamoa, Tauranga.
    
    Dr Turkington was an adviser to Prime Retail Management at the time.
    
    “Having made the introduction, and properly disclosed his interest, Dr Turkington took no further part in ACC’s deliberations on this investment and was not present at any time when the ACC investment committee discussed the proposed Fashion Island investment,” ACC said in a statement.
    Dr Turkington is no longer on ACC’s board and is understood to have shifted to Australia.
    
    Comment; I do not know the Nelson complex but Fashion Island in the BOP is built like a cheap film set; looks temporary and hopefully is.

    There are thousands of people with impacted mental health living successfully in the community. I just watched the news with the reporting reeling off a list of murders committed by “paranoid schizophrenics” since Raurimu. How many brutal murders are committed by the so called sane in the same time period? With the right support people can live well with their illness. Trouble is mental health services have been systematically run down over the past 10 years. Haig was right – it is a system in crisis.

Am I right in thinking that there was only one special electoral centre and that was set up in Maunkau to help potential voters register and vote?

Is there a reason it was in Maunkau being a Goofy source of potential votes when compared to perhaps a Crone centre to be found in the Albany maul?

If so, why is the electoral commission engaging in such obviously partisan politics?

Article about diminishing use of cheques in today’s DomPost and who still uses cheques.
There are two ‘services’ which banks could offer but do not seem interested in:
1. A ‘double’ approval system for internet payments by non-profits ie treasurer sets up payments and another committee member logs in as second signatory to release them.
2. A system of internet payments to payees where the payee has immediate confirmation that payment has been made eg airline bookings or event tickets. POLi provides an ‘overlay’ to provide this service but I regard it as a security hazard and refuse to use it. I am surprised banks do not try and defeat POLi and government agencies refuse to touch it. POLi gives an excuse for airlines etc to add a credit card fee to its fares whereas in its absence the airline would probably need to absorb the fees to stay on the right side of Consumer Affairs. The system I have in mind is a bank customer can obtain a ‘one use’ code for a specified maximum sum. The customer then quotes the code to the airline etc whose system passes it to its bank to make the payment then reports back to the airline etc that the payment. However the banks would still want to cut its pound of flesh by imposing a percentage fee rather than a flat fee as with other banking transactions.
If Kiwibank wants to keep living up to its claims to Government of keeping other banks honest, perhaps Kiwibank could lead the way.

    I would not give IRD a ‘direct debit’ (but then IRD can ‘direct debit’ any bank account virtually at will). Internet banking is great for paying PAYE etc to IRD. One can specify the date for payment (ie just before the due date) and you can forget about it (unless your account is perpetually anemic).

  ANZ/National Bank service to businesses has the setup and approval facility. Can’t remember it’s name but is totally different from domestic Internet banking. Presumably it is available to Societies etc but may be overkill for very small entities.
  
  “Cleared funds” transfers are available but I think there is a fee. Commonly used for property settlements but are generally available if you have someone at the bank you can talk to.

    BNZ set up a similar service and I enquired about using it for a non-profit but it attracts ‘business’ type bank fees. I enquired about it from ANZ re two non-profits I am involved in but the service is not available for that.
    Non profits (charitable trusts, incorporated societies and non incorporated societies) have traditionally paid no bank fees – ANZ would now have the former POSB accounts and Westpac the former Trustbank accounts which small non-profits tended to use. I suspect banks would want to phase out these accounts and would use their reliance on cheques as an excuse. Otherwise if banks were serious about reducing the use of cheques they would find it worthwhile to have a setup and approval facility for non-profits.

The Kankakee County Attorney’s office is investigating at least three cases of voter fraud where people were offered bribes for voting.
In addition, State’s Attorney Jamie Boyd said, “several” vote-by-mail applications have been mailed in from people who live outside the county, The Daily Journal is reporting.
“This unprecedented action was taken in response to reports of individuals from Chicago offering gifts to potential voters in exchange for a vote for Kate Cloonen, Hillary Clinton and others,” Boyd said in the news release. “Our office takes seriously the obligation to protect the rights of citizens to vote for the candidate of their choice, and to do so without undue influence from special interest groups.
There was a time (back in the bad old days) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when unscrupulous politicians would literally drive around and round up homeless people or those who were simply down on their luck and offer them a few bucks to go register to vote and cast a ballot for the politician looking to make the deal. In some cases it wasn’t even cash, but packs of cigarettes. You’re probably thinking that we’re talking about the Great Depression here (and I’m sure that went on, particularly in New York City) but we’re actually talking about two elections ago.

peterwn – over the last two weeks I have been helping a Kiwibank customer sort out some financial difficulties. From what I have seen on his bank statements Kiwibank are rapacious fee chargers, bordering on usury for mine, just like the other banks.

The US government has formally accused Russia of being behind the hack into the Democratic National Committee (DNC) as part of an effort to influence the US presidential election.

This is of course bullshit because what they’re going to do is pretend a Trump victory was because Russia hacked the election results. Killary’s job has always been to get the polls close enough so that any mainpulation doesn’t appear to be too suspicious, but she’s not close enough at the mo and so they go to plan B.

  One would presume he is unhappy two former nuns, but presumably still Catholics, had chosen to be a couple in a civil union.
  
  This might be because of a presumption that there was a same sex relationship involved – the church teaches that those outside of a hetero sexual marriage be chaste (but then millions of Italians are from time to time sexually active before marriage, some before becoming nuns and priests).
  
  Thus is a story about two people who decided on a life of service finding each other. And the Popes sadness reflects on the temptations facing those in service to leave it – the difficulty keeping staff.

They then use the MSM to push their memes that their initiatives (gay marriage, transgenderism, miscegenation, gays in toilets, mass consumersim, low brow filth passing as news etc.) are “progress” and “inevitable” which destroys the spirit of those objecting to it.

Tonight, Lundy’s lawyer David Hislop, QC, said he had not considered an appeal of the guilty verdicts but did not rule it out once the “dust settled”.

Prime Minister John Key said the jury had heard all the evidence and had “spoken quite clearly”.

When asked by reporters in Wellington today about the number of cases that had been overturned by the Privy Council, Mr Key said: “Any of these kind of cases, whether it is Teina Pora or David Bain or Mark Lundy … are high-profile cases and they get a lot of attention.

“But the stats show that the vast overwhelming bulk of decisions that are made by courts and judges and juries are correct.”

Mr Key said New Zealanders could have “tremendous confidence” in the justice system.

“If you think about David Bain, Mark Lundy and Teina Pora, they span over two decades. People always accept that a good part of the judicial system is the opportunity for people to appeal if they genuinely believe the wrong verdict has been delivered.

“In this case, the jury has had an opportunity to hear all of the evidence again, strongly made by both sides, and they’ve spoken quite clearly.”

A spokeswoman for Key said this afternoon that the Prime Minister would not comment on the case until the window for an appeal had closed.

“It would not be appropriate for the Prime Minister to comment at this stage,” the spokeswoman said.

So spot the difference, one case involves a knight, the other a man who the crown used serially corrupt evidence to put away. What John Key said after Mark Lundy was convicted again, a conviction he is of course appealing is an indelible stain on his office.
I hope his lesson is well learned when the appeal is allowed.
For Ngatata Love’s sake I hope he fares as well as Lundy at the appeal level.

      I have no dealings with the police, never have had outside minor traffic matters like most. If they asked I would be delighted to give them the specifics of my allegations. So hate has nothing to do with the subject. On tuesday high court judge John Fogarty posted a written judgement, in part saying
      
      “Not only will the public be interested in the trial (due to its connection with the Tamihere trial), but the trial will also be of public interest because it raises serious questions about the integrity of the criminal justice system. In particular, did the Crown obtain untrue testimony from “C” in exchange for financial inducements? ”
      
      This is commonplace around the world, the truth emerges. It is doing so here. It is an axiom that you must lie and cheat to get an innocent man into jail.

The proof is the Clinton’s $120 million personal fortune and the $1,600 million in their foundation. Goldman Sachs did not pay Hillary $675,000 for three 20-minute speeches for the wisdom they contained.

What we know about Trump is that the oligarchic establishment cannot stand him and has ordered the Ministry of Propaganda, a.k.a., the US media, to destroy him.

Clearly, Hillary is the candidate of the One Percent, and Trump is the candidate for the rest of us.

Unfortunately, about half of the 99 percent is too dumb to know this…

Anyone who listened to RNZ’s light chat show The Panel on Thursday would have come in for a pleasant surprise. Instead of Jim “Lord Haw Haw Haw” Mora or his dismally ill-prepared regular substitute Jesse “Mmmm, mmmm” Mulligan, there were three intelligent and serious people in the studio: Jon Bridges, Golnaz Bassam-Tabar, and Ellen Read. This was a stroke of good fortune, given that the big story of the day was the outlaw Israeli regime’s interception, in international waters, of the ship Zaytouna-Oliva, which was full of gravely menacing peace activists, including Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Corrigan and a New Zealand member of parliament. Usually on such an occasion, the guests happen to be of the calibre of Neil Miller or Mark Inglis or Chris Wikaira or John Barnett: people who are either ideologically committed to the Holy State or so intellectually incurious that they have nothing useful to say on the matter.

Thursday’s Panel, though, was different. When they were asked to comment on the kidnapping, there was none of the normal mealy-mouthed obfuscation, or the verbal flannel (“it’s a very COMPLEX situation”) or the callous and unfunny jokes that usually make listening to this program such a dispiriting experience. Golnaz Bassam-Tabar in particular spoke candidly of how the people of the Gaza enclave have been been suffering from an “illegal siege, for nearly ten years now, that has crippled Gaza, that has blocked aid supplies, has blocked food supplies, construction supplies, medical supplies.” Ellen Read, though clearly not as well informed on the matter as Golnaz, made some earnest comments, as did host Jon Bridges.

Sadly, however, this oasis of decency was not destined to last for long. Yesterday Jesse Mulligan was back in the hosting chair, and it was transmission pretty much as normal. Also listening to Golnaz Bassam-Tabar’s revolutionary act of speaking truthfully on RNZ National had been one David Cumin, of the right wing New Zealand Jewish Council. No doubt he and several other angry pro-Israel activists lost no time in putting their views across to RNZ receptionists, producers, hosts and, of course, of Radio New Zealand chairman (and erstwhile Panel guest) Richard Griffin. As a result, David Cumin was extended an uncontested “right of reply”, with the Panel guests obviously instructed not to utter a single word, and the host not permitted to do anything other than read out the questions. David Cumin was thus free to heap ridicule on Marama Davidson, to distort, and tell outright lies, without fear of contradiction….

JESSE MULLIGAN: Now yesterday on The Panel, Jon Bridges and the Panelists discussed the detention in Israel of Green Party M.P. Marama Davidson, who was on a protest ship attempting to reach GAZA. As you may have heard, Marama Davidson has now been RELEASED from a prison in central Israel and is flying back to New Zealand and is expected to arrive tomorrow morning. The Gaza situation is a very COMPLEX one, as you’ll probably KNOW [nervous snicker], and it causes a great DEAL of DEBATE. And yesterday one of our Panelists referred to the Palestinians as being under an illegal SIEGE. David Cumin from the New Zealand Jewish Council is with us now, and David, welcome to the SHOW, and in your, ahhhh, view, IS it an illegal siege?

DAVID CUMIN: Hi-i-i, Jesse, thanks for having me on. Ahhhh, no-o-o, um, the choice of WORDS that have been used, ahhhhh, just like Marama describing herself as being KIDNAPPED, uh, or held hostage, ahh, are really designed to proVOKE more than anything, um, and I think, it’s not only my view but it’s, um, the view of more, ummm, senior people than me that the blockade is LEGAL. In fact, new Zealand’s own, ahhh, Sir Geoffrey Palmer led a report to the U.N. that found not only is the maritime blockade LEGAL, ahh, but it was—and these are HIS words—“a legitimate security measure in order to prevent weapons from entering Gaza by sea.” Uh, so-o-o-o it’s not just my view, the blockade IS legal, and I think that it’s a really important point, ah, that everyone should understand, uh, as opposed, as to the word “siege”, ah, I don’t think it’s accurate to describe the movement of fifteen thousand PEOPLE each MONTH, and two thousand truckloads of food per WEEK as a siege. Ahh, those are the numbers that travel between Israel and Gaza. Ah, so-o-o, y’ow I just think they’re the wrong words that were being used.

JESSE MULLIGAN: Okay, it was also claimed yesterday that Gaza is an open-air mass prison of suffering under the guise of security for Israel, and we do know conditions there can be pretty grim. There’s a sea and air blockade, and high unemployment, but what’s your perspective on that?

DAVID CUMIN: Sure. So, er, uh, aGAIN, I think that it’s important to note that the, um, the U.N. has found that the blockade is LEGAL, and it’s a legitimate security MEASURE, to keep Israelis SAFE, basically. Um, and so I think when you say there’s a “guise” of security, it belies the fact that there are being rockets that are fired into Israel, there are TUNNELS that are being built, ahhhhm, to, to, um, commit terror attacks. Ahhh, and so withOUT, errr, border security and the maritime blockade, ahh, the Israeli people would be in grave DANGER. Errrr, Hamas has a, a charter that calls for the destruction of Israel. Um, and I think that the important point in the Palmer report was that that charter was being ENACTED by thousands of rockets being fired on Israeli citizens. So, errr, there’s no “guise of security” here, it’s a reality, and it’s a reality that hasn’t STOPPED. Ahh, on the morning that the, the boat Marama was on was intercepted, there was a rocket that was fired and landed in a city in Israel. So-o-o, uh, y’know, we need to keep that in mind I think that there’s a RE-E-EAL security THREAT here that, um, is making the, the situation COMPLEX.

JESSE MULLIGAN: Mara D-, er, Marama Davidson is on her way home now, what are YOUR thoughts to travel as part of the protest flotilla?

DAVID CUMIN: [snickers sardonically]Heh heh. Huh! To be honest, I’m really disappointed that a New Zealand politician would so-o-o, ahhh, UNASHAMEDLY decide to-o-o VIOLATE international law, uh, a-and, uh, violate another country’s sovereignty, just for the sake of some media attention. Ahhhh, it, it’s also come to light that the people that she’s associated herself with, ahhh, are really NOT promoters of PEACE, um, there’s one who created a video game to shoot Israelis. Ahhh, a couple of the women on, on the boat that she’s with blamed Israel for the nine eleven attacks and the more recent terror attacks in Nice and Munich. Um, we know that Kia Ora Gaza, the group that helped Marama from New Zealand, has voiced support for violence against Israelis, and the destruction of the Jewish state, so, you know, it’s really sad that these are the sort of values that Marama is, is showing, and I don’t think that they reflect the New Zealand public.

JESSE MULLIGAN: Give us your perspective on the best way to DEAL with this blockade. It’s clearly not ideal for the people of Gaza, what would you see happen?

DAVID CUMIN: Ahhhh, it’s not ideal for the people of Gaza, I don’t think it’s ideal for the people of ISRAEL either. Um, so we’ve got to remember that in two thousand and FIVE, Israel unilaterally withDREW from the Strip, um, and at that TIME there was, y’know, access for people to freely travel and, and Israelis enjoyed the BEACH and the people of Gaza enjoyed, um, working in Israel and traveling across. Ahhhh, unfortunately Hamas took over, ahh, control and with the increase in rocket attacks, uh, Israel had to PROTECT itself. So, um, errrrr, there’s still, as I said, fifteen thousand people each month and two thousand truckloads a week that get through, so it’s NOT a siege by ANY means, and it’s, it’s not a prison by ANY means, but look, I think the SOLUTION, Jesse, that you’re asking is, is really quite straightforward: WHEN THERE CEASES TO BE A SECURITY THREAT, THERE WILL CEASE TO BE THE NEED FOR A BLOCKADE. So as soon as, as the rockets stop firing, the tunnels stop being built, and the threat to Israeli lives is STOPPED, there will be a solution.

      Chomsky Denies a Genocide

      “…On Cambodia, Chomsky and Herman produce some extraordinary apologetics for the Khmer Rouge, offering a figure of only 25,000 killed and claiming that the bloodbath has been exaggerated by a “factor of 100” (p. 139). They rely on accounts of stage-managed official visits undertaken by credulous Western fellow-travellers, while dismissing the evidence of the victims, on the basis that refugee reports are compromised by “extreme bias” in their selection by the media (pp. 147-8). They reject any parallel between the killing fields and Nazi Germany, asking whether “a more appropriate comparison is, say, to France after liberation,” where tens of thousands of collaborators were massacred “with far less motive for revenge” (p. 149). They complain that “allegations of genocide” are being used “to whitewash Western imperialism,” to distract attention from the “the expanding system of subfascism” and to lay the ideological basis for further Western intervention (pp. 149-50).
      Chomsky and Herman ridicule the idea that the people are “suffering in misery under a savage oppressor bent on genocide,” a notion disproved by “common sense” (pp. 151-2). They argue that if the population is being slaughtered, one would expect “unwillingness to fight for the Paris-educated fanatics at the top,” whereas the record indicates that the Cambodian people “have not exactly been awaiting liberation from their oppressors” (p. 156). They suggest that the killers “may actually have saved many lives” (p. 160). Echoing the ideology of the Khmer Rouge, they denounce the country’s “urban society” as “a colonial implantation,” which the perpetrators “know only as a murderer and a remote oppressor,” and thus plainly deserves its fate (p. 290). In their eyes, the atrocities are a “direct and understandable response to the violence of the imperial system,” a suggestion that readers may well interpret as an explicit justification for mass murder (p. 291)
      
      Equally noteworthy is the authors’ use of source material. Having conceded that the work of Khmer Rouge critic Francois Ponchaud is “serious” and deserves “careful study” (p. 253), they proceed to denounce him for his “careless and untrustworthy” writing (p. 274), his “petty deceit” (p. 280), his “highly unreliable” book (p. 282), etc. These scruples disappear, however, when the authors rely on Khmer Rouge apologists such as Michael Vickery (pp. 215-22), Ben Kiernan (pp. 226-30), or Shane Tarr (pp. 235-40), let alone Gareth Porter and George Hildebrand, whose “carefully documented” study [7] has been “almost entirely ignored” by reviewers and journalists (pp. 284-5) – perhaps because it was based largely on official Khmer Rouge propaganda statements..”

  Also, but using the correct form tl;dr.
  
  But will say,
  
  {as someone who made a comparison between the blockade on the Warsaw ghetto before it was attacked and Gaza some years ago on the Hareetz site comments section (in criticism at Israeli response to the rocket attack provocation as heavy handed)},
  
  calling Gaza an open air prison is somewhat true.
  
  They get power, water and food from Israel. A criminal gang of inmates/mad mullahs called Hamas run the place – and the rest of Palestine is separating from them to hold (West Bank only) elections.
  
  But the walls being built deep into the ground around Gaza to prevent attacks via tunnels will improve things. Once there is no longer a threat of cement/construction material being used for military purposes things will improve in that area.
  
  But economically things will only improve when Hamas stops trying to use their reservation to attack others. Those oppressed by them in Gaza need the outside world to advocate for a UN peacekeeping group to control this area so that the people have the society they should have – but while the left abandon them to champion their oppressor Hamas this will not happen.

  Why the f*%$ is Neil Wagner (on 99 test wickets after 25 test matched – the quickest Kiwi to get there) the guy they always drop?!
  
  Especially as Guptill is till there! If you needed to drop a seamer because it is a spinner’s wicket then Henry, despite his promise, was the guy to go. Neesham is not going to offer more than 10 to 12 overs to tighten up an end.

UNICEF – the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund – is clearly playing Left-wing politics.

While India has several million child-labour slaves, pre-pubescent girls are being genitally mutilated in a number of Muslim States, and children starve in several countries, New Zealand is being picked on.

UNICEF New Zealand has its hands out to New Zealanders for donations, then UNICEF lies to the world about this country like this. “Poverty” has become a movable description that the Left moves continually as a political weapon.
