Auckland Council reassures residents, gives lead to other councils

Residents were informed today that water that swamped their properties is not real.

Professors All_Red_Herrings and Waggy WaffleLeaf, self-anointed experts on climate change, said the hundreds of cubic kilometres of ice on Greenland and Antarctica is melting into imaginary water. “It’s purely in the minds of scientists,” they reported on Kiwiblog.

“Denial is the best way to avoid reality,” they continued, “The Royal Society, National Academy of Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Physical Society, American Chemical Society … none of these has the right to endorse the science from 60,000 scientists publishing papers on man-made climate change.”

“Fortunately the Brothers Koch and other billionaires in the fossil fuel industry are financing useful idiots to counter this appalling lapse in judgement, the absolute abandonment of the scientific method.”

Pollster David Farrar added, “It’s imperative we get National back into power. Conservatives understand if we stop funding the science the problem will go away.”

      I was in the hometown recently…I must say it was pretty depressing walking around the very run down Kaiti Mall – I remember when it opened – and comparing it to downtown, which is as vibrant as I have seen it.

        I remember stopping at the Kaiti Mall on the way to our motel. I decided to stay in the car while my wife shopped because of the types hanging around the shops. The last time I was in Gisborne was about 10 years ago and the change to now is not nice.

  Just for the sake of a discussion, let us suppose those IPCC people are correct and the sea levels are now 2cm deeper due to climate change.
  
  The water in Kohimaramara was about 30-40cm deep. Of that 2cm was caused by climate change and the other 28-38 cm was caused by something else.
  
  Perhaps we should be a little bit more worried about the “something else”.

    Although I agree with you, I think you’re pissing against the wind in giving any credence to ‘scientific data’.
    
    Its totally impossible to say anything about king tides etc using scientific data – just like it’s idiotic to talk about sea levels in the 10-20cms range.
    
    Any organisation that claims to have such ‘data’ is simply lying in order up scoop up government or UN money.
    
    People who fall for this pseudo science and use it to argue against the new religion are never going to win because there are so many baseless and competing ‘scientific’ claims being made on figures which are either invented or projected on the basis of false data.

      The best example of the changing world – that is the youngish geological world of NZ – is to be found at the Castlepoint lighthouse, Wairarapa. Those hundreds if thousands of sea shells embedded, but not fossilised, in the mini mountain high above the present day sea level, are all part of the climate evolution. There were no “research” troughers sucking on the tax payer tit. There were no WoOs, thank the Lord. There was simply the knowledge that the whole CE business is written in the rocks. But of course WoO and his like are quite unable to recognise that CE (climate evolution) has been around since the dawn.

        Only those baptised in the global warming cult are allowed a voice. The scientific method where a hypothesis is challenged is not allowed. There is a great fear the truth will be revealed. Galileo faced similar thinking. Although I have studied palaeoclimatology I at this point have an issue with both sides of the debate. Co2 saturation debate is still not resolved, nor is the lag of Co2 and temperature trends.

(It always amazes me that record hot times are evidence of global warming, and that record cold times are evidence of… global warming. ) I have not looked at the sun spot stuff for ages but I would think these record storms, the changes in the Rossby waves and the solar activity are related.     There is a difference. There is GLOBAL warming, in fact whilst the US East is cold, the world is 0.6C warmer than a quarter century ago (see here for today: http://cci-reanalyzer.org/wx/DailySummary/#t2anom).
    
    As a result of the global warming, local weather can (and does on a more regular basis) vary from what is normally expected in a variety of different ways. And that matters as we have set up our cities and countries based on the historical weather patterns.

      It’s totally ridiculous to say that the world (as a whole) is 0.6° warmer than it was 25 years ago. How on earth would you be able to measure that? This is a stunning example of the fake science that I was writing about up thread.
      
      This kind of claim is just ludicrous because of all the measuring equipment being influenced by air-conditioning, car parks, gnats farting etc.

        My goodness, even by denier standards this is absolute drivel. How do scientists measure the average temperature? How about going to the relevant sites (GISS, NASA, NOAA etc) and reading the literature they they have in abundance.
        
        You clearly haven’t bothered with reading the comments on here as it’s been clearly pointed out that GISS removes any urban heating effects to avoid tainting the trend.
        
        Don’t worry, you have at least a good quarter of an hour before the cricket resumes. Plenty of time to start collecting some reading on the subject for later tonight.

      Nobody disagrees that the world is considerably warmer than the end of he last ice age 12,000 years ago. Or slightly warmer than the mid 19th century when the Mini Ice Age finished. Or marginally warmer than the 1970s which saw a cooling of the climate over several decades.
      
      This is why the alarmists cherry pick dates to compare temperature records. They certainly dont go back further that the mid 19th century, but prefer to start at the end of the 1940-1970 cooling period.
      As temperatures go up and down it is becoming harder to attribute the cause to the CO2 level in the atmosphere as the linear increase does not correlate with the irregular temperatures.
      
      Without the CO2 causation there is no way to make money from selling promises to change the weather. And money is what the whole scam is about.

    Digmen1, there is definitely a genetic component that is passed on with some sociopaths and psychopaths. Scott Watson is a good example. However, it is only a component. Say a woman had child and the father was a psychopath who she left and found a good partner. That could mean the evil gene would not be activated.

I almost forgot about this one, so I’ve had a theory for a while the Labour creates laws not for the entire population but for people who don’t vote for them, because they know that they are the only people who will actually follow them, certainly not their constituents. Now this is obviously not a new idea, to state the obvious. But just before Christmas, I traveled over to Eastgate mall (because they had a Paper Plus) which is true Labour country and there was these signs, “No Smoking Within 50 metres of this sign.” Including right next to the sliding entrance doors, and you guessed it, wherever there was one of these signs there was 3-4 of the scumiest people you would ever see smoking next to them, the Mall car park was packed, with what looked like the Nek Minute guy’s grandfather puffing away right in front of the entrance. The Welfare-state has created a loser underclass that is far, far larger than what anyone could imagine and with these people manners are as extinct as the dodo.

I see an interesting little piece of information – ALL of the memo’s that Comey wrote regarding his meetings with Trump were confidential when written – this fact admitted by the current acting chief FOI officer at the FBI David Hardy, and in a sworn deposition. And Comey has admitted under oath that he leaked at least 3 of them to a “friend” in order to undermine Trump.

That’s a federal criminal offence, perhaps at least one of the Clinton cronies will finish up doing significant time in prison. A charge of treason could also possibly be brought against him, and that’s 20 + years…

    Once the FBI learned the identities of the two brothers, the FBI reviewed its records and determined that in early 2011, a foreign government asked the FBI for information about Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The request stated that it was based on information that he was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer, and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups.
    In response to this 2011 request, the FBI checked U.S. government databases and other information to look for such things as derogatory telephone communications, possible use of online sites associated with the promotion of radical activity, associations with other persons of interest, travel history and plans, and education history. The FBI also interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev and family members. The FBI did not find any terrorism activity, domestic or foreign, and those results were provided to the foreign government in the summer of 2011. Anyway, during the clip they cut to what I assume is the current team and I was shocked to see that this lot of U19 players look like they are going to perform a fucking rain dance before each game.

  It is extraordinary how many people think it is appropriate to have large old trees in urban environments.
  I like large old trees and have a few on my property, but I spent the first few months here chopping down (or overseeing the removal) of some that were too close to buildings, fences, brickwork, powerlines and the driveway.
  
  The previous owner planted pohutukawa slap bang along the back fence and put in 2 liquidambar saplings alongside the drive. The pohutukawa were first to go; the liquidambars look lovely, but their growth rate here is astonishing. They’ll be coming down this winter.

Similar concerns were expressed about the identification of trees prone to fall over due to deteriorating condition. As I recall the cost of adequately inspecting every tree on public land would be astronomical and that would go down really well with the taxpayers, ratepayers, if taxes or rates went up . . . . . .

Does our PM Select need to make a PM visit to support the local disaster at the village of Kaiawa on the Firth of Thames, as the whole village flooded yesterday by the storm surge? It looks to be a bit of a mess. The Thames Highway has been eaten away by the storm as well and will take weeks before it is open again.

Is Cindy still on holiday? I expect so as extended holiday time was acceptable when in opposition.
