  What a lot of convoluted left wing crap – cannot these experts remember that Hillary did not win the election, to the appalling led feminist media horror. Trump won in full accordance under the US Constitution. So change the Constitution then.
  It was not that Trump won but what candidates the US had to offer. Both dreadful.
  Sadly I can only see a sad ending as the left wing politicos and the media go crazy for real revenge at any cost to the US as a nation.
  They are making fools of themselves – just what Putin wanted. So Putin hated the Clintons – particularly Hillary.
  There are so many cross talks, obfuscations and outright lies being told it is quite sad really.
  This is the bullshit currently in the US – more bullshit less people will actually understand.
  Not the FBI, not the Secret Service not the, not the highly sophisticated security NSA.

    Two matters in play.
    
    1. Russian dislike of the Clinton’s foreign policy activism. Bill (and Hillary) Clinton on the side of states leaving Yugoslavia and the USSR.
    
    And the subsequent post 2000 PNAC (neocon) super power unilateralism. Which Obama moderated but not reversed, sufficient at least for Russia to have the room to make its Syria play.
    
    But they were not sure about continuity under Clinton (she backed the original Iraq regime change in 2003 where Obama did not).
    
    2. Trump’s less internationalist approach offered Russia hope of an end to western hegemony/containment of Russia as a foreign policy objective of NATO.

Donald Trump’s White House Is Pushing Kremlin Storyline

The threat to the West posed by Kremlin lies—what is properly termed disinformation—is something that I and a few other specialists have raised the alarm over for years. After 2016, when Moscow weaponized disinformation to influence our presidential election, this problem is finally getting the public attention it merits, not least because identical Russian espionage techniques are currently aimed at France and Germany, which have their own elections coming up.

The previous administration ignored this rising problem, shuttering a tiny State Department effort to counter Russian propaganda only months before the Kremlin lie machine went into overdrive against President Obama’s own party. As I’ve pointed out, Obama and his White House bear part of the blame for the Russian havoc wrought last year on Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, thanks to their abject unwillingness to confront Vladimir Putin. By refusing to seriously confront Kremlin disinformation and deception, President Obama got more of both.

The Democrats aren’t “Chicken Little”, they are just too little too late.

  What a load of nonsense. That Russia may have preferred one candidate over the other is irrelevant. The argument basically runs like this “look!!! Russia has independent opinions and foreign policy!!! therefore they influenced our election!!”
  
  Which of course is nothing but scapegoating behavior from those that had a messiah complex over Obama and just can’t quite get their heads around the fact that he was actually a pretty shit president that did almost nothing to improve the lives of his core constituency.
  But by all means, blame the Russians if it makes you feel any better.

    Part of what is being investigated is collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian Government to get Trump elected. Part of what the Trump campaign did, and this is not disputed, is changing the Republican language on Ukraine. Potentially in exchange for the Russians to release Hillary’s emails.

        No. But my mother grew up in Communist/Russian-controlled Poland, and my Dad (when he was a child, with his entire family), was transported by train to Siberia from Poland, after the Russian invasion in 1939, because his family were considered “Enemies of Communism”. And then half were murdered by starvation because they were left in Kazakhstan rather than being allowed to leave after the amnesty for Polish political prisoners.
        
        I’m immune to Russian disinformation, to a certain extent, because of my background and reading interests.

        So Lucia, you’d of course be all over Ted Kennedy for his actual treason in trying to get the Soviet Union to intervene in US politics ? And all over Obama for his “hot mike” comment about having “more flexibility” ? After all, the Russians did extremely well out of Obama’s incompetent actions over the past 4 years, is that the “more flexibility” Obama was promising ? Shouldn’t Obama be investigated ?
        
        And it should be noted, that the very worst “crime” the Russians can be accused of is intentionally hacking John Podesta’s emails and the DNC emails and releasing them (via Wikileaks supposedly) unredacted and unaltered. Personally that’s damn near a public service in my book.
        
        Interestingly enough, about a year before the election the Russians also hacked the White House email system (yes, THAT White House as occupied by one Barack Obama) and the then administration’s reaction…..crickets, obviously not serious. The Chinese before that, hacked a whole heap of confidential information on people who had sought security clearances, and again, no official response from Obama, obviously not actually important (obviously didn’t contain his presidential executive order sealed scholastic records eh ?). So on a much smaller scale, two private organisations had their private eMails hacked and released showing how much their public and private positions varied, and that’s a national crisis ?

An important article from Politico: The Road to a Free Europe Goes Through Moscow

For a specter is haunting Europe—the specter of populist nationalism. Ideologically indeterminate, it manifests across the Continent in the form of France’s right-wing National Front, the post-communist German Left party and the Italian Five Star Movement, which defies any traditional political label. While these parties, and the intellectual currents to which they give voice, may not align on everything, they are invariably anti-establishment, opposed to the European Union, and hostile to America. They are also all supported—either materially or through other, less tangible instruments—by Russia.

This is not incidental. As Europe’s political stability, social cohesion, economic prosperity and security are more threatened today than at any point since the Cold War, Russia is destabilizing the Continent on every front. Indigenous factors – whether long-extant nationalism, design flaws in the Eurozone lack of a common foreign policy, or incapability at assimilating immigrants – certainly lie at the root of these crises. But all are exploited by Moscow and exacerbated by its malign influence. Fomenting European disintegration from within, Russia also threatens Europe from without through its massive military buildup, frequent intimidation of NATO members and efforts to overturn the continent’s security architecture by weakening the transatlantic link with America. If a prosperous and democratic Europe is a core national security interest of the United States, as it has been for the past 80 years, then the Russian regime is one to be resisted, contained and ultimately dethroned. For none of the existential problems Europe faces will dissipate until the menace to its East is subdued. The road to a Europe whole, free and at peace, in other words, goes through Moscow.

This Russian story is bigger than the Democrats, John. They just happen to be caught up in it.

    If that is true, and I doubt it, then it should have heralded a massive shift in Russian society where monuments to the dead, to those killed unjustly by a monstrous regime, should have sprouted up everywhere. Something akin to an Austwitcz at the very least. Some sort of apology to all those people in different countries who were also killed, deported, kept enslaved etc. And reparations.

Crooked Hillary Clinton ,signed of a 20% allocation of American Uranium ore to Russian .At the same time her impeached Husband ,known as Bill ,was giving lectures in Moscow. Crooked Hillary in conjunction with her also ran boss ,guy called Obama ,were also in favour of the Uranium deal. There was no mention by the fake news media, saying anything. Seems it is alright when the corrupt Democrats do it.

    And the buyout of a private company went through many official signoffs. State department was one of about a dozen, doubt if Clinton even knew about it as its a routine bureaucratic thing.

        “Russia’s nuclear power agency purchasing a majority stake in a Toronto-based energy company between 2009 and 2013. The company had mines and land in a number of US states with huge uranium production capacity ”
        So the actual export of uranium was un-affected, plus it was ‘capacity’ not production.
        There is no legal right to export to Russia. The main reason for the deal was to buy he companys mines in Kazahstan. The US uses all its U ore and would be unlikely to allow export
        
        “The State Department was one of nine federal agencies and a number of additional independent federal and state regulators that signed off on the deal. Committee on Foreign Investment In the United States (CFIUS)”
        
        official who was the State Department’s representative on CFIUS at the time, Jose Hernandez, told Time magazine that Clinton did not participate in the evaluation of this deal: “Secretary Clinton never intervened with me on any CFIUS matter,” he said.
        
        Much more compelling are links between Russia and Trumps aides, rather than ore that stayed in the ground in US

The most appropriate bird here is the ostrich, as Right-wing Trump supporters are burying their heads in the sand over this issue. They are allowing their petty political feuds to trump (heh!) issues of both national interest and the interests of the whole Western democratic system.
This is not a Left v Right or Democrat v Republican issue. It is more important than that. All parties should be concerned about what the Russians are doing.

  The NATO foreign ministers are gathering after the G7 gathering.
  
  Seems to me the Russians sought to meet with him after the G7 meeting knowing this would clash with the NATO foreign ministers meeting.
  
  No Secretary of State has missed a NATO foreign ministers meeting since 2003.

    No Secretary of State has missed a NATO foreign ministers meeting since 2003.

  Tillerson is missing that one NATO meeting because Xi is in Washington at the same time. That’s a sensible piece of prioritising.
  
  But Tillerson is part of the NATO meeting in the next few weeks in Washington, so he will meet with NATO foreign ministers before the scheduled April 5-6 meeting in Brussels.

    Trump has castigated NATO members for not spending enough and wants them to do more for their defence.
    Trumps staff have made it quite clear they support NATO and always will. Trump is seeing the Sec Gen of NATO at the White House on April 12.

        The biggest single problem Putin has right now is economic; and that is because the Russian economy is fairly heavily reliant on the earnings from oil and gas exports. And those have suffered very badly from the price slump; and that price slump can be largely attributed to the additional US output produced by Fracking.
        
        Given that Trump was known to support Fracking and other related industries, why on earth do people think it would be in Putin’s interest to support that ? Clinton had already committed to blocking the Pipe project in Dakota and to placing restrictions on Fracking, she would have made things far easier for Putin. As it is, the Russian proposed military budget has been trimmed by 25%, a serious cut.
        
        What seems most likely is that Putin agreed to some minor interference, yes, truly minor, pot stirring, by allowing the hacking of accounts to go ahead (assuming the intel about this being firmly a Russian thing can be believed, Podesta’s emails – which had the most embarrassing revelations was hacked by such a low level exploit that probably 20% of NZ secondary school pupils could have done if they tried) and then simply had them allowed to go public with no emendation. That’s it, a bit of “truth in advertizing”. What he also calculated, correctly as it appears, is that a whole coterie of “useful idiots” would use this, exaggerate it, weaponize it, to destabilize US politics as much as p[ossible for such a minimal input.
        
        I find it hard to believe that Putin was so clever that he:
        
        (a) Believed back in mid 2016 that Trump would win (almost nobody did, so why back a loser ?);
        (b) Knew that a simple release of private but actually politically important information would swing the election;
        (c) Thought it would go un-noticed. The Russians would have no doubts at all that all their people in Washington (like the ambassador) would have all their non-diplomatic conversations recorded; they do it too I’m sure, why would they imagine the US would not do the same ?
        
        So the obvious conclusion is, if Putin did meddle, he did so with the intention of unsettling the almost inevitable Clinton victory; that ALL they did was release information that, face it, we are all better off for having seen; that the Russian impact on the election was negligible but the impact post election on the US political stability has been immense because the defeated side in the election have seized upon it to do Putin’s work for him.
        
        I think Putin must be laughing himself sick the way it has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams and all because of the cupidity and stupidity of the self absorbed US leftist establishment.

        (1) With oil at US$50-ish a barrel his oil & gas revenues aren’t enough to pay for his social programmes & defence modernisation,
        (2) Russian demographics are a medium-term time bomb,
        (3) Russia is indefensible if the Ukraine is on the adversary’s side,
        (4) Sanctions imposed because of Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine are personally crippling to him and to his oligarch coterie.
        
        Oil’s at $50 because of fracking. But there’s nothing he, the Saudis, or anyone else can do to change that. It’s just the new global reality.
        
        Demographics is another thing he can’t change. It’s his Russian reality.
        
        The Ukraine is something he can try to change. And seems to have done. My bet is Trump won’t pressure Russia over their presence in the Ukraine, and NATO is now distracted and splintered. Personally I think the realpolitik is Obama & Clinton pushed far too hard on Russia over the Ukraine and backed him into a corner. They have paid for that now.
        
        Sanctions are another thing Trump might yet help him with. He loosened them a little at the beginning of Feb. Let’s wait & see what else he may do there.

      Elsewhere the Steele report, which I suspect is largely-but-not-wholly true said:
      
      according to Steele’s Russian sources, the campaign was offered documents damaging to Hillary Clinton which the Russians would publish through an outlet that gives them deniability like WikiLeaks.
      
      The hacked documents would be in exchange for a Trump administration policy that de-emphasizes Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and instead focuses on criticizing NATO countries for not paying their fair share.

    Secretaries of State, embassies etc are fine … they have an overt and clear role with well-understood behaviours.
    
    I’d point more to the US (mainly via the CIA) directly interfering with democratic elections. Sure, in some cases I think that can righteous, where you’re trying to free people from totalitarian states (say the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe). But in other cases I think it can be dastardly, where you’re wiping an election you didn’t like (say engineering coups in Iran, Chile etc etc).

  Even in the first link given by Lucia above, by Schindler, he goes on about how the belief by Trump & co that he was “wire tapped” by the Obama administration being debunked by the agencies which he is happy to believe but he doesn’t accept the assurance by the same people that there was not interference in the USA elections by Russia.
  There is clearly all sorts of games being played in DC to , in my view, stop certain things coming out and to under mine President Trump ( because he is not beholden to anyone –they can’t “control” him).         Yes, Clapper said in January that the intelligence report given to Obama and Bush on 6 January had no evidence of collusion between Trump and the Russians. However, that report was focused on Russia’s cyber operations and propaganda to try to help Trump’s election chances and hurt Clinton’s and wasn’t tasked with looking at/for collusion between Trump & the Russians.
        
        Clapper came out earlier this week saying that he could not account for intelligence or evidence that may have been gathered since Trump’s inauguration on January 20th.
        
        Meanwhile Comey yesterday clearly said the FBI was investigating links between the Trump campaign and the Russians. Comey wouldn’t talk about individuals, but it was clear that there is an investigation. We just have to wait and see what that investigation comes up with.

        But here are a couple of instances I read about :
        
        “Late in the summer they concluded based on the polling that a lot of people were reading that Mr. Trump didn’t stand a chance,” said Comey, although it was not clear just how the FBI knew what the Russians “concluded” as of last summer.
        
        The FBI director’s extrapolations then continued: “let’s just focus on undermining her,” Comey says of Russian thinking at the time, which however was also confusing as earlier in his testimony Comey said “we saw no efforts aimed at the vote itself.”
        
        Then this:
        
        “Responding to a question from Rep. Jim Himes about the president’s Twitter post that “The NSA and FBI tell Congress that Russia did not influence electoral process,” Comey said: “We’ve offered no opinion, have no view and have no information on potential impact because it’s never something we looked at.”
        Comey was then pressed on whether it was “too far of a logical leap to conclude that the assertion that you have told the Congress that there was no influence on the electoral process is not quite right” to which Comey responded “It certainly wasn’t our intention to say that today.”
        
        “Because we don’t have any information on that subject. That’s not something that was looked at.”

  As you know very well, it cannot be suggested that Obama won for any reasons other than his innate brilliance and wonderful cleverness. Anything else would be racist. So if the Russians did interfere in 2008, it certainly would have been impossible to suggest that they had any influence or you would have been persecuted and probably physically attacked.

All this BS about Russia is just a front for what is increasingly starting to look like a sort of “House of Cards” coup plot-line, the Democrats don’t like democracy (well they do when it suits them – like all totalitarian inclined bullies).

They all know Russia -blaming is just plain-old dog-whistling to distract from losing when their candidates were owned by muslim petro-dollars. It’s the height of hypocrisy to suggest that this is a bad thing – if so, then why has the US been doing this sort of shit around the world? Why did Obama and Hillary do their bit to topple ‘firewall’ regimes in Egypt, Libya etc? If interfering in other countries politics was so bad – why does the US have an embassy in every nation worth spitting at? Embassies exist so that you CAN interfere in a sovereign nation’s politics!

As a dude called Hussein Obama so eloquently put it when his (Republican) opponent suggested Russia was a big threat “The 80s called – they want their foreign policy back!” to much laughter and hilarity.

    Russia has more natural resources than any other nation on the world and the majority of the world’s population, who manufacture the majority of the worlds consumer goods live in the far East and that is the real threat to the West that consume these goods and pay for them with borrowed money
    
    Already Chinese goods are being transported to Europe by rail which is two weeks quicker and cheaper than transporting them by sea – for now the capacity is not there but it is being developed and as it develops the USA (which is bankrupt BTW) becomes a backwater

The Democrats are trying to make the Russia issue their Benghazi – something to hammer on endlessly in the hope that a small nugget which will taint the Republicans in general and Trump in particular will be sieved out.

Unending harassment over Benghazi led to Hillary’s email server, Democrats obviously hope that keeping pressure on Russian ties will uncover something in particular and / or just keep a miasma of suspicion alive.

For Republicans to criticise it is pure hypocrisy.

  I think it entirely possible that the whole thing is nothing more than a contrived slander, and that there was no collusion at all; and even that it was not “the Russians” who did the hacking.
  
  General Flynn “talked to the Russian Ambassador”, so did Senator Roger Sessions; oh for Pete’s sake. So did numerous people on the Dems side. It was “stuff that goes on in normal world affairs”. It is worse than a yawn, it is the Left including the entire MSM, making stuff up out of whole cloth again. Anything is all right when the Left do it, including collusion with foreign powers, and fabrication of slanders that are put out as “news”.

    That creates intolerable conflicts of interest if he were to be employed as an agent of the U.S government.
    
    The perfectly correct and proper forcing of his resignation is one of the things that keeps people interests in foreign connections alive – it has one scalp, it ought to have Session’s as well (an Attorney General who lies under oath should be intolerable to anyone who believes in the rule Of Law).
    
    Some Democrats seem to think the most that can be wrung out of the issue has been, but Republicans have demonstrated how hammering on less consequential things can have big future pay-offs, so why shouldn’t Democrat activists keep it up? It’s straight from the Republican play book, and if kept alive will be a constant well-spring to draw from with every little scandal to suggest a question mark over Republican allegiance.

      Look, any ordinary man in the street who actually hears the Confirmation Hearing question levelled at Sessions, and his reply, will be quite clear that he answered that question truthfully.
      
      The Left loves to do the Stalinist Show Trial thing, where the victim has no chance of a fair hearing, evidence, rule of law, etc. The MSM’s fake news again and again goes as far as being faked charges against good men. I hope their day is over for good. Alternative media is around now, that deploys such things as actual video footage that ordinary people can view and make up their own minds – including the fact that the MSM and the Left are lying scum and cannot help themselves.
