I appear to understand that neither of the Washington Post or the New York Times have had the lowdown from some of the existing five enquiries into Trumps link to Russia yet.
Getting leaks whether fact, or fiction mostly, is their sales business.
Now it is Trump’s family who are in their sights to make some stories particularly his son in law Kushner.
Nobody from these enquiries is leaking enough today – let them continue to fake stories if it helps their circulation.
Hillary, Soros, and Barack would approve.

  The worst thing about this is the New Zealand MSM who suck up this trash and dispay it with headlines that have no relation to the real story (the real fake story that is). Yesterday the Dominions Trump headline (CASE BECOMES CRIMINAL) said one thing but when you read the story that line was only a statement from an unknown reporter who got it from an anonymous source, with the words “might” and “could be”

    Click-bait headlines are well established in gossip-column, opinion and promoted stories.
    Sadly, they are now prevalent in news stories and seem to be accepted by the media as a legitimate technique for triggering interest. I assume that the publisher gets feed-back on each occasion someone clicks on the headline.
    Unfortunately, the media doesn’t seem to appreciate or care that the technique is devious and deceiptful at best and downright dishonest at worst.
    Reporting on American politics is the worst example of fake news — on both sides of the political divide.
    Click-baiting is well established in NZ and will only get worse. Even pollies indulge. Andrew Little headlined his housing tax policy with the words “speculators” and “loophole”. Neither term was applicable in the context of the policy but, hey, what have facts and truthfulness got to do with anything when you can appeal to blind prejudice and bigotry?

We the public and voter have seen one poll released in over 30 days and this is election year, so when are we to see two or three polls to wet our appetite and see where our preferences stand for the September election.

        Who is talking about amputees? It could have been a birth defect or in the most likely case the result of diabetes. In the case of the latter, then it is most likely self inflicted through poor diets and smoking.

        huh? With something like diabetes, the limb doesn’t just drop off, it is amputated (I assume to prevent gangrene or similar). The person is still called an amputee, just as someone who has lost a limb in an industrial, motor vehicle, or military incident. Make sense?
        Having just one leg due to a birth defect might be possible, I suppose, be it would be very unusual, I think.

    And yet if someone suggests a change in taxation to make it more affordable to make healthier choices, they get shot down in flames. Meanwhile, healthcare costs due to obesity, diabetes and cardiac problems continues to increase.
    
    Still, National removing the requirement for school tuck shops to stop selling pies, chips and lollies is a good start.

        When I was at school (in the UK) the schools had a kitchen where food was prepared and cooked from scratch. It was a matter of debate amongst the students whether it was palatable, but it was most certainly more healthy than pies, chips and an ‘energy drink’.
        Unfortunately in the ceaseless quest for savings and rationalisations, school kitchens were phased out.

        When I was at School ( in NZ) my mother made my lunch. She used fresh bread, home grown or locally produced tomatoes and fruit etc. Homemade biscuits or cake as well. All healthy food.
        A pie was a treat once a week.
        None of this softcock nonsense having the state provide.
        And we walked or rode our bikes there.
        My kids today get the same and also walk or ride.
        Edit- I don’t think my kids have ever actually had a pie

        UK schools still ( mostly) had school kitchens. It was that budget had fallen to less than 40p per student per day, understaffing etc which led to them just using pre processed ‘franken-food’

        We were lucky at my primary school north of Auckland.The local baker had a caravan outside the grounds where we could purchase fresh pies, filled rolls and yummy cream doughnuts.
        It was usually a once a week treat to buy lunch.

      There’s two problems. National is philosophically opposed to manipulating the free market. (Inasmuch as they do have any philosophical drivers beyonds remaining in power)

      Being a now retired pie and bread maker of a thousand years I have yet to see anyone but a nutter prove that white bread is unhealthy when eaten as it should be, in moderation and with other foods.Neither can I understand why pies are considered unhealthy. Pies consist of flour, water. meat (ok so the fruit cakes and numb brains consider meat unhealthy.), margarine (which in IMHO is the nasty and which replaced homogenized beef fats at the constant nagging again of the nutters), various flavorings for flavour, various other stuff like veges, cheese, mushrooms and so on,and various forms of thickening starches. (same as your tins of soup actually.). All wrapped up and lovingly baked by your local baker.
      Nutritious and filling and full of what God made good.
      Eaten thousands of the buggers. Never been over weight, never had high blood pressure, always been a busy person.
      Healthier than the nutters.

        As a diabetic I have one most days for breakfast. They have a reasonable protein content and fat which moderates their GI. They max out usually under 400 calories which if not abused puts them into diet food category.

    That really pisses me off. The safety of NZ citizens should be one of the foundations of any party in power. I’m seriously considering, for the first time ever, voting ACT (as the only possible alternative.) There are several issues I feel very strongly need attention by National but they seem to dismiss many issues which would have been their natural choice to sort out in the past.

    I am incensed as anyone about this case.
    
    But I’ve come to realise that we are looking at this from the wrong angle (by blaming the Minister or Govt etc) and that blame actually lies elsewhere.
    
    If this sexual pervert is indeed part of the family of a translator, then I guess accepted “international human rights” conventions is that NZ cannot deport him back home because his life will be in danger by the Taliban (because of his family links to the translator).
    
    Our attention should refocus to (and the debate should be) this issue of so-called “international human rights” i.e. how should this convention (or legislation or whatever it is) be changed so that the human rights of NZ’ers are protected foremost and placed higher than so-called “international human rights” (probably some UN ruling) that all NZ Govt’s have to follow to ensure this person’s “international human rights and wellbeing etc” are maintained?
    
    Once that debate gets underway NZ can hopefully make some real changes to safeguard NZ’ers human rights (from such sexual deviants). The crazy thing about all of this is though is that every flippin human rights lawyers (cue the likes of Deborah Manning), the Green Party, Amnesty International, Oxfam, the MSM, probably even the flip-flop Labour Party, you name it, will emerge out of the woodwork kick up an almighty stink. But I say, bring it on!
    
    In terms of the current case there is one good thing that has come out of officialdom (to protect NZ’ers) …. this person has been named and therefore can be avoided.

      I don’t much care if Sultan Ali Abdul Ali Akbari’s life is endangered (at the hands of the Taliban, you say?). He created any such danger for himself. The only relevant danger that I’m concerned about is that of New Zealand women and young girls who are targets of this serial predator’s vile sexual assaults.
      
      Akbari should not be in NZ following his repeat criminal offending. I lay the blame squarely at the feet of the National-lead Government for his presence here and the threat that it poses.
      
      When can we expect to hear an explanation (plus an acknowledgement of Corrections’ shortcomings) from Prime Minister Bill English?

        Woodhouse dismissed the committee that made the independent decision, reiterated his policy expectations to his department, and as per Alfred Ngaro getting a deserved rap over the knuckles, is staying out of operational matters – because if he, or English or (Minister of Corrections) Louise Upston did give a directive to deport, it would make the potential removal of Sultan Ali Abdul Ali Akbari at a later stage much more difficult due to the inevitable legal appaek.
        
        Yesterday on General Debate krazykiwi (May 20, 2017 1:28pm) suggested the answer was for Parliament to make a law-change such that
        
        . It would be to ensure that non-citizens convicted of serious and/or repeated offences can be deported.
        
        But that overlooks the problem that that is the law at present. What I think he/she means was that we make it compulsory that deportation must take place. OK, but you will get the law of unintended consequences. At some point an exception will occur where “discretion” (whether exercised by a bureaucrat, judge or politician) will be demanded to stop a deportation that is unjust (say a immigrant version of Peter Ellis)
        
        …,and then the likes of Chuck Bird will be demanding yet another “one-off” change of law to fix that problem. Recipe for a banana republic.

  I believe we don’t really have an identifiable culture as New Zealander’s and I, for one, do not subscribe wholeheartedly to the tongue out, spitty, violence stoneagers version given to me in the media, schools and through the gummermint with their hands in my pocket.
  
  Sausage sizzles, girl guide biscuits (pre electric oven versions), Tip Top ice cream pohutukawa, gunboats and other trivia are, to me, collectively, the culture of New Zealand.
  
  We have not had 2000 years of history to build up a royal lineage with morris dancing thrown in for good measure, the truck driver from Huntly and an impromptu haka (the worst kind) just don’t cut the mustard.

Another good post by Rodney. However, there is one part of it where I disagree with him. That is being judge or a professor does not guarantee one has any common sense. That certainly applies more to judges. Just look at the comments one made about the paedophile gym instructor. It may have been his first offense but I bet it is just the first time he got caught.

    Happy, logic is not your strong point. All judges are first lawyers. You must know the public’s opinion of lawyers as a group. There is good reason for that. There is a major problem in the selection of judges.
    
    I have not lumped all judges together because of the actions of a minority like you do with Maori.
    
    Do you believe that Andrew Becroft or the judge who did not think the actions of the peadophile were sexually motivated have less common sense than the average person?

Gareth Morgan has a PhD in economics but thinks the NK people are happy. The President on his first overseas trip in that capacity stops and stoops in Saudi Arabia greeted and honoured by the King and Royal family . There concluding a multimillion dollar arms and trade deal with his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also putting signature to paper.

Now what do our Trumpists and Muslim bashers have to say about this ? Will they conclude as reason and common-sense suggest that the US has no perpetual enemies or friends only Interests ( not forgetting the President’s own personal financial interests in the Kingdom of Saudi ) .   One of the problems at the moment is that research funding is tied to publication – the more publications you have, the more likely you are to get funding.
  
  This has led to a proliferation of ‘journals’ who are less than rigorous in their peer reviewing. Hence the paper published by one ‘journal’ that consisted of the words ‘Get me off your f**king mailing list’ repeated several thousand times.

The NZ Herald/Northern Advocate have pulled their story on the pre-Maori skulls from Northland that historians Kerry Bolton and Noel Hilliam traced to Wales 3,000 years ago, after professional agitator Giovanni Tiso called Bolton a Nazi (Kerry wouldn’t exactly take that as an insult) and Hilliam a graverobber on twitter and other people and websites joined in. So what if Kerry Bolton is a white nationalist with his own views on WW2 and ‘apartheid’? Why does that stop him being a reliable source for the NZ Herald? Also referenced is Martin Doutre, of the One New Zealand Foundation, whose previous leader Allan Titford was jailed for rape and arson following a long-running campaign against local iwi. Hilliam told VICE that he, Bolton, and Doutre were part of a “loose collective” who were “trying to get the true early history of this country.”

There was a story on yesterday’s news claiming that the biblical flood was true and that low-lying land all over the world flooded at the end of the ice age when the polar icecaps melted.
I don’t doubt that the flood happened, but I don’t think it happened all over the world because melting icecaps would result in a very slow raising of sea levels rather than a sudden flood.
I prefer to think that a progressive rise in sea level eventually spilled over into the Black Sea, which previously was a much smaller lake below sea level. This was the ‘great flood’ of biblical times.

    If you were of a mind to interpret the Bible as a collection of folk tales and applied that logic to the story of Noah you would get an unremarkable but nevertheless entertaining story.
    Imagine Noah as an intelligent and observant villager who from experience knew of the damage the annual floods wrought on his humble farm.
    Taking heed of this experience he builds a large raft to transport his precious animals to high ground and loads his family and their meagre possessions on board as well.
    Noah has no explanation for the annual floods and describes them as Gods work.
    Noah warns his community of the impending flood but is ignored.
    So as you can see a simple story had over time become something quite else.

  While that name may be an echo of the French publication Le Monde (“the world”), the biblical Hebrew of the flood account (actually, there are two flood accounts in Genesis, edited together to give us the final canonical form) had better more precise words it could have used if it was trying to convey the meaning “world”.
  
  Instead, what you have in Genesis is a story occurring on the localised alluvial plain between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers (i.e., Mesopotamia, literally “between the rivers”, modern Iraq/Syria), which floods regularly. The Genesis account is also arguing that the rival Babylonian accounts of a “super-flood” that occurred in the region were not, as per the Epic of Gilgmaesh, because the gods got tried of listening to the excessive noise people on earth were making, but then they regretted it because there was no one left to feed them sacrifices.
  
  In deliberate contrast, the Noahic flood account is placed into the overall theme of the Primeval narrative of Genesis (chapter 1 to 11), where creation (unlike the rest off the Ancient Near East) is not a mistake, and the God who made and ruled the Universe does so unopposed by other deities. Also, his universe/world has moral consequences, and he ultimately intervenes when his commandments are broken and evil becomes excessive and out of control. In that context the flood account is like a “reversal/unwinding” of the original creation. The “waters above” and “waters beneath” that were separated out to form the earth in Genesis 1 come together again in an act of “uncreation”. Then God separates them once more, and commands a new Adam – Noah – to go forth and repopulate the earth.
  
  Please note, I’m not saying this to try and convince skeptics – if you consider this Ancient Near Eastern Bronze Age nonsense, go for it – but rather, if you are going to believe or reject it, at least understand what it is addressing, and what it is not. It seems to me the supposed theistic “geologists” and “scientists” who argue the flood was worldwide haven’t done the first thing they insist is so important – understand what the Scriptures they say are authoritative mean, or more exactly at least meant to their original recipients before trying to apply what they mean for the modern reader.   It is true that the Genesis flood account mentions in Genesis 7: 19 of the “the watesr”:
  
  They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.
  
  However, as per my discussions awhile ago on Kiwiblog with my good friend Scott, who believes Genesis should be taught in our school science curriculum as literally true – although, when it suits Scott he will understand figuratively a term in the flood narrative such as the windows/sluice gates of heaven opened – Genesis 7:11)
  
  …the “entire heavens” in the context of what God created in Genesis 1 is a giant polished metalic dome that separates the primordial waters that existed before the original creation above and below the flat disc-earth, built on pillars. None of which corresponds to any reputable cosmology that science has revealed – although the flat earth people, some inspired by a literal understanding 0f what the Genesis creation and flood narratives meant to the the original Hebrew readers, are trying their best to overturn that.

I flicked on TV3 earlier this afternoon and they had grand prix cars racing at Monaco, and fk if they weren’t all battery powered. Sort of takes some of the fun out of it, I reckon. All you could hear was this kind of high-pitched whining like radio controlled cars.

While I was watching, one of the cars had broken down and the mechanic was smacking the engine with a wrench. The commentator was like, ‘this isn’t any fine mechanical engineering here. They just want to get him back on the track’ 😆

Peter Dutton declares ‘game is up’ for ‘fake refugees’ living in Australia

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has given 7,500 asylum seekers living in Australia until October to lodge an application for protection, or face deportation, declaring the “game is up” for “fake refugees”.

Mr Dutton said the asylum seekers had all arrived by boat under the previous Labor government, most without identity documents, and had so far either failed or refused to present their case for asylum with the Immigration Department.

“If people think they can rip the Australian taxpayer off, if people think that they can con the Australian taxpayer, then I’m sorry, the game’s up,” he said. “They need to provide the information, they need to answer the questions and then they can be determined to be a refugee or not.”

The asylum seekers have now been given until October 1 to lodge an application for processing or they will be cut off from Government payments, subject to removal from Australia, and banned from re-entering the country.

I wonder what our immigration minister thinks of this firm no-nonsense approach.

And while it is illegal to contribute to anything to do with a U.S election from overseas, it’s not illegal to donate to a foundation. That’s why everyone was so suspicious of the Clinton Foundation, which should be investigated.

For those interested in IT/business development there is a program on CNBC called “The Brave Ones”
This week it has been about Sebastian Thrun (sp?) who is has worked at Google ( was behind the Google Maps street view development ) and also it’s driverless car development, taught AI at Stanford and now has a start up online university/polytech development ( not a new idea and says he was motivated by seeing the guy behind the Khan Institute give TED talk).
Well worth watching if it is repeated.

Did any one see the over weight heifer on TV Three tonight complaining about not getting a knee replacement despite being on the list for the past two or three years. The Hospitals won’t do this operation with people that are we’ll over weight for several reasons and the media know that so why should they be pimping people that have weight problems without finding out the facts. I actually had to lose five kilo before they would do mine and my weight was only 87k which was made me overweight for my height. This was a hit on the Health MInister by TV Three and the Union economist Bill Roseburg.

What if Saudi Arabia’s decades long focus on spreading fundamentalist Islam throughout the world (and particularly the west) is in fact a clever plan by the House of Saud’s to develop a larger income stream independent of oil.

More fundamentalist Muslims (not just loosely affiliated) in the richer parts of the world will let them exploit the Haj pilgrims for greater income long into the future to keep Saudi Arabia afloat. Spread of fundamentalism is bad for the world but good for Saudi Arabia.
