Lefties out of control in Wellington

WCC funded Artsplash decided to remove references to Israel in some songs from the musical Joseph to “make it simpler for the children”.

Sir Tim Rice has now got involved as he pointed out they didn’t have permission to change the words.

So rather than reinstate the original lyrics as any normal person would the organiser (Mary Pitchard) has dropped all three Joseph songs claiming it is too hard.

So it is now simpler for children to not speak the word “Israel” even in a historical context? Are Jews even welcome at these council funded events? What are the background of the children who needed the songs to be “simpler”?

    While I have little time for Chuck, its fair to say that Banks has tossed a lot of crap at others for many years, especially when on radio and about solo mothers, so he is just as despicable. That he had a tough upbringing is not a lot of difference from thousands of others of the same generation. Most didn’t behave the way Banks did.
    
    The guy looks like Banks and Banks does himself little kudos for behaving the way he does.
    From the mum’s description it seems to me to be almost a forgone that Banks knew about the boy, just wasn’t able to reconcile that with himself.
    Sad really. If money is the issue than Banks could sort that easily enough.
    sooner or later a DNA is going to get done. Not hard to get the needed hair or spit whatever.
    Still his problem and not ours.

    The fact that this comes out of the woodwork 30 plus years after the fact smells of leftist rabble rousing – why should he have to have his privacy breached and submit to testing. What happens if there is 10 or 20 or 50 idiots claiming Bill English is the parent of their lovechild? Should he submit to 50 DNA tests?
    
    Next thing you know we’ll have Labour after their defeat in the General Election this September calling for the same sort of violence that the Dems are shouting for in the US. We’ll have black shirt antifa thugs here protesting about English’ spaghetti pizza, someone like Lizzie Marvelly will be photographed holding a bleeding Bill Engish head and Gerry Brownlie will be shot at the annual Parliamentary pie-eating contest!

    No test is required. It’s a civil matter between some unknown and Banks. It’s his life no ours.
    
    A further issue is that the opposing party may be on legal aid and Banks having to personally meet the costs of defence. The law can be rough when justice is needed.

      Not in those days. Babies born out of wedlock were often just taken away a birth and the mother had little say.
      In those days there was no benefits like the DPB so no questions were asked and if the mother declined to name the father for whatever reason then nothing was done.     Why this grown man would demand to be acknowledged by another grown man who has no interest in him, begs belief.
    
    As someone born out of wedlock and have never met my biological father, although my mother let me know who he was, I never saw the point of tracking him down. He knew of my existence and never felt the need to make contact. And I doubt any of his legitimate children know of my existence. He’s probably dead now and my life is what it is because it’s what it is.
    
    If Banks is his father? Let him wallow in his hypocrisy. But even if he acknowledges paternity, all it will raise is more questions. Let it go, man.

        How do the children feel to know the man who could possibly, in my opinion is their grandfather, wants nothing to do with them? You can tell your kids their lineage. At the end of the day it’s who loves them that matter.

        I am a keen genealogist, and I have found a few fairly brutal men in the family tree, but at least virtually all my direct male forebears had the decency to stick around and support their wives and kids.
        Western civilization is based on men doing their duty and supporting the next generation.
        Banks makes out he’s so marvellous/ fit to lead us…..he can step up and take responsibility for his own flesh and blood the same way other men do.

      A wise Maori Lady who was a tenant of mine told me this one day many years ago.
      “As a Maori you nearly always know who your mother is, (but not always as babies are given for various reasons, not always altruistic), BUT you often will never know who your father is.”
      
      My experience with many confirms that’s so and it also happens to others. Maori girls especially seem prone to being given to others. Nothing, it seems, takes away the want to know and if you were to watch the various programs where people are untied with their parent or family member you would see the real emotions involved.
      Everyone is different but those lost all seem to share the same emotions.
      
      One can also see this where families have separated.
      Indeed these days many Maori want to know their lineage. Obvious reasons for that. Most often quoted as being entitlements to assets or money.

        Most Polynesian cultures are very sexist and the males do not feel duty-bound to support their children as in the West.
        Look around the world and all these sexist cultures are poor.
        The West is the most advanced because they do not abandon and abuse their children and their children’s mothers to the degree of other cultures.

  This case shines a light on a painful and shameful aspect of our social history.
  In the 60’s, the maternity wards of NZ were overflowing with babies needing adoption.
  The mother of this man says she was going to have her son adopted but a home could not be found, so she kept him.
  How many thousands of NZ children suffered from being put out for adoption, and their mothers suffered from giving them up?
  All because of selfish males who wouldn’t man up like decent men did.
  Now the chickens have come home to roost for one such selfish man.
  He deserves to face the music, as do no doubt hundreds of males of his generation.
  That he is arrogant enough to resist the simple solution to resolving this problem, speaks volumes.

So Heather du Plessis-Allan thinks that we should have a Political Party that will go back in time and follow the example of Helen Clark and Labour and bribe the young voter to encourage them to vote. What will Journalists do to try and change the government and how low will they stoop to achieve their goal. Interest free Student loans have cost this country millions with write offs and defaulters and the Media want to encourage policy like this to get the no hoppers out to vote. Voters should be very wary if a Opposition Party decides to add to the National Party Welfare budget with a bribe like Student Loans to get people out to vote.

  I thought that article by young Heather was full of self serving half truths. For example she mentioned that Labour did well with the youth vote in the UK, but didn’t mention they also did well amongst the middle aged. There was also no mention of the incredible French elections.

Good on them – it is great venue and provides employment for the Hotel staff too.

    The fact still remains – Turkey’s “model” Islamic democracy is dead and it’s right on Europe’s doorsteps and Erdogan is shameless about his plans to inject more muslim refugee cancer into Europe!

No they haven’t opened the tunnel, got delayed due to software. Two more weeks.

Ahem.

This tunnel will have to have traffic lights from the south and the western entrances (you can’t have queues in a tunnel due to safety reasons, traffic must be able to flow).

So for traffic heading east on the North Western motorway in the mornings, I predict even worse congestion than experienced by those poor sods now, as the queues will start to form about 6.30 a.m.

In the evening, commuters heading north west through the tunnel will also face delays because at about 4.30 pm the north western motorway completely jams until after 6.30 pm.

I think it’s going to be interesting.

  My understanding is that the tunnel was not expected to be completed till the new year. Got to allow some leeway at the testing stages. If it is software driven it can take some getting right. Refer payroll testing live.

I see looking back at your various comments on KB, that you have been spewing forth your usual shit. I must admit it was a pleasant change to talk to people out in the farming community that are really really positive about the country’s future. It’s a bit of a letdown to come back here and see nothing has changed. You need to get out more and see the positive side of life in NZ. Maybe you can ask your sky fairy for positive guidance instead of your continual daily head banging. It is obviously having a detrimental affect on your mental state of mind.

I posted a comment last week about Matt McCarten having left Labour the run the project to get the missing million to vote and was Labour still funding hi s wages. Well now there is some suggesting the Unions are funding this on behalf of Labour with the message the same to change the Government. Surely this should be looked at because this is a very big Donation that should be declared so the voter can see who is running the policy of the Labour Party.

      That is particularly noticeable in Auckland where the average price in May was below the average in May 2016, for the first time since sales started declining late last year.
      
      The average price of Auckland homes sold by Harcourts in May was $947,809 which was well below the $1,024,317 benchmark set in April this year, and down 0.7% compared to May last year.
      
      In Christchurch the slide in price has been even more severe, with May’s average sale price of $498,370 down 10% compared to the average price of $553,114 in May last year.
      
      “Vendors are starting to adjust their expectations when it comes to prices,” Kennedy said.

The gig is up when prices stop rising, not when they start falling. In Chch I am seeing huge amounts of stock coming to market, mostly low end, clearly investors trying to get rid of investment properties now they are struggling to rent them at prices to cover their escalating mortgage costs. Stock is at the highest its ever been (across the 14 suburbs, and price brackets that I monitor) and its June, when it should be at its lowest.   It was an interesting programme, Maggy. But, to me, it reflected the socialist sentiment of entitlement that Radio NZ’s Labour Programme sometimes projects. An entitlement for facilities and help to be come out of the taxpaying community.
  
  We’ve picked up many sports from other cultures without the country being expected to “cater” for the minorities who might be interested in them.
  
  We have polo from India or thereabouts centuries ago, and I’ve read that badminton comes from a game British soldiers played in India.
  
  Surfing’s come from Hawaii, and karate and other martial sports from Japan have been widely taken up, outpacing in NZ popularity ice hockey from Canada and Australian Rules football, but with nowhere near the following here of basketball from America.
  
  I see kabaddi was a demonstration sport at the 1936 Olympic Games. The clips of it on Youtube seem to show a fairly slow sport, and it looks to be for guys only in the way I suspect sumo wrestling is.
  
  If new minorities want these sports, let them provide the organisation and facilities, and win a popular following.

  It was the longest haka I’ve seen, and the first time I’ve seen rugby players brandish weapons as part of the choreography.
  
  The time spent on rehearsing the haka might have been better spent practising rugby.
  
  Someone knowledgeable might be able to tell us whether haka were designed to incite rather than to terrify.
  
  An old soldier told me Maori had developed pa defences almost impervious to attack in pre-gunpowder, pre-cannon days, and raiding war parties would dance the haka to try to incite the warriors within a pa to come out and fight.

New footage from inside the Pike River mine appears to contradict official reports that the 2010 explosions caused a raging inferno that would have destroyed everything inside.

Labour leader Andrew Little said the new footage provided a compelling reason to allow re-entry into the mine. “I have committed to safe re-entry of Pike and we’ll clear the technicalities that the Government hides behind instead of providing the leadership the families so desperately need.”

I’ve been watching this video – very dry for non-lawyers – about a skirmish between 3 Australian government ministers and an appeal court.

Background:

Three Coalition Government ministers have withdrawn some statements but refused to apologise to the Victorian Court of Appeal for criticising the state’s judiciary over terrorism sentences. Human Services Minister Alan Tudge, Health Minister Greg Hunt and Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar have been asked to explain why they should not be charged with contempt of court, over comments they made in an article published in The Australian newspaper on Tuesday.

Short summary: The 3 government ministers (represented by the Solicitor-General) retracted comments relating to “hard-left activist judges” but didn’t apologise for anything else they said. The judges are angry but life must go on!

  Judges all over the Westminster world need to be told contempt of them is not contempt of court.
  
  The political conventi0n of not criticising judges because they’re not able to defend themselves needs to be adjusted.
  
  We are no longer children who need judicial fathers to explain things to us.
  
  The faith in the Westminster system will not collapse if open criticsm becomes rife.
  
  There’s significant reforms that need to be made but to date, we have no politicians in the line of succession to the legal portfolios on either side, with the foresight and insight even to recognise such is required. Finlayson’s arrogant attitude for instance is part of the problem, not the solution. And he’s not alone.
  
  But if reforms are not made then increasingly the legal system will be perceived as anachronistic, out of touch, harsh, ruthless and uncaring.
  
  There is a window of about ten years before this sentiment starts showing up in public polls. By the time it shows, it’s already too late to change it.
  
  And once it takes hold it will threaten the whole legal profession.

    Unlike Stephieboy, I’ve watched the full 90-minute video and considered the exchange between the lawyers and the judges. The judges were clearly irritated about published statements like “hard-left activist judges”, “ideological experiments” and “judges being divorced from reality”. But a lot of time was taken up by the distinction between retraction and an apology – and, as the media publisher’s lawyer pointed out, they can’t retract a message that they never endorsed in the first place. In my view, it’s a bit of a stretch to say that the comments (by themselves) would undermine public confidence in the judiciary, but the ministers (properly advised) should have expressed themselves in less colourful terms.

      Yes I agree sub judice cases should be off limits to political critique but as I say, I don’t think the current regime satisfies latent demand as I see it developing in this new information age and these rules need adjustment.
      
      What especially irks personally is incompetence and corruption disguised. As it currently is. That’s not acceptable and every other profession gets dragged over PUBLIC coals when members get out of line in those areas so it seems extraordinarily precious to exclude the judiciary from becoming subject to it, as and when its warranted.
      
      Currently you can’t trust the media or politicians or the police to do their jobs in this area and one example in addition to the two judges I gave the other day, are those two individuals in Banks case, who lied to the court. Those two should have lost their practicing certificates and been publicly excoriated and if they worked in any other profession other than the one they are in, they would have been.
      
      But one remains at his post and the other was allowed to quietly resign no doubt with full pension.
      
      Not acceptable.
      
      And people like those, as well as judges for instance in the Family Court but really in any court, who are proven incompetents as evidenced by their rulings and actions, should be allowed to be publicly critiqued by anyone without fear of litigation and with the usual laws of defamation applying to protect them, but with only those laws and no other conventions being applicable, just like the rest of us get.

        Let’s start with a basic question. Do you think that a judge, once appointed, should have security of tenure until a mandatory retirement age – unless a specified removal ground occurs earlier? When we use language like incompetent, the question of whether a judge is doing a good job or not becomes subjective.
        
        Look at this article for example:
        
        The state’s highest court has rebuked a Sydney judge for reading aloud an epic 17-hour judgment over four days, costing taxpayers and the parties thousands of dollars in court and legal fees.
        …
        Judge Neilson was referred to the Judicial Commission in 2014 after he said that, like homosexuality, the community may no longer see sexual contact between siblings, as well as between adults and children, as “unnatural” or “taboo”. The commission found in 2015 that it was no longer appropriate for Judge Neilson to hear cases involving sex crimes.
        
        So 2 issues there. First, the decision to read out a judgement, wasting court and community resources. Second, expressing a non-PC view, and being removed from hearing sex crime cases as a result. But he’s still there as a judge, presumably.

        BTW I doubt the video had any cartoons in it and no hand-puppets popping up to explain what was going on, so it’s really no wonder stephie didn’t watch it, it’s probably quite a good thing. Imagine if he got the wrong end of yet another stick. Imagine how much more annoying that would be for the poor bastards stuck on GD, day after very long day…

        I haven’t thought deeply about the specifics but my immediate off the cuff response is: I quite like the US approach of electing judges but I don’t like the fact this means they are beholden to seek funding for re-election. So if we could do the former without the latter issue I’d be in favour of that.
        
        I see no basic reason why judges are so exceedingly wise they deserve a life at the teat just like university professors and I also see the current appointment system as extremely nepotistic. I think the problems arising from those two elements of the current system generates degradation through complacency through the former and generates appointments based on whose the best sychophant rather than whose the best period through the latter.
        
        I’m not convinced elections are necessarily the best way to defeat those twin evils provided as I say we dealt with the funding issue, but they are one way.
        
        In terms of the judge in your example being disqualified from hearing sex cases on those grounds my instinct says the commission was the one in error, not the judge.
